I would love a game that allows players to post quests on a quest board, weather it be for crafters needing Matt's or roleplayers needing a hand with some task, hiring bodyguards for caravans etc. Rewards could be players gold and xp. Would br amazing to put a bounty on someone 😂

It was already announced how the bounty system worked, there is already going to be open pvp and breaking the law disadvantaged players and incentivised bounty. It would not just be any random player getting a bounty, you have to do something bad to get one. Gold buying can def be a problem but that's something every mmo struggles with

might not be able to physically post a quest but you can advertise. If they added a player "quest" board where you could hire a party to gather materials, guard a caravan ect that would be icing on the cake gameplay wise

At around 7:30 you start talking about the necessity of higher tier mobs being scary. This is something that is an existential crisis in many mmos, and the ones that do it right have got the grinding mobs gameplay loop to a T. Thats what makes grinding fun, fighting something that isn’t just a sweep fest

I like the idea of multiple lists: a small jobs list when starting out in town (talk to this guy, take this thing to that person, etc), including simple fetch quests, also good for gaining faction rep a hunting log (kill 20 rats, kill 10 wolves) only dropping pelts, meat, etc. that you need to sell to make money (or use the meat to start cooking with) materials request tickets for crafting materials(cloth, wood, stone, and so on), alchemy herbs, etc. bounty notices for elite / named creatures, giving larger rewards and fame writs of death for assassinations of NPC's or maybe even other players story quests and epic quests, with large, unique rewards raid advertisements to form groups for raids

What makes quests in AoC interesting is that the Node is watching you. Everything you do in a node has an effect on the world around you.

They probably won't do this in AoC, But if there is ONE thing they bring from L2 its starting as a blank race. No class choosing before ingame. Bring it back! I loved class quests. Go to your spiritual area as a mage and become a healer. Fighter goes to the military camp, dagger goes to the underground and finds criminal activity. Create your character as you play..

It's very exciting. With the massive number of variables in this game, they can make quests into some very personal and immersive journeys. Quest could interact with your race, class, religion, node type, node level, node reputation, the season, the time of day, etc, and also player choice. Should be sweet.

Call me old. But I still like the classic WoW quest system telling you about an area it's lore and what is going on. Imo the whole Elwynn Forest/Westfall Defias questline is peak storytelling design. It starts slow in Northshire and seems kinda irrelevant, but then you slowly realise that it is something bigger and that most quests of those zones kinda tie into it. And then later you realise that it was all just a small part of Onyxias plot. It's something you will remember even 15 years after you've done it. Really hope AoC will have something similar.

I'm wondering if Steven and the team have talked about how questing works when you're not a member of a node you are questing nearby. Will your quests still contribute to the leveling of that node or will they have no effect? Do you have to be a citizen of a node to acquire certain quests?

The only thing i liked about A1 was the fact that the quests felt very runescape like. Huuuge quest chains that took like 2-6 hours to complete and rewards that changed how you played and what content you could access. Like a fire resist amulet that allowed you to stay in the vicinity of the elder dragon for me than just 20 seconds.

i think the main thing that modern mmos get wrong especially retail wow is the quests are good and fine but you level up so fast that it doesnt feel impactful, i think classic wow does this well because the game is leveling and not trying to get to max level to actually start the game

Osrs definitely has the questing down just right. As a kid, I hated it because I thought they were too hard. Then I tried other mmos... and they're basically all the same. Go kill x mobs or gather x items. Rs will always be the standard for my questing experience

Can anyone explain the node system to me. Here's my question. Let's say I'm a bit of a loner and want to find a place to call home. Can I travel from node to node to see that community. Or would I have to join that guild to be apart of that node. I'm still confused on how citizenship works in regards to nodes and guilds.

guilds don’t own nodes. node citizenship takes priority over all. you can purchase housing to become a citizen in any node, regardless of what guild you’re in, or if you even have a guild.

You can only be a citizen of one node at a time, and all characters on your account will also be locked into that node. But you can change citizenship as you move through the world and a new node might pop up that you like the area of or the players that contributed the most might be of a different race so the node will have a different feel because of the buildings and assets will be that of the race that built the node.

I don't know why, but I keep thinking aback to DAoC and I am hoping it has the same vibes as that. Might sound weird, but I am hoping it is rather sandbox with a strong realm style pvp element and sieges and better crafting. I am all for few, longer, more impactful quests and grinding the rest of the time. That is way more exciting to me than kill 10 beavers with a pole :()

Runescape style quest 🤤 I have real good feelings about this game. I will not dare get my hopes up because I can't handle any more disappointment in new games 😢 I'm on the Verge of giving up on gaming. Will be a sad day when it comes.

Honestly rift was close to making world bosses what they needed to be. They were deadly, they had armies that would spread and take over the areas. But they used the same 3ish abilities and were often boring to fight. Gw2 world bosses pose no threat. They despawn a while after being alive and really have no downside to failing to kill them. Theyre often so easy i can text while the zergball and I take em down with auto attack These bosses need to have a trigger on loop that spawn’s armies that have an impact on surrounding areas until they are stopped. They should scale with numbers and offer unforgiving nail Biting fights that really feels like you are retaking your lands. If 100 players show up scale that mf up to 100 players worth of challenge. Not saying the hp bar needs to go up 100 fold but damage and unique aoe abilities suited to handle zergballing

There is one thing that really kills any interest I may have in a game, and I hope this game will not have ... "Daily Quests"! I played WoW when it came out, and the first two expansion packs. I tried to get back into it years later, but then I discovered that they had implemented something called "Daily Quests", repeatable quests, usually to gain faction reputation or crafting materials, BUT you could only do these quest ONCE per day. Since I was in a situation at the time that made it impossible for me to play for an hour or two every day, BUT I could play for like 10 hours straight during the weekend, it was impossible for me to progress at the same rate as most other players. So I quit playing again. I really, REALLY hate "Daily Quests"!

Aside from Runescape there's also Secret Worlds, Entropia Universe or Age of Wulin for example, which contain more sophisticated quests compared to most MMOs I wouldn't praise AoC questing until its definitive and shows good quality or innovation, as the implications about its design were still vague. Edit: Obviously the whole idea with nodes and player-driven narrative implies a more extensive mission-design, but that has yet to be proven not to just be caravans and other known stuff.

I'm not here to debate Runescape questing being top tier. I just think more people need to review the systems of Ragnarok Online during its peak. Runescape very much took questing elements from it during their reworks and RO needs more credit. You are even seeing it in Ashes with how quest effect the server. You couldn't complete certain quest in RO without conditions on server being met. All of this didn't have guides either so you had to immerse yourself in the lore for instructions.

I just want to become a shopkeeper merchant, start a merchant guild, and monopolize the gathering materials industry. If that's not possible, then I may not end up enjoying the game. Who knows, maybe I'll just go kill things, but if the mechanics are too basic then I'll just go play a game with better mechanics.

this will be one of the best mmo in terms of quests IF these story arcs will be somehow replayable (if you missed tower of carphine being destroyed you can do it again in like a week, during the week enemy forces will rebuild it or something just for replayability)

Runescape's quests are so amazing and so far above anything else in the genre, I'm amazed no game has copied it. I really hope Ashes takes a page out of the book for this. The storytelling perspective of being just another idiot who is going about their business for the quest perspective is so much better than the hero arc BS.

Most of AoC systems are straight copy from other MMOs :) it's only served as some innovative when in fact is more about they take things from non WoW-like MMOs. It's expected to take what works and iterate over it with pinch of salt

You know what I hated about, BDO and WoW, world boss rotations. no one wants a zerg party rotation around the map 24/7 ruining every single world boss encounter. Oh the days when me and a few friends could take on a world boss without 500 Chinese zergs ruining it. but you think its a good thing? argh.

I played a lot of World vs World in Guild Wars 2. I want our WvW guild to be hired to defend caravans, attack caravans, defend or destroy nodes, defend pve groups or interrupt their boss kills etc. I would be nice if we could have quests from other players to do this, but we'll do this regardless if the game facilitates it. Our specialisation in large scale pvp should make guilds like ours a core part of the game

I think in the end a few super-sweats will control too much aspects of the game. The system is just made for sweaties abusing it. Maybe they can convince me that it won't happen.

But sweats having a lot of control will make it feel like a real fantasy world, with politics and rivalry between kingdoms and guilds. Player agency is not a thing in most mmos. Having very strong large guilds be the only viable way to control the keeps(castles) and set taxes to nearby nodes is awesome. It will create the need for large organisations of players that everyone can be a part of, from casuals, crafters, pvpers, but only the sweatiest will be in control of it. Same for the nodes, only the sweatiest will be the mayor's of nodes and have that control to be able to tax people, but if they get too greedy, a revolt can happen, the citizens of the node can leave and join the neibouring node and set out for revenge on the bad mayor. Its gonna make the game fun for everyone, but only the people dedicating serious time are gonna have the control, but that still leaves so much room for fun content. Most people wouldn't want that level of responsibility and time investment, and they shouldn't have control if they aren't willing to put in the time and effort.

Being able to hire other players to clear quest objectives for you could also be interesting. Take on the role of a ''fixer'' Could be a good way to get rich max level players contributing to leveling a nearby low level node.

Sounds awesome on paper, but will hinge greatly on how they handle pvp. It could just be a gankfest. Why go spend time gathering mats if you can just gank some other guy that did it for you?

Because you will only get 20% of their materials, and you will then be corrupted, so someone can look at you and kill you for no repercussions. And if you kill several players, someone can bounty your head and everyone in the node will see you on the map and you can be killed for full loot, everything you have including weapons and gear. Ganking will 100% be a thing, but not a gankfest.
