Everything seemed fine in my oscillator experiments. But recently I acquired a cheap oscillator and probing the board showed obvious failures in the design.

square wave test is a godsend very very telling really a good reason to buy a function generator and a scope I am thinking seriously about it

What does that wave mean?.. sorry im starting at this..

He expects a square wave ideally, with real life he expects a small rising and falling curveoff, but instead gets a sawtooth in the result

analog vs digital?

It measures voltage waves over time displaying with signals So in general you get to know: Time and voltage values of a signal Frequency of an oscillating signal The moving parts of a circuit represented by the signal Frequency with which a particular portion of the signal is occurring relative to other portions Whether or not a malfunctioning component is distorting the signal How much of a signal is direct current DC or alternating current AC The portion of the signal that is noise Whether noise is changing over time So in this example he measures the voltage dc the expectation would be a squared graph signals from 0V to 5V but graph shows a curved graph and not an 0 to 5 rise there are a lot of reasons to use that, those are usually two channels measuring the rise and frequency of the voltage that way you will be able to examine what to expect and if that meets the expectation you have, i am not the best on explaining those things I hope I helped a little😂

ok, well, it's a little hard to tell without him showing us everything, but i would say that he's measuring the charge and discharge time of the capacitors of.. the switching time of those transistors in the square wave he is expecting to see an INSTANT increase in voltage then it holds for a period of time then INSTANT off in reality what happens is... there is a ramp up a slow (and not instant) charge up time and then an instant discharge

could be a poorly tuned oscope too..

What is lowest cost scope (without building it from scratch) that has FFT? And are 2 channels necessary for MCU based electronics and robotics?
@FredyMentoska10 ай бұрын
I bought one from Amazon for $20 and it's quite enough if you don't use the oscilloscope daily

What scope and does it have FFT?@@FredyMentoska

Just go for a rigol DS1054z anything below that is just not worth it. maybe hantek if you really want to cheap out, but it's not much lower if you go under $200 you're just buying shit , why would you bother so get the 1054Z and be done with it. You'll buy it once and never think about it again see you need a basic scope because your question was basic you don't understand FFT enough to ask what you need correctly, therefore , Basic FFT math function will be fine for you Until you understand the finer points and resolution and say Hanning vs Hamming . for now you will be fine with an entry scope
