At times it does be very hard to hit the clients i need, as doing this full time now as a ceator , i have to other skill to pull other clients , and in my little island there is so many photographers and videographers, at the ending of the day you will pull the specific clients in regards to your work and what they like about your style. But the cake is big enough for everyone, but i always pushing my self every day, and to be in someone else country to even push my self more.

I’ve moved to a new area during covid and getting a large client base is taking a long time. I’ve gone to local wedding fairs also but I wish I could accelerate the process!

I've been taking photos since around 2018 and still can't get any clients at all. I moved away from London during covid as I was having extreme living difficulties there. For the past couple of years I have been struggling with substances too and this was basically my main concern shall we say. Now its 2023 and I STILL struggle to find anyone who wants to return DM's and emails, let alone anything paid. So muggins here is working in transport with a BA (hons) and HND in photography and film production and still doing TFP stuff all the time. Moths in the mailbox springs to mind

i am going to be honest, i think your work in creativity is off the charts. I have more equipment than anyone photographer should need to do any job... This is my 3rd and last career. I am a former police officer and Army veteran , totaling 20 plus years. I have tried to just go out and take photos but i always seem to lose the motivation. Coming across your channel, not only did I see how beautiful you are and the passion you have for the camera, it just worked for me... I thought about traveling to other countries to find the motivation, but its like the old saying... If you don't bring love with you to an island your not going to find it on the island... The love for photographer has to be in us to be great at it. I have it, just need the push toward what my style will be. Thank you for sharing your work with the world.

Another fulfilling video “hanging out” with you, Laura! 🎉 Honestly, I’ve spent SO much time on KZfaq looking into this niche and that niche. It’s been rather ridiculous. I’ve finally decided on real estate photography to start with; designing my website and finally using your advice on starting out offering to do free/low-fee work to build a portfolio. It’s intense, exciting, and a ton of other emotions all at once! 🙃 Even though it’s a completely different niche than yours, I still get TONS of value from your channel. THANK YOU!!! ❤❤❤

Good Morning or Evening Ma'am ! I happened to see your video titled "This New Approach", so I casually clicked on it. I was very happy to hear someone talk about, stating, that we don't need the newest camera, lens, etc to be a photographer. They way you explained things was very refreshing, and a wonderful reminder to myself, to NOT get caught up in the material world of photography. I sometimes get caught up with needing the nicest lens, new body, etc, in order to be a good/decent photographer. We are enamored with those types of videos here on KZfaq, and it surely can derail our direction. Over the last 7 years, I have managed to buy a few great lenses, and studio lights, trying to build my way up the ladder. What has happened is this. I found my place as a natural light photographer, and I have NEVER touched my studio lights since I bought then. L0L My niche, opened the door to be an Indoor/Outdoor Nude, Natural Light Photographer; with a love for BnW photography. I am also a word by mouth photographer. This definitely has its problems, because Covid took everything away, and I still feel the pains of the pandemic. For the first time, I'm having to consider building a portfolio, and have a professional site, like Square Space. It hurts, know I now have to go this rout now. I never advertised, and never kept photos, so it's starting over from scratch. Your video, and now this one, is a sweet reminder, and a boost of confidence, reminding me of other ways to go about life as a photographer; so I just want to say Thank You for your videos! :) PS: I loved hearing you say,, that we don't need the most expensive camera to get started. For the last 7 years, I have been using the Canon SL1, I'm on my 2nd one. I will be bringing a 7D home soon, and I'm very excited for it. :) having a family, raising kiddoes, is my priority, so maybe some day a new body can happen. 😊 Air Hugs From The States, Iowa 😊 Subscribed 😁

Thank you! I’m glad you like the video and the experiences I talked about here. I totally get you as I’ve been there myself too. 🤦🏻‍♀️ My advice is to get better and better and raise your fees. Just when I started to respect my fees without fear or losing the booking, it’s when I finally made it. I know is hard to make the decision though. It’s scary to miss work but sometimes necessary. 🙏🏼

I have a website but still struggle. Everyone wants stuff for nearly next to nothing. I finally signed up for 1:1 business coaching (it's not cheap but thought it's the final thing I'll do) to see if this hopefully makes a difference. I see photos from 'pro' photographers and wonder how they continue to get clients and get paid. Their photos are very mediocre. I guess I just suck at business and marketing.

It takes time… I know. I was working full time at another job and it was super tiring to have to find clients and redact emails… 🤦🏻‍♀️ But it’s necessary to take off and start getting paid. With time, everything becomes smoother. 🙏🏼

We’ve been all there. Trust me… 🤦🏻‍♀️ You will have to be tough and respect your fees, even if sometimes you lose the gig. I know it sounds painful but trust me, when I started doing that, clients actually started to respect my work. 🙏🏼

It happens a lot at the beginning. I was terrified too. But if you have a portfolio, you have to think that the client booked you having an idea of the quality you can offer. If they like your website and photos, most likely, you will deliver similar quality or even better. ❤️ Keep it up! :)

One other mistake: be one man/ woman show , to do everything. Sometimes it's better to pay a profesionist to build yours site , or a secretary to keep eventing flowing. Thx for everything btw.

Hi Laura ,In my area it is saturated with "photographers" and so may people are looking for TFP and it's Insta Insta Insta should I just focus on my website and forget Instagram because it is so saturated I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to balance website vs Instagram. Any advice

Hi Michael! Definitely focus on stepping up and that website. To stand out from the crowd, you have to look more professional than the others. Do TFP just to get a good portfolio and then start getting paid. 🙏🏼❤️

@@LauraBC Hi Laura, It's hard not to get discouraged, I really like portrait style photography more on the lifestyle and fashion side, in my area it's saturated with photographers and models that want OF style photos and I put postings up and get a bunch of responses with folks interested and I invest time in answering questions, scouting locations only for them to end up ghosting, I have good references, decent photos I like shooting outdoors more in nature or urban areas and our local models want to dictate where and when we shoot otherwise they forget you. I follow you and really like your perspective and advice. It just feels so unattainable.
