What distinguishes the Dominican Republic is the variety of environments, as a miniature continent on a single island.. There are not only the typical Caribbean beaches with golden sand, calm turquoise water, coconut trees, jungle and mangroves. There are also beaches of white, black sand or pebble, with big waves and high cliffs. There are several mountain ranges. Some of them go spectacularly into the sea. The Central one has the highest peaks in the Caribbean, cold valleys and rain forests. This is an island with abundant water, rivers with rapids and waterfalls, and other calm ones that reach the sea through green plains. There are several navigable inland lakes, including the largest in the Caribbean, more than 44 meters below sea level, with a central island that is home to crocodiles. However, DR also has very dry desert areas with only cacti and dunes. You really have to come back if you want to know everything!

***🌴🌴--"Quisqueya "--Means ,mother of all lands in the Taino language -Island at the center of the world .!! --ironacly people keep referencing how similar it looks to the Pacific isles, geologically speaking the Cocos plate is twice as old than the Pacific .Quisqueya is a cretaceous Island @ 70-80 million years ,all other islands were submerged including the ring of fire in the Pacific . !!!🌴🌴--fun facts .--thanks Carol&Chris .🌺🌊

This is noticeable when you find sea shells and fossil coral high in the mountains, or gigantic stones of black volcanic lava at the edge of the sea.

@@gamsts its true, no pretentions in taking expensive accomodations and luxury restaurants. Their experience speaks more for travelers that can afford not too expensive nor too cheap. They’re humble and just stay within themselves

Cayo Levantado has to be one of the nicest beaches in the Caribbean, I took the tour from Samana straight to Levantado Island and Hachee the tour guide was the best! I went in February when the Whales 🐳 migrated to Samana to mate, the sight of those massive creatures was awesome!

Samaná is a natural treasure with coves, bays, waterfalls, mountains and awe-inspiring views. There is lots to explore and it's known for its wading and body-boarding beaches, nature trekking and whale-watching.

OMG this brought back memories. Stopped at Cayo Levantado many years ago on a cruise. Thoroughly enjoyed the day as we drank lots of coconut water and also had fish for lunch. Thanks for sharing.😎

Yes, they need to come back and explore our mountains areas as well since not so many tourists go there. If they thought Los Haitises was different than the rest of the Caribbean then they will be amazed by Jarabacoa and Constanza

A similar experience in Cuba is going from Havana to the island of Cayo Levisa. You can sleep on the island in small cabanas. The beach is actually larger than Levantado with part of it in the jungle. I went there a few years ago.

So many awesome parts to this video. Cool boat ride, love the cave, the green and partial yellow color of the palm trees, very picturesque!!! @8:18 reminds me of Cueva Ventana in Puerto Rico. @11:54 mixed in with the rice are "Gandules" known as pigeon peas. It's a popular rice dish in the Caribbean.
