Heheh, I'm not like scared of spirits as 'evil' or whatnot just for being spirits, my tradiions about em have em as more likely dangerous for being tricky and having their own set of rules than being all malicious or predatory. Japan does have some scary yokai, though. (I can't think of a particular one that comes to mind. And I could be in trouble if I met one of the ones that you might be screwed if you're nice to on the street or something. :) )

Japanese folklore has been featured as conceptual artifacts in film and anime since the 1960’s like Ge Ge Ge No Kitaro or a Letter To Momo. Spiritual practices in Japan are very interesting and they allow for kami’s to illustrate rhyme and reason for animistic adaptations of their belief systems. Thanks for going on a yokai hunt Mrs. Eats the video was enlightening.

There’s many places considered “haunted” all over Japan, and “Youkai” are a very interesting take on folkloric animism which evolved throughout the years…. That being said, if you seriously want to experience something haunting or with a heavy vibe in Japan, check out the temple of Byodoin in Uji, Kyoto. That temple contains a giant Amitabha Buddha statue with a really creepy and ominous aura to it.

I thought that it was related to a town where rich and powerful Japanese elites went to make deals directly with demons and Satanists groups...also a town that is really not Japan where no one is allowed to go in and out. That's not Japan anymore and once you enter it's a totally isolated community in the middle of nowhere and it inspired some video games...
