This isn't unusual for Epic, though. I'm an older gamer and remember Unreal Tournament 2004 releasing with the dev tools on the disc. People were creating full conversion mods for that game. A lot of them were really fun. Some even released as standalone titles later on. I remember dragging my rig and monitor over to my friends apartment with a few other friends and just playing UT2004 mods all weekend. Epic understands that supporting the mod community can keep their game relevant for years because they've done it before.

It's cool but all the creations I played so far just "feel" like Fortnite. Basically all these creations are using the Fortnite framework (obviously) but it kind of limits the fun for me. Not a fan of how the movement/shooting feels in it. It's still awesome to see though, just limited in that respect.

Fortnite's graphic from this season and the last season is miles, miles ahead of what anyone thinks of from "Fortnite" 4+ years ago or whatever. It's not a cartoon game, it's just in cartoon style. The graphics at max are actually amazing. And in DX-12 with Lumen and full max settings, it's mindblowing.

Unreal engine is a massively powerful tool for game development. Narrowing the focus of that tool a bit and allowing designers to easily create content for their most profitable game ever can only bring more profits, AND serve to bring more gamers and enthusiasts into their game design ecosystem. And with how many young people are obsessed with Fortnite that never would have touched unreal otherwise, this is their perfect gateway drug.

To think you can create just about any world that you can imagine in your mind, and the tools are for more user friendly in the current version then previous versions.
