I get the movie try to show us the job is the "evil" one but that bit just doesn't sit right to me ;-;

I get her boyfriend was mad over her working on his bday but he was toxic Af. He didn't support her working where she was, her friends were assholes when her phone rang at dinner and kept throwing the phone around which could have caused her the job. Her boyfriend didn't say shit either and kept throwing a hissy fit because she was still working at runway. She was growing and he acted like it bothered him. There's so much he did to feel "bad" for him when he was pretty much trying to control her. Where she works, when she works, what she wears, etc... Toxic! Lol

I think that Nate and her friends' mindset was that Andrea didn't actually wanted to be a runway girl at first, she didn't care about fashion and the magazine's values so when she starts to change her essence for a job they find that behaviour incoherent. I don't think they were entirely toxic, they were just concerned about her and what her work environment was doing to her personal life.
@janetuss6496
@janetuss6496 Жыл бұрын
It's not just a matter of her career choice. It's the fact that her career choice was starting to change her values and who she fundamentally was. If you liked your partner cause they had certain traits, but their career started to change those traits, you'd be upset too. If Nate liked her cause she didn't care about fashion or looks, but slowly she started to become the complete opposite of that, then yeah, it's understandable that he'd be upset or concerned. If Nate liked her cause she's not the type of person to backstab people or step on people to climb to the top, but she started to go in that direction cause of her industry, of course he'd be upset. She was changing for the worse the longer she was in that industry, which is why she ultimately decided to drop out of it. She didn't want to become like Miranda. If you don't have enough self-awareness, you won't even realize you've started to change for the worse. Nate could have done a better job with dealing with the issue and communicating, but him being upset was understandable.

Emily is her actual name. But why would Miranda distinguish Andy from Emily after that job interview? Andy didnt even try to pretend to want to work there. Word of advice to young folk; when you interview for a job; you do not have the upper hand. Andy's job interview was terrible. She was ill prepared and didn't do her research. Miranda might have been aloof but honestly, I would not hire someone like Andy after that poor interview.

Its always interesting to watch reactions to this movie bc only women, queer people, and maybe SOME guys get how the boyfriend isn’t really a good one. The birthday she missed? Yeah it sucks but it gave her the opportunity to meet people in her field that isn’t an every day thing. It was huge. Instead of understanding they make her feel guilty for taking that. They mock her job, and rarely ask her about it or respect it tbh. I feel like mostly women and queer people notice these things as many have been in that position (undermined in what they do). If a guy is apologetic to his gf and says to her he missed a party due to a huge work opportunity they wouldn’t be villainized as much

I'm queer and I find the "Nate-hate" super immature. He was actually the most patient and understanding. that's so great about the movie. You really see everything through Andy's eyes and you root for her. But from a distance there are quite a few moments where she's being immature. a more mature version of Andy would look back and say; we were all growing up but I might have gone easier on Nate; he was not the issue.

All the boyfriend had to do was stick it out for a year. This was always going to be a temporary thing. He knows she has to get through this job and it's going to be crazy hours and demands but that at the other end, it's going to open so many doors for her. Yet he's somehow treating it like she suddenly doesn't love him anymore. So she missed your birthday because of unforeseen circumstances. You still had a good time with your mates and you have a birthday every year. Celebrate it again on a day next week when she's home. If my boyfriend came to me and said look, it's going to be shit for a little while but it's going to allow me to follow my dreams, I'd be like hell yeah, we'll make the best of it. You bring me that cupcake at midnight and I'll eat it while you tell me about how insane your work event was and we'll watch TV.

Aye guys, I loved this film since seeing it for the first time. Having said that, I did have a problem with the male/female portrayal...This job was a great gateway to working as a writer. The networking is invaluable. There will be other birthdays, but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Her boyfriend & friends should’ve given her more support. Her friends had no problem accepting swag & a bag, equaling a car payment, at all, yet they were so condescending about her job. If the script was flipped, we would expect Andi to support her man. Woman always move for the man... I resented how she was treated by her so-called circle. She left when she reached her limit & not before &, what she learned had nothing to do with fashion, but she’d carry for the rest of her life. Great film! 🖤🌹🖤🧛🏻‍♀️

@@TheAshMcG if she was born a man it wouldn’t be different. It just shows that the fashion business is tough and only tough people can run it. Andy's boyfriend is Adrian Grenier ( From Entourage) , Christian is played by Simon Baker ( Who was in a show called The Mentalist) and the character that Meryl plays is a parody take on Anna Wintour who has run Vogue mag. For years and also the Met Gala (Anna has a rep for being a total bitch) the whole movie was a parody on the fashion world and how vapid it is.

He already knew that Miranda was deemed 'too expensive' by Irv and that James Holt was looking for a partner. What I got from this movie is that, Miranda is all about loyalty. Emily is too chaotic to be an efficient assistant. But she's loyal to the bone. Which is why Miranda kept hiring second assistants. Andy is not personal assistant material but she had a drive to succeed and despite everything; she stayed loyal. Miranda pays people back in loyalty. It's nothing personal; it's business.

I think Andy got Miranda's respect because 1) She stuck it out long past many of the other girls and 2) She left on her own terms instead of quitting out of frustration or being fired. Andy made a choice to leave because she didn't want to be like Miranda... the fact that Miranda seems to acknowledge this AND respect her for it, shows that deep down Miranda knows she's a monster. But she probably also feels like she has to be that way, as a woman in that position. However flawed that thinking is, that's her life and who she is. Fun fact - when preparing for this role Meryl Streep chose to talk in a soft voice rather than yell... because she wanted to be soft and feminine but still intimidating. The kind of villain that could simply cut you with her eyes while saying nothing. I think she achieved this.

LOVE AND LIVE for this movie ❤👠 “That’s all.” Meryl Streep/Miranda Priestly = 👑 Never find Emily a mean girl/bi*ch she’s just a stress out of her job. The real villains and whiners are Andy’s friends and Christian.

Actually, Andie does become like Miranda. She learned to work hard and achieve goals. She came to dress the part in a place where that was critical. Even when she gets out of the car and walks away, she does it on her own terms. After Miranda sees Andie towards the end, she smiles because she sees that Andie has grown into her own person and pursued her life and career her own way. Also, Meryl is funny at times. "Take a chance. Hire the smart fat girl."

The only issue I have with this movie is how unapologetic it is about the boyfriend. He gets to be shitty with no consequences and Andy ends up being portrayed as the sole bad apple in that relationship.

The amount of satire in this film is wonderful, honestly one of my absolute favourites. Meryl is an absolute icon in every sense of the word, to me this film always felt like a classy dig at the very real ongoings within the fashion industry. The cast was awesome too, it was also a neat touch that Gisele Bundchen one the highest paid supermodels of all time, was included (Serena- woman wearing glasses at the front desk with Emily Blunt) as a gossiping Runway bitch.

To be honest I do not think the boyfriend was evil in any way. There are some people that value their social relationship more than their job and viceversa, and when those values get into conflict in a relationship, it makes it unstable and the partners lose trust in each other, so it usually leads to break up. Exactly thae disbalance of personal life and job life is a very common reasons for divorce. Not only that, but In the movie the job was not shown as Andy wanting to climb up the ladder of her carreer or doing something she was wholeheartedly interested in, it was shown as a highly exploitative, in-humane, double-crossing and corrosive work environment that ultimately took over her personal life in exchange of one or other connection to what she really wanted her carreer to be. If the movie dared to claim at the end that such an environment was acceptable all along and the boyfriend, friends and Andy herself doubting it and retracting from it were due to close-mindness or cowardice, the message of the movie would be VERY different, or better said, it would not be The Devil Wears Prada. The closest thing to a villain in this movie was the Fashion Industry itself personified in Miranda as an active perpetrator of its negative traits, she IS the Devil after all.
