A couple of things that may help you through this game. The way to progress is to get max respect on almost, if not all of the series from Crew Meets, I suggest you try to hit the max amount of respect points. You need to get 250 respect points per race from doing power-overs, drifts, air-time, near-misses and the other 750 per race, you get from winning it. You should somewhat focus on maxing out the events as there aren't that many Crew Meets and series so you basically have to max out almost all if not all of them to reach the respect threshold (~77k IIRC) to participate in the final Crew Meet. You "hookup" with your girlfriend to unlock their videos after you win races. The car list is pretty limited as that is the car list for the entire playthrough but what is cool about it is the fact that while there aren't many models, there are quite a few different specs, take the Skyline for example, you have different V-Specs and also the M-Spec Nur. The locked cars will unlock as you progress through the game. Performance upgrades are somewhat different to other games. You need to pick specific parts to make your car as good as possible. Every brand offers their own unique parts but some of them offer the same parts as other brands, that's why you have to look at what you are putting on your car. You refill your nitrous just the way you prefer it, by buying another bottle. That's a reason you should be conservative with the usage. Being about a decade older than Theo I remember this one clearly. A really solid street racing game that decided to graft some Spike TV/ The Man Show/ Import tuner mag weirdness. Visually i think it holds up a bit better than UG2. Ablast watching the reaction play through.

I would love to watch a full series of this man,apart from the girlfriend mechanic if you can even call that and their videos and whatever everything else the game has to offer is actually rlly good imo and the girlfriend BS is not even necessary,you can 100% ignore it and you lose literally nothing from the game. Also there are some seriously sick builds you can make in this game ngl,when it comes to costumization while more limited it kinda shat on the NFS franchise in style partly cuz it had licensed costumization but still,quality over quantity meanwhile in the NFS of this time it was all about huge quantities of absolutely godawful looking rice which killed braincells when you looked at it XD

This was the first tuner car game I played/owned and it was on GCN. I remember collecting all the import car girl dance video unlocks. Each girl was filmed go-go dancing in front of some plain background, it was so ratchet lol. Same girls on the Import Tuner magazine covers (Sasha Singleton, Tila Nguyen, Francine Dee, Natasha Yi, were top tier). I got into the scene as a teen in the late 90s right before F&F blew up which I watched opening night at the theater after I got my license and went to my first Hot Import Nights (I'm showing my age lol). what should work is free roam stunts if you have a N2O bottle, it's refilled with style/reputation points and refills by chunks it's only free roam tho and you need the nitrous upgrade and I believe the repair is only an aesthetic also there are reward cars for quick play challenges in the menu

To progress and unlock new cars you'll have to beat more (legal or not) Crew Meets. If you want to win a prize car - Arcade Mode - Iron Man Challenge in the start menu (higher difficulty - better car) OR Checkpoint challenge on Hard (other options don't offer a car as a prize). Street Challenges are just there to make more money when you need it (faster car - faster opponents = more money on the table).
