Those things are the basics for a single human being to have a minimal existence in 2022. $15 an hour doesn't even come close.

Back in primary school i would spend anywhere from 8-12 hours a day on OSRS and i kept that up pretty consistently for around 2 years. But as kids we often have a lot time that can easily be used for whatever we wish. The fact that this guy could keep this up for like a decade is insane to me, yet now as an adult i can imagine he probably had to live a very secluded life so far in order to accomplish what he did which is just kinda sad to think about.

That being said Runescape is just one of those games where addiction is actually a serious problem that can affect people all the way into their adulthood. I like the comments saying "that he should go outside and touch some grass" but honestly spending 8 years like that is at the point where he is a bit too far gone. It sounds like to me if he was to lose his Ironman he would have no hesitation to just make a new one and start again 💀

@@okidosapper common joke in RS community that you can't start the game until you've maxed all your stats (In Hyger's case and Lynx Titan's case, they were #1 on the leaderboards of one of the most time consuming games of all time, and not by short margin. Hyger actually started much later than most other Ironmen. Not exactly sure the date itself but it was over a year after the rest of the grinders already started. Anyways, once you've maxed all your stats to level 99 in RuneScape you can go for 200M exp, which is equivalent to near 20x the exp needed for 99.) Now don't get me wrong, even your average RuneScape player will never ever achieve 99 all as it takes over 2000 hours of efficient hours played, so him achieving 200m before starting the game, aka, bossing/collection log/ pet hunting etc. Is absolutely fucking ridiculous

Counterpoint: It is a waste to spend it all on Runescape, but I think that, because he already did it once, he'd have no trouble doing it again. As in, he's already comfortable with the idea of spending 12 hours per day on a single activity, something almost no one can do. If he were to apply it to anything productive now, he'd get so far. He's like a superhuman, the ability to focus on one thing for such long hours can do so much for a person. No, I'm not him, but I wish I could do that. So many of my issues would be solved if I could just dedicate myself to my goals for 12 hours per day and steadily work towards completing them.

I have played RuneScape as I takenobull for 627 days since 2006. And after that enormous time dedication I have finally concluded that this game is a game to the developers and a trap for the players. We already have a world to tend to to turn our backs to it and our minds off of it we are only serving to bring on ourselves our own doom. I think this should strongly be considered and I will be free from the trap when I commit myself to letting go of this thing I have held close to my heart.

Before we assume this guys life, it sounds crazy but I think this is fully doable with a remote job. Most remote jobs put you in a situation where you have a lot of individual free time. Playing OSRS (maybe not super efficiently) is totally possible if the job is low stress.

Hair loss, teeth falling out, skin changing, withdrawal after not having done some in a while, slaving your lifetime away to get the next injection, losing your house etc. Drugs are and will always be too hardcore. This is beyond depressing. Imagine wasting your life like this. Not just your life, your youth. Anyone with a goal like this, think twice, three times before doing it. It's a game, not a skill or a respectable achievement. You will not be the next Zezima or whatever. People in the game barely care. You don't get to turn back time. Don't go for 200m all, at least not religiously like this, it's not worth it.

Agreed. I quit games entirely. I just watch jerma985 and from that only few games interest me. Back when I played as a rule any game where you repeat the same shit for insane hours just for a lvl was a red flag, botted games are a nope, having a life being considered "xp waste" is a nope. Currency grinding like PoE, Diablo2 I was able to see endgame and quit very easily. One day I started a running habit and completely forgot about games. Running is famous for restoring addiction based behaviours, even smoking. Do recommend.

I work remote and saving close to 80% of my income every month because I "waste" all my time on something I enjoy, which is completely free. I dont go to bars on the weekend, or waste my money on stupid sht to impress people because I have no one to impress. I have no friends either, because this is the real time waste. It is not enjoyable to interact with people, unless they can benefit me in some ways. I'm 28 atm and have about 180k networth, between my 401k, hysa and other investments. And you? Keep judging how others live their lives, and enjoy your low pay job, paycheck to paycheck, plus infinite debt life. This is what "beyond depressing" truly means.
