So the change in the fire colour is caused by salts, not herbs. Just like normal table salt is Sodium-Chloride (NaCl), there are other salts that will 'burn' with different colours, eg: copper=blue, strontium=red, barium=green, calcium=orange. Maomao is guessing that the wooden sticks are being dipped into salts and dried, and then passed on, and can then be burned to reveal a secret colour code. Some salts are dangerous to touch because they combine with the sweat on our hands, which is why they were wrapped in cloth when the eunuch found them.

17:41 - Love the energy. The Jinshi and Maomao moment hit so hard as a small moment since it felt so well with the atmosphere for them to connect a bit more personally. Jinshi blushing was so cute. He got lovestruck so hard sooner than I was expecting. lol

For most people, freckles are a sign of sun damage. In a time like when this series happens, pale was beautiful because it was a sign of wealth. The poor and the peasants had to spend all day working under the sun. They got tanned and got freckles. The wealthy and high class people, however, got to spend most of the time indoors. So their skin was pale.

I agree. I have some freckles but when I get a tan they come out with vengeance. Some go away by late winter but not all. Now that I’m old they stay around and don’t look that cute at all. They make you look older, and not it’s not skin cancer. Had them checkup a while ago and skin cancer does not run in our family.

i spend the vast majority of my time inside but get freckles (and sunburn) very easily, so i am kinda in between the 2, it might also be because i have partially red hair genetically (must be a recessive gene though)

To clear a big misunderstanding: When Gyokuyou said she was jealous of Fuyou last episode, she didn’t mean that she loved someone else. The scene is much more clear in the light novel, but what Gyokuyou meant was that she envied Fuyou for being able to have her love all to herself. Gyokuyou truly loves the emperor, but she has to share him with other women (which the emperor is also politically obligated to do) when she wishes she could have him all to herself.

@@amandabernard8179 Actually Gyokuyou is about 19 at the start of the story, so their age gap is 15-16 years depending on the time of year Either way, Gyokuyou genuinely loves him and doesn't seem to mind the difference. The Emperor's taste in women is also surprisingly on the mature side, for the time period (as the light novels themselves state, in this time period it was normal for girls to start getting married and bear children at 14 or 15, and women being even just 19 were often already considered "past their prime")

I'm no vet but from the sound of it, considering that the liver function is normal, the common infectious causes seem to have been negative, the cat probably has immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (where the body's immune system destroys its own red blood cells), there are a bunch of other causes too but this would be my first guess. A Coombs test would be useful imo in this case followed by a bunch of others for a differential diagnosis and, if it's confirmed, the treatment would mostly be immunosuppressants in this case.

What I'm worried about is that they are looking for people with burns on their arms, and Maomao has burns on her left arm. They're self-inflicted, but good luck explaining that to suspicious guards.

Jinshi would probably be the one leading the investigation, so she is unlikely to be a suspect. Plus she has plenty of people that can vouch that she had the burns prior to this.

Cat- This may sound a little weird, but sometimes cats develop extreme sensitivity in their whiskers and will not eat or drink so long as their whiskers touch the sides of the bowl containing food or water. Try presenting the food on a plate to see if this might be the problem.

I hope your catto gets better soon, I'll ask a vet friend for any input. Cats typically won't eat if they're in pain or ill, it's sometimes a sign that they're suffering from a low mood because of illness (similar to what happened to my cat when he was very ill a few years ago), but please follow up with the internal medicine specialist. If his liver is improving and he's not getting worse, there's a good chance it'll resolve on its own, but you don't want to take any chances with feline pals.

Marriage is more of an Western thing. Back in the 1600 China the emperors concubines are his wife’s and many are gif for political favors. He may never even sleep with some. You should watch the move “ Raise of the Red Lantern” it’s not the emperor but a lord buts it’s basically the same thing. Very good movie.

love the reaction to the hairpin scene! XD about the shadow, if it was Gyokuyou, we would have been able to see the silhouette of her hair accessories, so i don't think it was her unless it was before she got dolled up for the party.

Go back to the scene where the concubine Lishu, the little one, is saying "Yes, Master Jinshi". I agree, it is not her, but look closely at the attendant that is on the left side, the hair could be a match and she has a bit of a scowl. Also. Gyokuyou has those gold metal pieces in her hair hanging down. They are not in the silhouette.

the fricle reveal was really surprising for me but like how the story goes into the topic for why. Jinshi getting speechless over MaoMao never gets old Next episode gonna be cool :) The hair pins will be explained more later as it functions for more reasons

Your reaction to Jinshi giving Maomao his hairpin was my exact reaction as well. 😂 I don't know if the author intends for them to end up together (weather Maomao likes it or not), but they definitely got something going on, especially because one of the reasons for a male to give a female his hairpin back then was because of a romantic interest in that woman.

I'm not entirely convinced that is Gyokuyou whose hands are shown with the burns. The lighting used in there only reveals two tones - the light (frill) part and red. In her garden party outfit, she has the frill, pink layer, orange layer and red layer. This can either be because those tones are shown as the same in the dark (to make it inconclusive on purpose), or because she is wearing a different outfit there. In either case, it may apply to someone else as well. Or not. I guess we'll see soon!

I don't believe he was ever a eunuch. Its just a rumor MaoMao heard and she just assumed he fit the bill. A eunuch manager thats only job is suppose to be wrangling around concubines wouldn't be dealing with things like food poisoning on the frontlines. I think he's a military leader or some other royalty close to the King.
