141 lbs is wide open.. I believe Matthews got 5th last year at the NCAAs.. He got the number 1 ranking by default.. but great job to the kid from Northern Colorado..💯

Not sure what's up with these PA studs going out like this. Sasso, Matthews & Murin all losing matches because they're not being offensive. Then you got Paniro being offensive & getting rewarded.

If you’re the #1 wrestler in the country, you may want to initiate a takedown during the match. He could have lost on a stalling call and would have earned it.

Take away from this match. Matthew’s has 0 offense! Woulda liked to see a little stricter on the stall warnings/calls in that regard. Possible audio delay or false start not sure which one. Aggressor got the win, exactly how it should be! Coach taught us to get after it and earn the points to win and not let refs decide the match!

The hands to the face was not on the sequence they showed or that the ref called it. It was a few seconds prior. Not that I think it should have been a point but still.

@@hms-007tbh that was probably just delayed audio. a lot of flo's videos have that issue where it looks like they jumped early but it's actually just an audio delay. delay happens later in the match when alirez seems to grunt when he's doing absolutely nothing to warrant grunting

Both are stallers. Need to engage each other and mix it up... underhooks, coller ties, etc. Reminds me of Nick Soriano who is usually a staller.

Cole would not stop fidgeting with his headgear all match once Alirez started slapping it. It was like that was all his mind was thinking about instead of actually wrestling - fuck the headgear dude, focus. Swirderski would have had that thing hanging half off his face and not thought twice about it.

I like the Swiderski reference! Him and Real will for sure both AA this postseason. Iowa State got a stud (true?) freshman and Iowa got a proven guy. Alirez is a fun one to mix in there too!

These guys had drastically different trajectories at the end of the season. Alirez won NCAAs and Matthews didn’t even place as the #3 seed.

I can't help but get Dom Demas/Luke Pletcher vibes when I watch Cole Matthews; They all have the 'manlet' body type, absolutely zero offense intended. And like Pletcher, "they" have problems with athletic, lankier types like Alirez (think Chase Saldate). But for pure heart, Matthews is a fire hydrant that never runs out of water!

Matthews is not near as active and offensive-oriented as Fletcher was, a much more exciting wrestler than Matthews, who showed no offense in this match.
