holy friggin cow, this video is honestly game changer and i'm only 3 minutes in. my soloing is just random.. this blueprint idea really makes so much sense. i haven't seen this anywhere else. thank you for this video. subscribed~!!!

This is one of the best videos you’ve made, Jared! These ideas are so important for creating continuity in your solos, and making them sound like they may have even been pre-composed! More than anything I like how it starts to shift your MIND away from thinking along the lines of “what note do I play next? What’s the right note?” and other paralyzing ways of thinking.

100% agree that phrasing is the most important element. I have been digging in to the first solo from Comfortably Numb trying to capture the feel of DG's playing and although it is several levels up from the ideas in this video the core is still there. Two simple ideas evolve around the G chord with some repetition and variation. The idea then runs over the A chord and there are some subtle rhythmic tricks to create a more interesting interplay with the other instruments. DG drags notes off the main beats so familiar notes are played in an unfamiliar way. I have seen hundreds of videos on scales and modes and arpeggios etc etc but this video should be on every guitarist must watch list.

I think an underrated aspect of this technique is that is puts parameters on your improvisation. It take a lot guessing work out of your decision of "oh what will i play here" and gives you either a rhythm pattern to follow or notes to follow.

When you were playing octaves it reminded me of stuff I’ve heard from Wes Montgomery and it makes me think that’s what he’s doing haha. Oh and I better ask your advice on this.. I just got a looper and I wanna use it to practice. Is there any cool practice ideas you could throw my way? I thought about looping a few chords and practicing arpeggio/soloing ideas. Maybe practicing 2 to the 5 chord, stuff like that.
@soundguitar
@soundguitar 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's exactly what Wes is doing! I pluck them instead of strum them but otherwise same sound. For the looper ideas, exactly what you described is the way to go! Loop 2 chords at first and try to play the chord tones over them, then try it on more chords, other keys, and other progressions.
