Agreed! They got a little closer in some of the games with pre-boss dialogue, but they should've taken it a bit further.

And this is why manuals eventually were dropped as devs could actually put the story in the game. Were they nice? Yeah, but some old games are almost impossible to play without a wiki page open on the side.

I will add that Murata was 13 years old when he designed Dust Man and the other Robot Master. Apparantly he also submitted a "Double Man" for Mega Man 3 that didn't win.

I do like how these wind robot masters aren't necessarily so nimble and instead big uns, like they can blow with great force rather than slenderer windy designs you might oftentimes see elsewhere.

Kurama and Karasu are 2 different types of Tengu. Kurama are the ones with the classical big nose mask and are some kind of mountain deity/spirits that protect or punish ppl. karasu are the ones that are humanoid crows.

Fun fact from MM 2 (1988) to 8 (1996) every robot master besides Tengu man and 1 other were fan submission. So, Murata would have still been in school for the contest, he was also the illustrator of the American Football series Eyeshield 21.

I love watching them go “yeah this is the score of my math is correct, but it’ll be really funny if one of these days I get it wrong and the numbers just all shift in the video” and then watch that happen twice. Anyways Wind man is way better than tornado man. Also. Should probably be noted. Wind Man in universe is from China, the whole deal with 6 is that robot masters from around the world came to compete in a tournament so the reason he hates herbal medicines is cause he's from there and has had them, and not cause he's racist. Still weird that they decided to call it "oriental herbal medicines" though

airman is actually considered one of the easiest bosses to beat with mega buster only in MM2 (its either him or metalman), there was just a popular meme song from several years ago about how hard his stage was because the people who made it suck at megaman and that somehow morphed into everyone thinking airman himself was hard when he's actually really easy

Maybe it was solved in the US version but due to the way the fight is programmed there are some attack patterns he can shoot out that are unreasonable to expect someone to dodge and you can only get a few shots off in between attacks. The song also was largely tongue in cheek about sucking at the game. I mean the pattern of the song is him not being able to clear Heatman's platforming section (something that Capcom themselves didn't expect or demand to be able to clear without Item 2) and needing the item from Airman, and then later in the song's joke shifts to saying, "I could beat Airman if I had the Leaf Shield but I can't beat Woodman."

Tengu man's shuriken that he throws is representative of the leaves that Tengu are said to use to create great gusts of wind, hence why it looks like a leaf in his arm, and why it creates a tornado.

Dust Man and I believe that a Robot Master of Mega Man 5 are both designed by Yusuke Murata, the artist of One Punch Man. It was in those times that many franchises led their public participate on design contests. Digimon also had its many contests where many Digimon became official, the most known is Cyberdramon as the partner of Ryo in Digimon Tamers. I forgot that the Robot Masters of MM5 all of them were made to frame Proto Man, but in the Megamix Manga they are just attractions for an amusement park because Willy needed funds.

Even when he's no joke, Dust Man is still kind of a joke. In the fangame Rockman 4 Minus Infinity, you can use his weapon to kill a minor NPC that gives you items. It's a bad idea, but the game lets you do it.

Answering Nico's question in the Gyro Man section. Light only built the Robot Masters in 1 and 9. Cossack built 4's. 6 and 11's are from random scientists across the world. 3's are a combined effort with Light and Wily. Everyone else is Wily's.

I will not tolerate Tornado man slander. I get the design is basic, but that's the whole point. Mega man 9, and to a lesser extent 10, were them 'getting back to basics'. It's a throwback design that in my opinion works really well, especially if you see his sprite animations.

the joke of airman ga taosenai is that it's sung from the perspective of someone who _really_ sucks at mega man, with the punchline being how it progresses from the reasonable "can't get past the yoku blocks on heat man's stage" to the pathetic "can't beat air man to get the item to skip the blocks" to the _utterly_ pathetic "can't beat _wood man_ to get the weapon air man's weak to" it's one of those things that expects you to know the game so you have the context to get that the narrator is _not_ an everyman perspective

I mean not being able to defeat Airman was more reasonable in the JP version because of more unforgiving patterns that never made it to the states.
