To your comment on Matthews' injury I can't help but look at Cale Makar's second concussion where he took what looked like just a regular hit, then he left the ice and came back and tried to grind the rest of the game out, only to miss the next couple of weeks. I'm by no means a Toronto fan but I hope for Matthews' sake he doesn't have the same type of trouble, especially if O'Reilly's out again.

I dunno if proximity to the shot release is necessarily the best predictor as to how painful it's gonna be. Pucks can keep accelerating all the way to the net so you can easily argue it's safer to be closer to the release than further away.
@dayman4753
@dayman4753 Жыл бұрын
Physics says otherwise. Objects don't accelerate unless there is a force applied that overcomes friction and air resistance losses. Once the puck leaves the shooter's stick no more force is being applied, acceleration stops at that point.

Someone on Twitter was able to snap a picture of O'Reilly and the had a covering on his left hand index finger. That could be a bruise, or it could be an injury but I'd say the better comparison to his situation isn't Gallagher but Kadri's from last year. Dude missed 11 games IIRC but was able to come back. I don't know what Matthews's deal is this season though. His approach is much more passive where he's looking to defer the puck more. He also doesn't finish as easily as he did last year either. If he's playing through a back injury, this leg issue might give him enough time to actually get back to 100% as opposed to playing at 90% in meaningless regular season games.

It is so Toronto though. The last time the Leafs went all in (2002-2003?), they acquired a few players at the deadline, including reacquiring Doug Gilmour who was injured for the season in his first game back. Leafs went out in first round. I see it happening again. My first thought when he came back after blocking the shot was "whose brilliant idea was it to have Matthews return in a meaningless game?" I assume Matthews wanted to play but I think Keefe should have grown a spine and said "Matty, you are sitting this one out, precautionary."

There is a photo of O’Reilly leaving the rink with a brace on his finger, hand looks okay, not swollen like a baseball, so I’m hoping it’s just a finger fracture that’ll heal in a few weeks and let him stay involved in practices soon. I’m a bit more concerned about Auston because he was just out with a knee injury over All Star Break, hoping it’s not the same knee.. Keefe and Dubas better get on these guys about giving it time to heal properly. We’re basically playing Tampa regardless, so I’d rather have a rough month or so and get them back at 100% rather than have them playing at 70-80% in the playoffs because they didn’t take the time they needed

Took longer to recover, get the swelling to go down each time I “tweaked” it aka practiced and played. Changing out 1/3 of the team you ice with only 20 games left with will either be viewed as brilliant, or terrible depending how the playoffs go. The Leafs under Ferguson Jr., Fletcher (very briefly), then Burke over 9+ years made the post-season only once & that was in the lock-out shortened season 12/13 where they squeaked into the playoffs & face planted against Boston. Burke had already been fired in Jan prior to the playoffs. People who think Dubas doesn't know what he's doing, should go back to those 3 guys & check out their drafting, trades & ufa acquisitions. In rounds 2-7 where competent teams find gems, these guys all seemed obsessed with size, mostly drafting picks 6'+ & 200 lbs or heavier. Other organizations drafted slightly smaller players, but with high skill & compete levels. Kucherov (5'11" 181 lbs), Marchand (5'9" 176) & Point (5'11" 180) just to name only 3 drafted after Leaf selections. Go back & have a look, it's pathetic. In 2011 Burke had TWO firsts & only one played NHL games (12). Picked after those 2, Danault, Namestnikov, Rakell, Jenner, Mayfield (big D-man), Gibson (G), Saad, Nieto, Brett Ritchie, Granlund, Edmundson (big D-man), William Karlsson & Kucherov to name just a few. Burke's drafting was utterly inept, but he does talk a good game. Leaf picks for the most part never made the NHL. On a more positive note, I have no doubt that the Leafs can beat Tampa, although I'm less sure about Boston. Assuming the Leafs have no injuries to their best players, they will be very hard to beat in the post-season. They were a crap team all through Ferguson Jr., Fletcher, Burke, Nonis & Lamoriello's 1st year, 9which was deliberate). They've made the post-season 6 years straight, have evolved & are at this point, a much better team. We'll soon see if they can now succeed in the east, which is going to be extremely difficult.

I do not feel for the fan base I was a fan back in 80s 90s. I walked away when I realized they do not truly care about putting a GOOD team on the ice. Just putting people in the seats. They just continuously put a team good enough on the ice, Knowing that will put butts in the seats.

Canucks are vastly underperforming this year. Recent additions, plus Hronek and return of Demko makes them in the upper half of the league next year….if they make one or two moves to improve the blue line, like getting rid of Myers. No rebuild needed. Retool for sure.

This team is another 1st round exit. Idgaf who they picked up. There is no heart on this team in their core four. 4 cream puffs that probably actually look forward to hitting the driving range as soon as possible. Tee up, boys. Toronto out in the first round................... again. Probably in 6, maybe 5.
