-It is a flame maple veneer, not a photo. Satin finish will lessen the amount of motion on some flame tops. -It is a Pure Tone mono jack with two points of connection -The swimming pool routes under the neck pickup on Reverends add to acoustic resonance and projection like an acoustic -Reverend sets up all of their guitars before they are shipped out, so they might be worth demo-ing before taking them apart. Especially with Wilkinson-equipped guitars such as this -Reverend's more tele adjacent models include the Eastsiders T and S, PA-3 Baritone, Greg Koch Gristlemaster and Gristle 90, the Crosscut, and now discontinued Trick Shot.

Reeves uses Reverends because he feels it's able to cover most of the sounds in the Cures back catalogue. they've used everything from Jazz Masters, Teles, Les Pauls, Moserites, Gretsch / Gibson hollow bodies, Schecter, Nationals - (along with the Bass VI, Coral Sitar etc). So it's a nice compromise in terms of tone. He uses these for most of the show, but will switch to a Les Paul and a Bass VI when required.

you need something to put under the bridge to keep it level when taking the strings off. it will save you some tuning issues. a little something i learned from 40 years of playing floating bridges.

The Greg Koch Reverend model is a full on Tele.

The output jack is a True Tone connector, superior to all other 1/4" output connectors. The top is listed as flamed maple, it is a veneer. Typically satin finishes are not conducive to the chatoyance effect.

I doubt the veneer would ever wear through, and as for the satin finish, it will gloss up in high wear areas and then just wear down slowly like any other finish. Given that its a poly finish it will most likely just gloss up a bit.

@@lettuce_spray Absolutely yes. Modern Poly finishes are indestructible. My Son asked me about the possibility of installing a passive bass roll-off circuit in either one of his Jazzmasters or possibly a Les Paul. With the Jazzmaster you could utilize the satellite controls on the upper horn!

Wow, seeing Reeves Gabrels play in the 90s turned me onto the Parker Fly - that's what he was playing with Bowie and possibly others for some time there. That Dirtbike/Royale is the same design as the Mike Watt signature bass from Reverend - very cool.

Flame tops vs. satin clear coats: I’ve found that the more satin the finish, the less movement you get… so if the top/veneer was already limited in movement, making it satin makes it just look frozen or fake/photo. It could also be because it looks like they didn’t do what PRS does to make the flame pop (it’s a multi-step dye process), so it’s got less depth.

I really like the looks of this guitar. I especially love the way it is shaped for the arm across the front and the back depression so it can sit close to your body like the Stratocaster. The slight slant is also very cool.

I wish people would be more unhappy about spending $1200 or $1300 for a guitar and not even getting a gigbag.I personally wouldn't spend that much and get a guitar in a box.I just got the Silver Sky SE and it was $900 with a gigbag like it should be.Just saying the industry won't change if there is no push back.

I snapped one of the posts once on a Wilkinson brdge equipped guitar once. I'm not sure if this one is the same, but that one had a tiny set/locking allen screw within the post that you have to loosen off before adjusting.

Wish Trogly would research the specs and models further. They make Tele shaped bodies and even a Strat body now. The electronics are a bit more then stated. So many details missing here. To get to really know the guitars, check out Reverends KZfaq channel.

I love the gap between the bridge and the bridge pickup. Vito Bratta had a single-pickup Steinberger back in the day and it had a similar (maybe slightly larger) gap. That thing sounded beautiful; if I could afford to have a guitar made for me, that gap would definitely be there.

I recently purchased a Reverend Flat Rock. My first Reverend. I cannot say enough good things about the guitar. It stays in tune, sounds great and has the most comfortable neck I have played in a long long time. Locking tuners are killer, and for a slightly quirky guitar shape, it is very comfortable to play for an entire gig. Love this guitar...

I have a lefty Buckshot and it's a great guitar for the money, it's quite old and has absolutely no flaws or factory shortcomings, I hope the defects you pointed out are a rare oversight

With the bass contour, it's good to leave a little bit of room at the top, so when you need that extra 10% to break up your amp, you just twist the knob to 10.

You reminded me of something Trogly. Porl/Pearl Thompson of The Cure had one of the weirdest Gibson guitars I've ever seen. A Gibson 175 with a Fender headstock. There is a youtube video floating around somewhere of the guy who bought the guitar. But Pearl used that guitar throughout the 80's / 90's and during the Page/Plant tour she played on during the 90's. And it's always baffled me as to how it came about.

That neck pickup + the bass contour was the best. The bridge pickup sounded too harsh to my ears. This could be a one pickup guitar and I'd be happy.

I’ve got a Dirtbike Royale. It’s really cool. Despite the inline headstock it’s setneck and Gibson scale. Also it has the cool mojotone quiet p90s

I got my first Reverend (Sensei Jr.) and it is a phenomenal guitar. It is all stock and plays like a dream. I suggest you to dokument one. True rock machine.

I like the older Reverend model that had P90 / humbucker layout. Maybe they still make it I’m not up to date on their models. But the one I played about 7 years ago was pretty nice. I borrowed it for an impromptu gig when I was out of town visiting an old band mate. Played a set with it and really enjoyed it.

The do still make them. The Double Agent which is available with either a Wilkinson Trem bridge or a TOM stoptail. They also have the Six Gun which has two P-90s and a humbucker. I’ve never played a Six Gun, but I love the Double Agent with the TOM bridge.

Reverend used to be a quality instrument even after they started manufacturing in Korea but nowadays the company doesn't seem to give a crap at all about what goes out their door.

Just like Gibson ;) Not crapping on them to crap on them but I bought an explorer that came with a cracked fretboard and binding. Deep creeks on the tailpiece posts and ugly marks on the neck binding. They don't care either.

@@pawnmack Ahh now it makes sense. I know QC has been spotty always but this is pretty extreme. This is the stereotypical argument but for a 2k plus guitar it should be pretty close to "perfect" as it can be. Oh and the bridge pickup is way weaker than the neck . I'm talking about neck: 7.25, and bridge: 6.59. What were they thinking!??

You really need to get ahold of some Michigan made Reverends, those are quite special, I’ve got a buddy with a very early Rocco and it’s amazing! I want a Slingshot JR or a Hitman! The bodies of them are really interesting as they’re not made of solid wood. You really need to check some out!

It's proportions look exquisitely turned down from the true Tele, and the faire of the tone was pretty deep for the grab hold price. It's an ante. It's also carved out just missing the takedown of a real Fender or as much of a cool top. So there's ya go!

Oooh. Dirty tones were good on my setup..I want one really grew on me..I like it..looks good.. fretboard seems wide compared to most guitars like this..seems like a les Paul width.but that's jst bay watching you play it.mgood job trogly.....as usual..

Off topic Trogs.. Today I received my new Gibson SG 61’ Maestro Vibrola from AMS and on a 2 day delivery.. YEAP..Snapped off headstock ..that was the first time I have ever been involved with a busted headstock..what sinking feeling that was!! Thanks for another great video!!

@@cpfs936 hey, CPFS, Unfortunately, just a couple of weeks after my post, I discovered my storage unit had been burglarized. Lost 9 guitars and an amp. I’ve seen a couple of videos on KZfaq (including Trogly’s) concerning this issue. And it’s happening more and more. So be careful. I lost my Spacehawk. It was in the ultra cool purple burst. Mint condition. Teardrop case. Also lost my Reverend “tricky Gomez” both No longer in production. So can’t be replaced. (Readily anyway). Sucks! Luckily I still have 1 Reverend. a Rick Vito signature. Not his new one, one from about 2013. Ebony gloss w/a cream stripe down the middle. Very “Art Deco”. I am going to continue to search for another space hawk in either the purple burst or the red burst. But they are not popping up on Reverb or eBay very often…

Real hammers are good pickups they have a wide variety as well but they are their own entity not partnered with Reverend. fantastic pickups. I have a set in one of my Les Pauls I can't remember what type of rail hammers they are but they scream
