The problem was that the movie was a few years too late. It's a very similar plot to iron man in large sums. The special effects were okay imo, the mc's acting was fairly decent considering he is talking to a puppet, which is pretty hard for a lot of actors to pull off. It's just.. too little is happening, and it's a bit too generic. But hey, that's not the guy's fault.

Secondly, what he means is that there isn’t usually a celebrated graduation ceremony after leaving elementary school ( I didn’t have one, and I’m assuming he didn’t either). However, he did technically „graduate“ elementary school, considering he finished fifth grade. So, there’s your answer and the reason he said he „graduated“ elementary school. The answer most people infer and easily understand, but you must’ve been too lazy or inconsiderate to do that.
