Questions: Is it safe to walk at night from Montford to downtown Asheville? As somebody like yourself that moved here from Russia years ago, what are your thoughts on Ukraine?

That’s a loaded question 😁 1. I honestly don’t know how safe or unsafe it is to walk there at night. As a female (and someone who grew up in Russia), I’m always aware and on alert when out and about. I probably won’t be walking anywhere by myself at night. 2. I don’t think it’s all black and white and no one can trust their country media these days. As an American I think it’s one of the biggest money laundering operations that’s right in all of our faces.

Sadly Asheville has high crime for a small city. 4 shootings in 4 days just happened. Homeless are everywhere. Some are aggrrssive. Overly expensive. Rampant growth. Corrupt city leaders. A hospital sold to a for profit company . Google whats going on.. I meant to say some homeless are aggressive. This past summer a homeless black man stabbed a dog to death in a park while the owner was playing pickleball. A month before a diffrent man threatened a woman and her dog while she was on a greenway. Theres a homeless shelter in montford. Ashevilles tda spends millions advertissing Asheville to come visit and live. Infrastructure cant handle ut. This lady seems nice trying to sell real estate , but im being honest. Google these things about Asheville. Tourism comes before residents.

Most homeless are drug addicts, and yes there’s a lot more of them in the past few years. More crime? What did everyone expect when they decided to defund the police? Doesn’t look like the redistribution of resources and money made a dent in helping with mentally ill on the streets, etc. Tourism spending is a hot topic rn for sure. There’s an active discussion trying to curb their spending. We know how cutting someone’s funds (ADP’s) and not having a good plan for what to do with the money turn out last time… I’m not disagreeing that there needs to be some kind of limit, BUT if it wasn’t for tourism, most small businesses, restaurants, coffee shops, galleries wouldn’t be here. Just look back at when TDA was established 40 years ago. Again, there can be too much of a good thing and there needs to be a discussion and public awareness for sure.
