The budget lightsabers from 2005 were peak they were without a doubt my favorite. The fact they had clips so you could wear them on your belt. They didn’t stick out and actually lock into the handle of the saber

I legitimately still own that exact same older model of toy lightsaber! It is so ridiculously better than the newer junk in both blade length, and the fact it uses an actual lock to keep everything retracted while modern ones are mechanically loose.

I actually owned one of the 2005 lightsabers and I am a 2009 baby and I somehow have memories of me digging in my toy box and finding that exact blue lightsaber

Firstly, it's super funny that the face is just like, almost the lego minifigure version of Ahsoka but altered just enough to not be an exact copy. And secondly, the idea of all of the jedi having remade lightsabers that look like this is honestly hilarious.

The pull out sabers were the best. They weren’t club key and looked like actual lightsabers. Also the quality on those. Me and my brother would make each other bleed with those hahah and be hitting trees and they would still be standing

Those old school ones were the best!! My buddies and I all carried multiple in our backpacks. Never knew who was gonna start a fight so you had to be ready

I love those budget lightsabers from back then! One of my sister’s and I got them when my oldest got a light up one, I always like bringing up that mine is Darth Vader’s (basically Anakin), the other one is Obi-Wan’s and the light up one is Qui-Gon’s, so we’ve got the lineage in order.

In 2015 they released a series of sabers with the same telescopic gimmick. Except there was no release button, you simply flick them, these also look like actual lightsabers

I never forget the day my best friend showed up on my doorstep to show me his new lightsaber, it was the Qui-gon hilt with the blue blade. We loved those things. When we got light-up ones, I designated those as Padawan training sabers and passed them on to the younger siblings who joined us in learning the ways of the Force (we had a whole neighborhood Jedi club that included upwards of 12-15 people).

Just gave a red and a blue OG lightsaber to my little brothers. Felt good passing them on to the next generation. Felt like Old Ben.

The fact that the red Anakin saber is now a screen accurate representation makes me very happy.

Those old lightsaber toys were unbelievably durable. Like, you'd have to really wail on something to damage it, so it made for awesome long-lasting potential to play around with.

I got a dual sabre with one blue end and one red end for my 7th birthday from a family friend. The only one I ever had with any kind of sound or lights. Coolest birthday gift ever

I had two of those budget sabres back in the day. A red Anakin and blue Qui-gon, unfortunately I think I binned them years ago however I do still have my spring loaded light up Anakin Sabre. That one I will be treasuring for life.

I remember 2010s they started doing more advanced shit like having responsive sound effects for waving and hitting. Got a dark side one that was supposed to be like mauls, but one side was like a little dagger you screwed on the end.

You can't beat those old lock up lightsabers they were the best. Me and my cousins collected all of them and battled with them so much, practiced like anything. We actually mesmerised the anakin and obi wan fight from episode 3

Remember when the electronic ones ran on D batteries so the entire hilt was electronics and half the blade was just sticking out all the time? When they made them take AA batteries and the whole blade disappeared inside, it was huge.

Look, they were kind of expensive and niche, but the downtown disney build your own lightsaber lit up, could handle abuse, and could have parts swapped out on a whim. Those were the best.

The old telescopic was really good for fights. You could mid air throw it out and clash, pretty fuckin fun as a kid.

I had a red bladed qui gon gin hilt. Something about even the budget hilts back in the day just felt so good in the hand. Mine is so beat up and warped that it cant even telescope fully through swinging it anymore. So many memories

When I was a kid the cheap lightsabers didn't even look like lightsabers. They had the telescopic blade, but it was white, and the handle was literally just a black flashlight handle with thin gold lines painted around it, and on the end of the handle it had the 'STAR WARS' logo in raised lettering. Thinking about it now it's hard to believe they were officially licensed merch, but they were, got 'em at Toys R Us probably around 90-91.

I always preferred those old ones that slid in. The blade was made of good hard plastic to hitting the other one was never an issue. The glowing ones are cool but damn if the plastic isnt brittle and weak.

I had Attack of the Clones Obi-Wan saber and from there on that hilt design has had a special place in my heart. Loved those things, man!

I prefer the telescopic ones tbh because you don’t need a special case to carry it around, truly a weapon from a more civilized age.

When i was a kid in the 90's the blade didnt go all the way back inside of the hilt so you still had a big chunk just sticking out and you had to keep it held upright or it would extend.

I had the Qui-Gon green one. I loved how sturdy they were, even to thins day they still hold up, even the current electronic ones don’t compare to the early 2000s ones.
