Here's the second part of my textured stoneware trimming micro-series. You can watch the first part here, where the pot is thrown: • This New Clay Hurt to ... - I conclude this video with a little montage that shows a variety of other stoneware clay bodies being trimmed - but I'll have to make a more thorough film about this process in the future!
🌫 • YSP EXHIBITION INFORMATION: ysp.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitio...
🪨 I'm using the groggy pink stoneware from Potclays - www.potclays.co.uk (Bear in mind I have no idea how well it fires yet, so purchase it at your own risk!)

*It's worth noting! That you won't get the same results as I do if you're firing in oxidation. The reduction firing really helps with this process.
*I throw using both a Rohde HMT 500 & 600 potter's wheel and fire using Rohde kilns too, the electric is a TE-200 and the gas kiln is a KG-340.

As much as I love the dual-action kidney use, I’m particularly impressed by how you can tell which part of the bowl is uneven and making the rim undulate.

i think the forms you make really epitomize the "less is more philosophy" they seem somewhat modern and classic at the same time.

I love the idea of doing some pots with unglazed outsides! The difference in texture between the unglazed clay and the crackle glazes would be very interesting! Thanks for sharing this. I'm excited for the firing and glazing of this groggy clay body.

Hey! I don’t think you’ve done a video on this yet but I would love to hear you talk about how you watch out for your health in this occupation- carpal tunnel, back issues from bending over the wheel, maybe how you keep the dust at bay when mopping, etc

Lol, In all seriousness your content are prolific. I’m in my second year of instructing pottery, you’ve helped me and my students by making the knowledge to do this accessible. Keep inspiring, and keep moving forward. ✨

I love all the different colours the clays have. Very interesting video, loved learning about different clay and how they trim. Can’t wait to see what they look like bisk fired, then glazed. I love watching your videos, I learn so much. Plus you explain things really well.

I’m loving the texture of this clay. The lines remind me of a time lapse photo of the stars. I can’t wait to see how the glaze reacts to those, if it will still be slightly visible. The first greyer clay made in conjunction with David Right had a gorgeous texture as well, I feel for your fingertips but it does look fantastic. Glazing just the inside would be a wonderful contrast.

Despite how featured the “grog” clay body looks even after trimming, the difference made by burnishing the bottom made me exclaim audibly in astonishment. For the bowl to appear rough and textured while other portions of the same piece remain sleek and near featureless is very cool and a sight to behold.

A future piece that will only have the interiors glazed?? I was actually thinking of this concept, however I don’t have the means to do that right now as I don’t have access to a wheel at the moment. I will be thoroughly anticipating seeing this concept come to life in the future!!

Hi, I'm new to pottery. How do you make sure that the glazes are food safe? Learning about glaze recently and from what I read some oxides can leach out after they are fired
