This awesome new commander was revealed by Wizards of the Coast for Magic the Gathering's upcoming set The Lost Caverns of Ixalan. This commander wants you to boost up your creatures in order to boost up your creatures more. Build this as a counter deck, aura deck, equipment deck, or more.

One guy in our LGS has Jodah deck with just randomized legendaries. It works, cause Jodah is just that easy.

You read the card wrong - the other creature attacking or not doesn’t matter. The buff happens from Sovereign Okinec Ahau attacking, not other creatures attacking

Instantly digging this one. I'd probably do the "combat trick" build. Giant growth is now +6/+6 for 1 mana and half of that is permanent and will double the next turn! Seems more efficient than putting +1/+1s on directly and can still benefit from proliferate and counter support

Makes might of the masses go off for one mana in token decks. Also makes Overwhelming Stampede/craterhoof make your creatures massive for one attack and still pretty huge after attacking.

I also like this commander with like tribal aura effects or something like original elesh norn because then you really don’t even have to work to put any counters or anything on it just have a lord or two out and grow your team exponentially, plus you can easily fit in like a cathars or craterhoof and white craterhoof to make everything get double craterhoof effectiveness

It's not whenever a creature you controls attacks, it's whenever the Sovereign attacks. I mean, the card is right there on the screen.

Clamavus is a great card for the deck. The difference in power caused by +1/+1 counters will be sextupled by the first Okinec trigger if both are in play and quadrupled each following time.

I love voltron decks. My equipment/voltron deck is mono white and basically the strat is to make the commander immune to every color with the swords or give it flying, then buff it to be 21/21 and swing over every blocker.

There are tons of counter decks out there, and probably better commanders for that. What seems more interesting and unique here is leaning into overrun effects & combat tricks, so that effects costed for a single turn bonus become permanent, and then keep compounding on subsequent combats. Suddenly a bunch of cards that weren’t that good in a multiplayer format become much more playable.

Keep in mind it only looks at POWER, +1/+0 modifiers will also get you a +1/+1 token.

I had a streak of making red decks, which is a color I barely used, I really took a liking to impulse drawing for some reason, this thing may actually break said streak, I couldn't help but think about Ajani's pridemate when I saw it, even tho I won't build it with that in mind, not sure how I will tho since as you say, there's many ways to build it

I have a token human deck that will be insane with this kitty. Kyler makes it so that every time a human enters the battlefield, he gets a +1/+1 counter, and for every counter, all other humans get that many counters. This noble kitty is a triple my power and toughness on all of my creatures except Kyler. It'll be insane. I can't wait to have one.

I still dont understand how every kind is cat is considered a cat in mtg But how dogs and werewolfs etc are not considered the same type

Mechanically werewolves have a very distinct identity. Hence it makes sense to me the designers want to limit that tag so they can target a specific subset of cards. Looking at the colour pie dogs are usually connected to loyalty and white whereas (were)wolves are green/red typically. Rats and mice are arguably also pretty similar but rats are the black-aligned rodent type and mice the white-aligned one. Thus expressing different identities. As far as I can tell the cat tag is a white/green thing and also mechanically I don't see a strong theme that warrants a division of cats into subtypes. I believe the creature tags are based on more than just "animal taxonomy" thus the different treatment that seems strange at first is actually justifiable in my opinion.
