Love that background piece that you did too! These mats are also very useful in the kitchen (food grade silicon) and as part of a baby gift. They can provide stabilization for cutting boards, mixing bowls, and are great to put under baby plates for beginning self feeders, also helpful for stroke patients, etc. That may only be able to use one arm - I’m a speech pathologist and have worked with Occupational Therapists over the years

Thanks Simon for sharing your great techniques. Though I may not be in the market to purchase any mats right now it's nice to know that they exist and how to use them in case I do feel a need in future. In the grand scheme of things it's nice to know that the craft market is thriving so we makers will have plenty of products to choose from! Additionally it's wonderful to see the strides you are achieving as a maker and in growing your product line. Don't let anyone or anything dampen your enthusiasm!

I have both of these mats and wasn't sure what I was going to do with the silicone mat, but I'm SO excited to try the water and ink background--it's so gorgeous! In fact, I might even use this video as an excuse to finally get some Lunar Paste (I've had my eye on it for a while. 😉) Thank you for the ideas!

The last example was my favorite, and not just because you used Tropical Tango to edge it (my favorite ink pad ever!). I love backgrounds like that and the mat made it super easy to make. Thanks for sharing your talent & tips with us!

I loved the different techniques, I have to get my hands on some of the Lunar Paste here in Canada. I haven’t found it in my local shops, I am Leary about ordering from the US as customs tends to be a headache.

Does the mat hold all stamp pads? I have the mini and they don't have flat bottoms, just small edges. I love the idea of holding stamp pads but if it works for types of stamp pads.

Thanks for this demonstration Simon, very helpful!! Oh man I think I need that clearly amazing mat for sure. But both of them together seem to work wonderfully well. Also the silicone mat can be rolled up and stored. Can you speak to how the clearly amazing mat works on a glass surface (like the TH platform)?

Glad you found it helpful! The clearly amazing mat is just plastic on the back so it will slide on a glass mat. It is the silicone mate that grips the plastic. No adhesive or tack. :)

A while back you recommended the Brutus Monroe Sticky Mat. From the first time I used it, it didn’t have even a slight bit of stickiness. Leary of spending $$ for another new one.

Something may have changed from one batch to another because mine was very sticky. That can happen sometimes during manufacturing which stinks! Sorry you had that experience. The mat I shared today is silicone so it’s the silicone that provides the stick and never gets unsticky like adhesive. :)

I noticed that this mat comes in a square container and when you pulled it out to smooth it down it had an indentation in the mat. Does this go away? I like what they can help you do but I don't want a permanent indentation in it. Thanks for sharing the tips.

Hi Bunny, I have the silicone mat and it's pretty thin, but extremely flexible and seems durable. It comes folded in half in the tube, but once you spread it out and kind of stick it to your surface, it's very flat. ☺️

Do you know if you can just buy the handles separate for the blending tool? I know you can get a set of 2 with more blending sponges but I would like to get some extra handles without more blending sponges.

A silicone baking mat does exactly the same thing but costs next to nothing.

You didn't say if the smaller sticky mat is heat proof. The paper might not have warped as much if you had stuck it to the little mat and blow dried it. If you are using that much water with the inks shouldn't you have used a watercolor paper? Maybe a 170lb paper, hot press or cold press. But a thicker paper. Just curious. Good question! The smaller sticky mat is plastic and should be removed before heating. :) I find that my Stark White cardstock handles water nicely, but you could totally switch to watercolor cardstock too!

@@simon.hurley Hi, Thank you for responding to my question. I have another one... If I'm using watercolor paper for the front artwork on a card, how could I attach it to the card? Trying to save money on the watercolor paper, cardstock is cheaper. I've also considered using the two different papers because I've made beautiful fronts, then goofed up the calligraphy wording on the inside of the cards. I just don't want it obvious that I've goofed, and cut the front of the card off either. My family and close friends know I make my own cards, they've gotten used to me. But I've got a new job, and new friends, and I'd rather look more polished now if I make someone a card. Everytime I make a card, there's a 50/50 chance I'm making a mistake somewhere, either with the art or the words. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you for your time and help. 👵✌️🖖

@@BROUBoomer for putting water color paper on a card front I usually use bearly art glue (before we had that I used tacky glue) and weight it down to dry.

@@AimeeFleck Hi, Thank you so very much for the advice!!! Greatly appreciated. 😁 Sometimes I just watercolor a background for stamping, or watercolor in the rubber stamped area. For family members I've done glue sticks, or cut slits and popped it in, slits don't look very good. I've left a tab on the cardstock and glued the watercolor paper to it. My mother asked if I goofed up another card. It's one thing hearing this stuff from family, and old dear friends. But I'm trying to up my game. Thank you so much for the help. Good video not so much the product. I wouldn't buy something that requires two items to do one job. Just me. I think the entire crafting community must thank Tim Holtz for the smooshing technique you used with your inks. He is the ultimate innovator of all things paper and sub-straight crafting.
