It sounded nice in the minigame because Raiden was playing the same melody on the lyre, you have to combine the zither with a lyre for it to shine, this new instrument is not typically made for playing the melody alone. Complaining about the zither's sound not having the same ring as the lyre is like complaining about Diona not being able to deal as much damage as Ganyu with the same build.

This sounds more like a Japanese instrument than a western instrument so maybe that’s why people aren’t used to it. It’s not bad just different even though I also prefer the lyre more.

If you listen closely, you can here the thing playing the background. Most you hear is just in game music though, but the instrument sounds a lot more like traditional Japanese instruments.

It is not weird, it sounds exactly like the Japanese Shamisen. It even does the buzzing sound when you play the lower notes, it’s extremely accurate!

Its supposed to be a duo instrument. Thats why it sounds off. Also, we need another instrument like a sitar or tabla for Sumeru, to fit the theme.

There's also the fact that reverb can be put on digital instruments when composing (I only know this cause my brother composes with music software). However I don't think Mihoyo does that considering they have an entire orchestra at their disposal.

lol, it's just a different sounding instrument, of course it sounds different as a gadget, it probably uses a synthesiser version of a zither or shamisen. I think it sounds pretty cool from how different it is feom the game's lyre gadget :D

Sounds fine if you play "Dual in the Mist", the Inazuma enemy encounter theme, since that's a similar instrument

Stop saying it needs the help of the lyre. Just have a listen to the ost compared to the gadget. ("streets of elegance" for example) did it need a lyre? No. But the gadget version needs it? Because to me all it really is a bit of reverb so it sounds like the player is letting the strings ring a little instead of plucking and then muting it immediately.

It's alright I guess, I definitely prefer how the Shamisen sounds then Genshin's version of it, the Zither sounds a bit off to me but that's just my opinion.
