@@Navy1977 the design looks like it’s 90% new. Wish they had a ratio that they kept to for when taking on projects, but that’s easy for me to say

@@1972mdcit has to be more. I might be terrible, but I get encouragement when the home owners run out of budget at the end of some of these projects and have to cut corners on things like closet interiors. Otherwise it feels like rich people have no limitations, which is obviously not true. Everyone pushes the envelope, regardless of wealth.

It seems Kevin is contributing more and more to the building. He was a great replacement for the host! I’ve watched TOH from the start and Kevin is as good as it gets! I miss Norm, but the rest of the crew like Tommy and Rich and all the new crew are great! Can’t wait for the next episode. Thanxz

That roof ... Getting the order of operations for a seamless install requires some super deep talent. It shows how much skill Tommy and his crew have.

This remodel and additions has to cost, just a guess, between $4 and $5 million. Why not just build new ?
@Kevin-mp5of
@Kevin-mp5of Ай бұрын
Because the permits and regulations and codes and grading and sewage requirements,, etc. would push the cost through the roof for new construction as opposed to remodel, not to mention the time it takes for city permits and approvals and sign offs.

Ive been watching This Old House since I was a kid in the 80s. This is absurd. This isn't about restoring an old house. This is right in line with the scourge of the US: taking a decent old house and making a monstrosity out of it. Leaving the facade untouched doesn't excuse it. This is a massive display of disgusting wealth on display while the majority of the country suffers under greedflation and forced austerity. It's sad.

@@Navy1977 It's a matter of which projects This Old House chooses that I have an issue with. This is not bringing an old house back to its former self, it's using it as a literal facade to build an incredibly expensive new house while avoiding the associated permit fees and taxes.

Excellent points you make here. I enjoy the building process but the deeper issue in the background is just like you say, seems as if they are skirting the regulations to their advantage. On a lighter note, at least they save a couple of Azaleas!, 😅

The complexity of the roof is unnecessary a better design would have simplified and architecturally refine the roofline and given the owner better value.. nobody will notice this roof..

Much more when you factor in permits and taxes on a new construction. Not to mention the time to get permits and approvals. “Grandfathered” saves a lot of money and frustration…
