In New Zealand, Lawrie attempted to find the worst car in the Southern Hemisphere. However, back home I was left with this - his mother's spare car. A very, very tired Peugeot 307. And I decided we just had to review it.

@@Kacpa2 it actually really affected the company incredibly. Peugeot were always super cool and was were Le Mans winners. Within 6 years of that, they are getting mocked by an worldwide car show. The Peugeot 407 and 307 are good cars. It's like calling a Toyotas boring without actually driving one. Satire or not, top gear completely ruined their reputation. If you think Peugeot make bad cars then that's an opinion. I like the 407 and intend on getting a 1.6 HDI

To be honest the 307 as "the worst car in the world" is quite honestly unfair. There are far ghastlier than this and the power of perception is a powerful thing. In fact there are Hondas and Toyotas which did not work as reliably as the 307 when neglected but no one bats an eye. As a car the 307 ticked all the right boxes at it's time. If I were to do that stupid "modern Peugeot driver" skit that TopGear did in my region, it would have all been Toyotas, or their budget brand Perodua. Now come and think of it, maybe I would he doing that soon. 😶‍🌫️

amclueless - I remember British Leyland being the same as most other cars at the time especially Ford and Vauxhall - no better and no worst. As a matter of FACT I have never bought a Ford as the company we worked for used them as company cars and they were always having problems and it was usually major going through engines and gearboxes as if they were wear and tear items and luckily for the company they were under warranty - of course they would not move from Ford because they gave the cheapest prices to keep companies buying their cars. The people that believe all the crap about Leyland are usually Top Gear viewers who believe all the crap that those "journalists" spouted. I owned a 1978 Morris Marina 1.8HL twin carb which was an excellent fast reliable car. I also owned a 1980 Austin Allegro 1750 Equipe and that was also a very reliable car and used to own a 1983 Austin Mini Mayfair also very reliable and that was because I used to service and look after my own cars and rustproof them as well. Most people did not bother looking after their cars and only took it into the garage when inevitably something went wrong or broke down and then they would blame the car or manufacturer. Funny how the surviving Leyland cars today are still plodding away no problem as long as they are looked after and the people owning them today are happy with them and say that they are good cars. Most people are sheep and will parrot any old shite they are told and that is why the Elites have been taking the piss out of humanity for the last couple of thousand years at least and if you want to see how they are taking the piss out of you then Google Paisley Expressions and also Chris Spivey.org. This car in the video would be an okay car if it was looked after properly but as I said it is down to the owner not the car.

I've had all the diesels plus a 1.4 and 1.6 petrol, the 1.6 petrol was my favourite because as this clown said, it does sound quite good when you rev the nuts off it plus its pretty swift with 110bhp. The handling can be iffy if they have the 15 inch alloys seen on that video, big side walls makes them sway a bit. The 16 inch alloys are the best for handling, it makes them very capable on a back road.

Bollocks. In Q3, there were more than 1.4 million Ford Focuses still left on the road, versus 169K 307s. Even as new cars, the electrics in a 307 were a dangerous joke, especially the convertible hardtops. They were heavy, wallowing cheap tat.
@cmagennis927
@cmagennis927 6 жыл бұрын
BritishCommentWriter BritishCommentWriter The Focus is made from 1998 to date, so I’d like to think there’s 1.4 million Focus’s still on the road.. Narrow your search down to Mk1 Focus and there’ll not even be 50k left on the road. The only good thing about a Focus was how it drove, everything else was lacklustre and crap. Sales figures also don’t dictate how good a car is long term, 307’s last longer because they’re a sturdier built car using more reliable engines and they don’t rust. Try finding a Ford older than 10 year without rust! I’ve owned a 2001 307 HDI with 300k miles and absolutely no rust anywhere! Early cars suffered from electrical issues, big fucking deal, they were the first of the hatches to use a CANBUS electrical system so everything has teething issues at first, all issues were soon ironed out with recalls.

Anyhow, as many of your other commenters have contested, 307s can be great daily drivers. I'm now on my second facelift one, having run the first one for 10 years, both in high trim levels and both with the 1.6 hdi lump. I put it to you that it's time you had another go. Want to take mine out for a spin before they disappear from the roads altogether? Regards, James.

The bmw leaking coolant, leaky stem valve seals, driver heater core stopped working. The stereo lcd screen can't take the heat and start going blank. That bmw is a piece of shit of a design while the peugeot drives perfect only changes are wear and tear consumables. After changing the peugeot's clutch and fly wheel the car is a very good drive and zippy.

It's not the most powerful car but with 110hp it's enought for the everyday use. I understand that you can find it boring. It's not a car for car lovers but car users. Next time you choose to knock a car’s credibility why not find one that’s been looked after and clearly serviced regularly.

@@damiann4734 Hi Damian. I sold the Pug about 3 years ago. It was a great car. The only company that I know that you can revert back to original settings is the Racechip. Check if they do one for the 307.

Excellent. That's it. Excellent. If I still had my Vauxhall Signum, I'd invite you to review it - Almost the polar opposite of the 307... I think it actually looked good, it had all the leather, electric doo-dahs, etc. and was a comfy, clean and pleasant place to be. But barely ran. And when it did, it drank petrol like a staggering drunk and covered ground at about the same speed. Never again.

My dad had the 2001 model, sold it in 2013. Wasn’t the most reliable car. But I grew up with it and still miss it. It wasn’t fast, you could hear every bolt shaking while driving 200+/- knh. But it was a nice car to drive in and it was very comfy. Not as the c6 and 607 tho.

✡ CSGO ALFA Its amazing how a few decent cars (205 GTi, 405 GTi, 106 GTi ect..) by Peugeot can warrant about 20 years of forgiveness from the public. We all like the brand and we want Peugeot to survive. It’s great they’re finally pulling themselves out of the rough patch they’ve been sitting in for a while.

I always wonder how cars get to this point...I mean, some 15 years ago someone spent a rather large portion of their income to buy this car new - and almost instantly neglected it. Even if you do not care for cars at all...I’m not a particular sucker for sinks, bookshelves or pillows either, yet I clean, repair or wash them every now and then?! On a side note I found the 307 when new a rather good car, especially considering all the space, decent engines and available features you could get for your money. Only downfall was that the head- and taillights would constantly blow out...watch for it: Every single one you see has at least one blown out light!

Fabian R Yeah, I've replaced the rears on this several times. My uncle owned it before my mum, it shows the signs of being used to raise three children, and my mother just doesn't get cars. As long as it goes from a to b, that's all she cares about.

Well as it's confession time i should say i bought one of these cars as something to deal with winter. Same spec, same age, and similar mileage. I have to say there is a measure of logic in doing just the bare minimum to keep them running- simply because they are still just as grisly with 4 matching tyres and clean bodywork! Making one smart is akin to having an uber-expensive respray on a 1980's Beetle- you are still only left with a Beetle- and an empty wallet, at the end. I can't say i spent too much buying the thing as it was a sensible 350GBP, and the seller was honest. I knew it was a shed, he knew it was a shed; nuff said. The engine sounds nice, i agree with that one. On mine it doesn't do a lot until you get over 3,200rpm, i thought this was camshaft design related (and 16valve sluggishness) but this, i think, is only part of the story- it also appears the logic systems for the ignition timing and the injection pulses make up their own mind of what they should be doing, which is sometimes independent of coolant temp, ambient temp, vacuum, throttle position, engine speed and all the other factors which you would hope they act on! The switch stalks behind the steering wheel sit in a computer assembly called a DAVCOM 2000, which sounds like a cut-price Terminator.. come to think of it, it does seem to have the purpose of killing humans, as when the indicator spigot wears- which it does very quickly- a right hand indication doesn't just cancel, it flicks over to a left hand indication- at staggered junctions this means someone pulls out in front of you, and you crash. I fixed this problem straight away, £5 spigot off ebay, power off, airbag off, davcomm off, change spigot and reassemble. Reverse gear is rather flimsy on these cars; it is easy to loose or chip a tooth and once this has happened it can jump out of gear and chip the next tooth along if you're not careful. You have to hold it in reverse to be sure. Not as easy as it sounds.. The one time that the car simply refused to start, the problem was the crankshaft position sensor having gone high resistance. This meant no ignition, no fuel injection, you are walking home. There is, of course, no double redundancy, if it fails you are stuck. I crushed the old one to see if corrosion had caused it, and it was nice and shiny.....so why has a 500ohm coil of wire round a magnet failed in use..? It could be that it couldn't stand being attached to a Peugeot any more and committed suicide. The castings for the exhaust manifold are routinely of poor quality. Mine was cracked and having fitted a s/h one i expected the new lambda sensor and leak-free manifold to cure the kangaroo take-offs. Did it? Did it bottoms. To reliably pull away sharpish you still need 1,800rpm to avoid lurching like a 12 year old car thief. Did i mention these cars get through an unseemly amount of bulbs? The multi-function display defaults to German at random times, and the after-market radio had to be removed as it got engaged in an insoluble argument with the BSI whereby the radio simply decided to switch on at 0300 a la Christine, and flatten the battery. If you sneeze near the car the Eco Mode activates, but this is 'normal'. Oh god- the car still actually works after 2yrs- i may have to give it the Christine treatment simply in order to kill it. It's a tryer, i'll give it that..
