Wait wait wait, there last Pi day there was the entirety of Pi written out in time based on our time scale. On 3-14-15 at 9:26 and 53.589753... There was the exact Pi for an infinitesimally small moment in time. THERE IS NO NEED TO ROUND UP TO 6! WE HAD ALL OF PI!

+Kai Widman Well yes. And no. Depends on your physical definition of time. Why would you count in anything smaller than the time unit that light needs to travel one planck length? (aka 1 Planck time) Would that even be possible? Probably not. So we are left with just about 50 digits of pi.

this video video was very entertaining and your enthusiasm towards the number was a very helpful way to stay focused on the video. I liked how your side of the argument on pi is based of off facts that 3416 is actually closed to the number pi actually is. What confused me is that I have never heard of tau before. Other then that the video was very easy to comprehend. What inspired me about it is that I’ve always thought that pie was 3415 I’ve never really payed much attention to the digit after the 5. I’m glad that I have watched this video so if anyone ever asks me what pi is I can say it’s closer to 3416 then 3415

In 6th grade Accelerated, when we were doing some circle stuff, We did 2Pi(r). Everyone else just did pi(d). I always did tau(r). ANd since we rounded pi, I used 6.28, my teacher was confused and says that I was the first one to ever do that. I feel proud.

hkkomori Because you can extend it to however long you like, and that time would have occurred. It could be 9:26 and 53.589793238 seconds, or however specific you wanted it to be. But that time happened in the 53rd second, not the 54th.

Umm, Pi Day last year actually was the perfect pi day. We've alreay got 3.1415, but we actually have everything else as well. On the 9'nth hour of pi day, we got 3.14159. The 1st minute of the 9'nth hour gave us 3.14159. The second second of that minute gave us 3.141592. The 6th millisecond of that gave us 3.1415926. It keeps on going on, we split up that millisecond, microsecond, the nanosecond, and we continue splitting up smaller and smaller periods of time. We go down to periods of time so minuscule we don't have words for them, and even though we aren't able to measure these ever so tiny periods in time, every digit of pi still exists in these moments. So yeah, sorry to tell you Vi Hart, but last year actually was the perfect pi day.

My elemental school teacher always taught us Pi as 3.1416 and encouraged us to use that as number as Pi. Much later she told us it wasn't actually 3.1416, but 3.141592...(ad infinity), but rounding it up was way easier AND slightly more accurate than cutting off after the 5. Then calculators happened and we all forgot about that.

tbh on 3/14/15 at 9:26:53,*all other pi digits here* we had the actual representation of pi in date + time representation, for an infinitesimal instant of time. That's why last year's pi day was awesome and this year's is just... mere rounding up u.u
