Trip 4 2 Australia

Күн бұрын

On this weeks episode we leave the Grawin Opals Fields behind and head towards Brewarrina in Northwest New South Wales where we set up at a free camp on the banks of the Barwon River for a few days. We use this as our base to explore the ancient area, steeped in modern and First Nations history.
Brewarrina is home to some fairly awesome fishing in the Barwon Darling River system but most importantly it’s home to potentially the oldest man made structure on earth, the Brewarrina Fish Traps or Baiame’s Ngunnhu as they are traditionally named. Archeologists can’t agree on their exact age but they are thought to be somewhere between 3 - 40000 years old.
During our travels we have spent many nights alone in free camps in some beautiful and remote locations but this camp on the outskirts of Brewarrina gave us goosebumps, as Steve said we “FELT A DISTURBANCE IN THE FORCE”. Even though we felt safe enough there was just something that had us on edge.
Next we head to Bourke to another free camp called Mays Bend……well almost? We decided to stop in at the Information Centre to get some info on the local attractions when we were told that the free camp was currently closed due to recent rain and localised flooding in the area, so we end up at a fantastic caravan park called Kidmans Camp on the north side of town.
Our original plan was to come to Burke just to say that we’ve been to the back of Bourke but upon arrival we discovered so much more and so much history in this little town in the far north west of New South Wales, from famous Australian Poets, local legends and Australian Icons to a once thriving wool industry, this town has it all. In the words of Henry Lawson “ If you know Bourke, you know Australia”.
So grab yourself a cold drink, sit back and relax for the next 20 minutes or so, and join Allison and I as we continue our adventures around Australia.
Ally and I would like to thank you all for your wonderful support to our channel and a HUGE WELCOME to all of our new SUBSCRIBERS.
If you’re new to our channel why not consider LIKING & SUBSCRIBING and please as always leave us a COMMENT and let us know what you thought about the video.

Absolutely loving your channel. My late husband and I used to regularly camp in reasonably remote areas. Can't tell you how much I miss it. Whenever we went to an area where other people camped and had left rubbish lying around, we would spend an hour picking it all up to clean the area before we left. In some areas we'd collect a couple of plastic bags full of rubbish. Absolute pigs. Hate to think what their places are like. Used to really, really, pee us off. And you are dead right. Areas get locked off because of ferals leaving rubbish and damaging areas, lighting fires where they shouldn't etc. Can't wait to see the next episode! Thank you both so much.

I used to live in Bourke just down the road from Bre. You need to take into consideration the crime rates in the district are very high. It is best to camp at least 20 kms from these towns to deter the locals from breaking into your vehicles etc. In Bourke especially never leave your vehicle unattended & keep it locked at all times.
@trip42australia
@trip42australia 6 ай бұрын
Yes we were definitely warned about that and we had some weird experiences like someone was watching us in Bre as well as a lot of strange car movements late at night in the camp area. As a rule we lock everything every time it’s not in use as we hear so many stories on the road. Bourke was ok when we were there but we did stay out of town at Kidmans camp. The young lady there also advised us lock up.

In the seventies, we camped on Murray and Darling rivers, caught carp and ate them, as you couldn’t catch much else. They can be a good tasting fish, you need to put them in some clearer water as they can taste a little muddy due to eating from the bottom of river, roots etc, but rinsing them in a clearer water works, we would place them in net bags to swim on river edge for a few hours just tie bag to sturdy stick anchored in ground. Also to remove small y bones, skin the fish from the tail end and pull up towards the head, this will help remove more of the bones.

Gidday guys, just found your channel this morning when looking at notch point and I must say you do a great job, so much imfo. I was wondering if you had ever been to Charters towers as that place would suit your style to a tee. I am subscribing because of how much information is offered and because of how easy you are to listen to, I know how hard is talking to a camera because I sound like a knuckle head on my fishing vids. Cheers.

Interesting always great seeing this great nation also interesting how the “experts” come up with dates of things. I find it hard to believe that something in a river that floods every so often and knowing the force of flood waters, and the silt left behind after a flood, can be dated at 40,000 years. The river has changed course a few times in that time period also. But good views

At 7:59 had beer bottles thrown at car in the early 80’s at that spot. Abo’s we’re rioting. Mum was driving. I looked back to see a beautiful throw of a VB bottle that arced over to smack perfectly on the tow ball. Glass everywhere. Came back next day, everything was fine. We all chatted to the local Abos about the night before…nothing, amnesia, all was good, everybody’s happy. Sweet!

@trip42australia
@trip42australia 6 ай бұрын
Hello. We check the relevant states traffic reports for road closures etc for example RACQ. Google maps now shows a lot of road conditions and provides warnings about road conditions on your selected route. We talk to fellow travellers and normally pop into the local info centre as well. Most roads that are 4WD suitable only are well sign posted. I hope this helps
