I really wish the Lightning didnt get screwed by gaijin. There were reports of a competition between the F-104 and Lightning. The lightning was faster in climb, faster at high alt, had better interception rate. And manouvered better. Only place it didnt perform better? Low altitude. And that was still a close one.

Only the SMT is any trouble, the MiG-21F-13 is slower and has worse energy retention than the MiG-19, which is the true bane of pencils as it doesn't bleed all of its speed chasing F-104s into space (and the higher you go, the easier time the knockoff sidewinders will have catching your hot engine)

The Japanese F104 is slightly better. At 10.3, you get AIM 9 Ps, and it rarely gets uptiered or even put at its own tier Fighting MiG-15s with 6 AIM 9s is amazing

And how did you saw an mig-15 even before they were 8.7 at much and 9.3 for the shengyang F-5 (Wich I don't remember if is an mig-15 or 17) I would argue that f-104A and C are better because the whole 1 down BR

Nah, maybe IRL, idk, but in-game the Red Tops are pretty trash (sluggish/slow with a high warhead). As a UK main I prefer 9B.

This is my main, almost all my SL comes from this plane. You outrun every missile at mach1 at 1.5km range except magic maybe even if its a complete uptier

I wanna see someone make a fictional super sonic heavy attack aircraft for this or another similar game. It can rocket by at mach 1-3 with multiple auto cannons or rotary cannons. Maybe even that crazy 180mm automatic tank cannon from the April fools. Put 4 of them on it. Just designed to zip by as fast as possible and pound with cannons.

the F-104 is one of the only truly OP planes in war thunder, if you play your cards right you’re legitimately invincible, especially with the F-104C which is a direct upgrade at the exact same BR

@@timmycrockett3348 You can't be caught or fired at by half the lobby at your normal BR, you're more than capable in an uptier, and you're a literal god in a match that doesn't have enemy 104s or MiG-19s. You can also dogfight MiG-19s at high altitude if you know what you're doing, and they have to go high altitude to get you since they don't have long range missiles at that BR.

It SHOULD be a nightmare to fly, especially at low level and landing. I can't remember how many Luftwaffe pilots died flying this in peacetime, but it's a huge number: something between 40 and 100.
