In todays video I raced a 1500m which for me was very different from the usual marathon distance- some 28 times longer lol. As i transition from being self-coached to coached, this was more of a training/testing experiment to figure out my current strenghts/weaknesses but, rather surprisingly, i really enjoyed it. Feel like i may need one more crack at it this season to try and break SUB 4.

Only 8mmol after the 1500m? I think you can do close to 3:50 with 3 weeks of moderate volume and specific work! Love from Norway @benisrunning

Yes I agree. It’s more of a testing procedure than making 1500m the focus as much as I would love to go under 4. Looking ahead to the marathon towards the end of the year as the main goal

how do you draw blood for the lactate test? do you have those lancet things? does the lactate strip touch your skin at all? if yes then you'll get mixed results

Yes it pin pricks your finger and no touching ideally. You also have to make sure your fingers dry so that wasn’t easy in the pouring rain 😂

My no spoilers prediction is close to if not break 4 minutes in the 1500m. And then maybe it's a bit of a stretch, but maybe sub 9 minutes for a 3k after the 1500m. Edit: Heyy I was bang on with the 1500m, and I was right for the 3k, sub 9 minutes after the 1500m, that's ridiculous! You can defitinitely break 4 minutes in the 1500m with some more speed work, and probably even 4 minutes in the mile, (3:59 1500m is right around 4:16 or so for a mile), and who knows, maybe you can train to break 8 minutes in the 3k? It might be a bit difficult, but even if you don't plan on trying to do that, 8:29 for a pr is still amazing, a time that I would LOVE to have for a 2 mile sometime, and sub 4 minute mile for me sometime I would LOVE those times, that's my dream goals anyways. Keep up the amazing work Ben!

8 is very high lactate,, but normal after a max effort... treshold often about 3,5..

Not quite the fastest 1500 in a hat. Dave Wottle - Olympic 800 champion in 1972 - raced in a hat and ran a 3:52 mile in 1973 so you have some way to go!
