Best drivetribe video in a long long time. Once again Richard Hammond proving why he's one of the best in the business.

Richie absolutely nails that bittersweet feeling of nostalgia. I love hearing him speak so passionately about the Lake District.

I have so much respect for Richard. The manner in which he views the world is touching and humbling. He’s a guy I could get a pint with once a week and genuinely look forward to it each time.

There is an underrated dynamic with Richard and Mike. Their personalities have a certain similarity that gives the impression this could be a generational hand-off in the making, but nobody seems to be working too hard to over-sell that. While there will obviously never be anything to match "the trio" again (no matter how many times that formula gets beaten again and again) this opens up a new dynamic that is at once familiar and refreshing. I can see a real possibility that Mike emerges as a star in his own right. Here's to the ongoing success and evolution of the rebooted Drivetribe.

Jeremy’s a farmer, Richard and James are wise uncles guiding some absolutely grand youngsters in a better understanding of the things they love. The more these gentlemen reveal their true selves, the more respect and admiration I feel.

Richard is such a veteran in front of a camera, you can tell he's been doing this for decades. Doesn't need gimmicks or fancy stunts to make compelling television - just him talking off the cuff by himself in a car.

This is what I miss the most, the monologues that carry such passion, nostalgia and emotion. It is what made Top Gear more than just a "car show" because for them driving and cars were deeply intertwined with who they are as humans. Drove this route to Buttermere today, after watching this video a while back, and oh… my… goodness! Definitely not a road for ‘enthusiastic’ driving; that would be foolish and wasteful. This is a road to take gently and to just savour. The view as you crest the peak and see the valley stretching down to Buttermere is utterly stunning, utterly spectacular, and I can see why it might bring Richard or anyone to tears. And both the village of Buttermere itself and the views around it are simply beautiful. Topped by glorious weather and a lovely lunch in the village, with a return via Newlands Pass, this made for a memorable day out.

That Grand Tour feel with more heart, less chaos. A delightful time.

The A5 between Betws-y-coed and Bethesda and the road that ventures off to Llanberis is a scenic route that I always immerse myself in. Can't beat a drive through the mountains, slightly planting your foot.

It's really interesting to see the type of content that the original trio makes once they are on their own. Jeremy's shows boil down to Clarkson Breaks Things and Annoys People. James makes programs that might as well be called May Faffs About With Fiddly Details. And I find all of those to be quite entertaining. Richard somehow manages to be the one with soul. Love of cars for their own sake, and the beautiful places they take us, both physically and emotionally. Thanks for sharing such great content. Looking forward to superchargers rounding corners next time.

My favourite road ever is the Bealach Na Ba in Scotland. Leads to Applecross. My late dad worked in Applecross as a telecom engineer for a few months. He was from Salisbury. He died in 2010. So as a mark of respect as a massive petrol head I chose to cycle up it. Jesus. Months of training saw me to the top. But what a road. Supremely beautiful and awe inspiring. Brought back so many emotions........ 😊 A road needn't be a speed and handling, as Richard said a road is about arriving and memories. ❤

That piece is one of the best bits of short film making I've watched in a long time. As someone who lives in the lakes it made me emotional listening to Richard describe how it makes you feel..... And he is absolutely spot on.

I have been watching Richard's show for years. I never missed the TOP GEAR episode and all the Grand Tours. I am glad that Richard got to drive his Jaguar XJR again. It is a truly a privilege to drive the XJR. I am a Jaguar XJR fan, my garage is 100% Jag right now. I have owned 4 XJRs but I only have 1 left since I sold the 3. Now there is the XJR and XKR in the garage.

Absolutely nothing beats the ticking of a hot car after a long drive. Coming from a long trip, Johannesburg to Welkom and back, for those who know. The standout memory was going into a petrol station, parking my Opel/Vauxhaul Astra OPC/VXR and listening to the pops and tings from the underneath of the car.

I can absolutely relate to Richard. How many of you viewers have a place like that in your life and love the feeling you get drive on the road that takes you there?

Shows you, the world's gotten so big, that you actually have to savor the bits of it with little in it. No traffic, no loud machinery, no noise at all, just serene comfort.

Richard and I are about the same age, and when *I* was 17, I went for a three-week trip to England with my parents. None of us had ever been. For the third week, Dad hired a car (just a Ford of some sort, but it suited our needs and had a sunroof, which in the mid-80s seemed like a bit of luxury), and we drove from London up to the Lakes. One day we drove from Bowness to Ravenglass, and on the way back, took a look at the map and decided to take Hardknott Pass. That's bit south of Richard's road and I'm not in a position to compare the two, but nearly four decades later I still remember that drive, from the scenery to the Roman ruins up at the top to the experience of driving up a 30% grade on a single-lane road, not being able to see the road past the front of the car. Lovely. If I ever get a chance to get back to the Lakes I'll have to give Richard's road a try.

I think can understand Richard's point of view.... it's a road that whether you drive on it in a lambo or in your granpa's car will always speak to you; it's not the car per se that makes you feel something, but it's the road itself. The car it's just there to be the interpreter. Or at least it's my way of looking at it. Great great video

I live about 20 minutes away from this and honestly, sometimes I just don’t realise how grateful I should be to live near such a mesmerising place. It truly is a fantastic area with some great roads (although.. some of them could do with being re-tarmac’d!)

The Lake District is one of the most beautiful landscapes in the entire world, throughout Cumbria North West England. Windermere is incredible. Through to the Scottish Borders & beyond is an amazing drive.

I had a similar experience this Monday. A freaky sidewall puncture in Massachusetts USA. So, strangely I have now bonded with Richard, my favorite car TV presenter.

Our favourite road too. Just us and our dogs in our campervan. We often park up just before the slate mine, put the kettle on, make a brew, and yes, we admit to shedding a tear or two too whenever we visit.

I'm with Hammond..... Just love that road, always take the drive when up in the lakes and stop at the quarry cafe (if open) to take in that impressive view.

This film is just magnificent. The feelings Richard evokes while speaking about the lake district in the three videos DT has done with him there are just so raw and genuine. For all the beauty and scenery in this video, I find myself not focusing on the views around Mike and Richard, but thinking about driving through the mountains of New Hampshire. Feeling the same emotions about youth and uncertainty. This is just brilliant content. Between the lake district films and the one where he's showing his daughters old playroom and him speaking about the jet car crash, I've just been enthralled and weepy. Richards seeming comfort in his aging and the fond look back on very personal parts of his life with us viewers is just wonderful. I never would have thought the Drivetribe YT channel could be such a special place for me.

Hammond's favourite road reminds me of the Forest of Bowland road in Lancashire that I use to drive along to escape the stress of uni, coupled with my dad dying of cancer, when I lived in Preston, so many similarities. It doesn't even matter you can only do like 30-40 mph max down it, it's the twists, the narrowness, the scenery, the up and down the gears, I always felt really clear minded by the time I got to the Lancaster end of it, then just cruised back down the M6 home. I do miss living up there sometimes as it was on my doorstep, where I live now, the back roads are like living in the Netherlands.

Last year when My wife from Rotherham took my mom and I from Michigan to visit England. I was my 5th time being and my mothers first. We went to Buttermere. Drove the exact same route. I was nervous as being American I’m not spouse to such small roads. Yet, I managed to not blow a tire out life Hammond did😂😂😂. Loved it there. Only spent a day but will return in the near future.

Missed this stuff from Hammond I miss these days from all 3 of them

TG was monumental fun but the further the trio get from 'that' - the more of their depth we are allowed to see, the quality of their reading, their thinking, what matters to them beyond going round corners fast. The depth in them that we only see now is part of why TG was so awesome. There was always something extra going on between them. As an Aussie visitor I can attest, the Lakes District has a lot of gorgeous roads, fun to drive on even without any "push".

Just arrived in the Lake District with my partner, and we are determined to do this road tomorrow! Can't wait, thank you Drivetribe

I'm from Scotland and go up north to the highlands a few times a year. These type of roads are fantastic and it's true that you can't drive like a madman on them, they force you to amble along taking it all in and it puts you so much more in touch with the environment, makes you appreciate things you wouldn't ordinarily think about.

Probably my favorite Drivetribe video. Absolutely stunning. I would like to think that we've all got a similar road experience. For me, when I lived in the Half Moon Bay area of California, the road was the 92 going west over the mountains to the Pacific coast and the Pacific Coast Highway 1. The first half is all uphill, lots of hairpin turns. When you reach the top, you can see the Pacific way down in the distance. Downhill the rest of the way into beautiful nurseries, and then to Half Moon Bay and the PCH. Last time I drove it was probably 25 years ago. I'd love to go back with a proper car and relive it.

Thanks guys, I was quite moved by what Hammond said about being 17. I’m at that point at the moment and hearing an adult talk about it was very thought provoking.

I can totally relate to Richard here. The stretch of highway that starts in Whiteshell Provincial Park in Manitoba (Canada) and goes through Lake Of The Woods to Kenora, Ontario gives me similar feels. That might just be "my road" in the same respect. The scenery is amazing, and you're limited to 90 km/hr, so you have time to soak it it. Loved this video, the dynamic between the two is genuine and it's fantastic - honestly one of the best videos released on this channel.

It reminds me of the mountains in New Hampshire USA. Mountain Washington and Franconia Notch are absolutely stunning and I am sure Richard agrees.
