Texture would be a good distinctive other layer of solving. It would provide some logistic difficulties (stickers on top of a 'fuzzy' side, or 3D-modeling ridges and putting stickers on top of that, for instance), but depending on the type of texture it could work. Or individual piece shape on top instead of texture. Make the top a flat disc on one side, a flat triangle on another, a flat square on a third, etc.

There already is a "sticker less" mirror cube called the horror mirror cube, it's not on the cubicle nor speed cube shop but it is on other online stores

I remember Vsauce making a short about this to promote his Curiosity box, but it only has 3 different solved positions (color, height, and patterns)

you could do textures as one of the solutions (Bumpy, Smooth, Zig-Zag) similar to the blind Rubik's Cube

I thought of a way to add 1 more solution. Remember when you took the pieces off of a treasure chest cube (I forgot what it's called) and mixed them up so that it would only open in a certain scrambled position. Well do that for 1 more solution.

I enjoy your innovative ideas. In your shoes the only thing I would do different was to put smaller big stickers, in order to be easier to see the stickerlss colors.

So you could do texture and probably even heat conductivity separately. You could also do sticker size, or even create sets of qualities that can be grouped differently by having more than six options

Write a number (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6) on each of the shapes on the pieces for another solution!

1-height 2-color 3-shape(the shapes on all of the stickers) 4-pattern(make a pattern on each face) 5-texture(the texture on all the stickers)

It doesn't really change the solution much, but switching the smallest sticker set to a different color scheme altogether would make it easier to see the actual shapes. Even a different shade

Five different unique solutions is pretty wild!! Theres got to be more variables that can be added for additional solved states. Textures or surface patterns might be one. Maybe scratch and sniff stickers need to make a comeback

Add dimples and bumps to the cube to differentiate like braille. Tactile could be one of the other two differences

Hmmm... with textures you could have a flat side, a criss cross side, vertical / horizontal side, diagonal lined side, small bumps (say 1mm per bump) and large bumps (say 3mm per bump). You might have problems stickering it, but it would give a different solve. Could also do other textures, like a divot side as an example. Many options, but you would likely need to 3D custom caps, and it would reduce the sticker ability.

technically there's around 16,400 solutions since the center caps can typically be rotated... ;) awesome concept

You should add numbers as it would make it match the number and the color. But you could also make it so that it’s possible to have 1-9 all on each side kinda like sudoku.

"Finish" could be a variable, like gloss, matte, mirrored, 'brushed metal', some sort of holofoil pattern, and uhhhhhh a sixth one too.

You could put some fabric on the pieces that have different feels and you could make some different bumps on the pieces like a cube that is made for blindfold solves (I forgot the name)

I really like the idea behind this, and the initial customized mirror cube was pretty awesome, but your stickers were definitely too big, ruining the stickerless solve. Also, you should've done some manual changes to prevent the 'all same color' ones. Truly random doesn't make it more fun than intentional design. I was thinking you would make the bigger stickers in the different shapes with different colors. From there, a black design could be put on each sticker (like a small symbol in the center, or stripes, or spotted, or zigzag, etc.). Then you would only have a single sticker on each side of each piece (small enough to not drown out the stickerless color), but each sticker would have three aspects to it (the shape, color, and design).

I have idea. We start with the height, then what color the stickers are, then what shape the stickers are, then how many stockers there are, then what pattern the stickers are filled with. Basically we turn the stickers into SET cards.

Hmm, maybe if you went around each of the shape stickers with a fine tip black marker it might make matching by the shape's color more obvious as you could focus on what is inside the black outline. It would also make it more obvious for the times when the color of the two stickers match. I'm sure while holding it, it is easier to tell them apart, but on camera the shapes basically just vanish.

maybe another way to distinguish the pieces could be their brightness? Like when solving normally, one side would still be red for example, but some parts lighter red and some parts darker red. But I am not sure how well you could distinguish between the different brightnesses. Like to know which light blue goes with which light red, etc.

so maybe the other to factors to solve the cube can be texture/material and somehow if you can use sound like tiny speakers inside then that play a specific note when pressed a button on top but trhat might be impossible

I would’ve put some sort of mark on the cubes that are entirely one color, but maybe that’d be a handicap. I can’t do Rubik’s cubes like you… or at all. lol But I have played The Witness and MYST among other puzzle games so I enjoyed this video 🙂

Texture! There are some cubes for blind people where each side has a different pattern in the texture - spots or lines, for instance. I don't know how you'd be able to put stickers over that but texture is another pretty obvious way to solve or scramble a cube.

Have you considered buying a Cricut machine? Would be a much faster and consistent way to cut the stickers. Plus you would able to get the perfect size based on your CAD model. Cool video

You could cut out an L shape on the corners and a straight line on the edges so in that solved state, the lines could be connected like a snake (I think having a square on each side is easier to make but also easier to solve as there are multiple solutions)? You can probably even imitate the Sudoku cube which would have only one solution. That way there are less stickers competing for colour.

I stopped speed cubing 5 years ago, i still have my gans 356 (the first one) i always loved my moyu hualong a bit more, i still can't solve my ghost cube and I'm still crazy fast on pyraminx and mirror cube 3x3 and 2x2

I think that the stickerless solution is the hardest to see. I think that the stickers are just a little too big to be able to easily tell.
