Part of the RV life is trying to figure out what you can fix yourself, and then when your deep in it and need professional help. We did a shakedown Cruise of RV after being stored for the winter. Used the RV for a week then went to the dump station and the black tank valve would not open. No matter what I did it would not open. It was a full black tank. Fortunately the dealership that we bought it from got us in within a matter of a couple days and a week later had the valve fixed. In that case the cable had become unattached to the valve. What I learned was water can drip down on the valves stems and can cause them to rust inside the cable housing. So I always put some lithium grease on the shaft of the valve stem when it's pulled out. Then you push it in and out and it keeps things lubricated. Is amazing how it keeps it easy to move when you do that.

FYI, we had the exact same issue. This was my long term fix. The factory nuts that hold the valve assembly together are common nuts with a split washer. So they overnighted the at the factory, that is why it’s hard to pull the cable it’s in a bind. Stay with me here, remove said common nuts replace them with nylon lock nuts witch can be precisely tightened and won’t back off. Never had an issue since. Just what worked for me. Anyway love you guys!
@HappilyEverHanks2 жыл бұрын
Wow! This is very interesting Douglas, thank you for sharing this! We figured it was a bind that was occuring, but couldn't place our finger on what was causing it. We ended up buying a shorter black tank valve system to help with the binding as well and it seems to be doing ok thus far! Cheers!! :)

Hey from NC guys! We had a wonderful trip. We already have another trip planned for the same place, Memorial Day weekend. We did some kayaking and familiarized ourselves with the area and attractions. I had a few repairs to make when we got back home, a GFCI receptacle replaced and our refrigerator is not even trying to work. It's a 3 energy source unit and I'm gonna try to run it on propane tomorrow. Honestly, our Lifetime 64 cooler served us well for our 3 day trip and still had plenty of ice for 5 days total. Looks like your regained a handle on the knife valve! Had a couple of those get hard to operate, the slide tracks get build-up crud in them. (As you well know for sure now). Had a gray water valve handle that the O-Ring popped out of place, the handle stem shaft started dripping water. Putting a light coat of silicone grease on the stem helped from unseating the O-Ring from that replacement forward. Thanks for the RV repair memories.
@HappilyEverHanks2 жыл бұрын
That make sense, I think that is where we were running into the issue as well. That crud "gunks" up the system and continues to do so. We opted to get a shorter black tank valve system, in hopes to prevent any binding of the system. So far, so good! 😊

Yeah, mine started getting hard to push/pull, so I ripped it all out, put in new valves, and then hooked up motor actuators. Also flush the hell out of that black tank every time so that stuff doesn't mess with your valve seals when you close the valve.

I've Done this(bent the valve cable pushrod): on our grand design 2600rb...first it gets stiff to push in; then you ham fist it and it put a bend in, after white grease and sand papering off the scratches and burrs. I found if you take the "T" handle off, and slide the box end of a 7/16 combination wrench over the bent pushrod; you can pry and carefully apply pressure to the exact right spot to straighten out the bend.... I'm now much more focused, and careful when I (slowly)push the valve in. Because I'm not dropping the belly pan...

@@HappilyEverHanks Not really a comparable rig, of course. The GeoPro is made for boondocking, with high ground clearance and fairly simple systems. I can probably fix just about anything on it using the basic tools I carry with me (assuming I can find parts, of course). I'm about to spend 12 days in northern Arizona and southeastern Utah, 8 days of which will be with no hookups. I'm not even bringing my generator, but I can still use the microwave, coffee maker, etc. If I was going in July or August, I'd have to take it, so I could run the A/C.

In the first minute of the video, I thought it was going to be a crappy one. Nope it ended up being another great video. Love your attitudes and expressions. Not many videos do we not smile or laugh. Been watching Matt for quite some time also. If someone is looking for the Perfect Pooping Position, they need to watch Matt. Safe travels..

So glad that you got in the have it fixed quickly. It is such a good feeling to be able to let it rip smoothly. We just replaced our grey tank Valterra valve. Fred did not know his own strength and broke the pipe when trying to put in in. That was quite the fiasco.🤣 We had been trying the hacks too with no success. Great Video, have a wonderful weekend. So fun seeing you at our RV One dealer just a couple miles from our home. If you're ever in the area again you guys are welcome to sit by the pool, eat a home cooked meal and catch up on your laundry at our house! Enjoy you all, love to Dexter!

I’m happy you’ve had a good experience with rv one. I purchased my airstream in 2018 from rv one in Orlando. I had nothing but frustration from their service department getting warranty work done.

Nice job guys 👍🏼 Never fun messing with that stuff. I had to disassemble my grey tank pipes underneath by myself one time to replace things and fix a clog, luckily it was only grey water that shot all over me!🤢

Yikes, but still smelly! At least our grey water is!

I use an external valve also, but I also owe my two gray tanks open most of the time to allow for extra gray tank storage.

@@HappilyEverHanks My wife and I are newbies and we just picked up our new Redwood 5th wheel. During our walk through the worker pulled our black tank levers to show us how they work, we didn't realize he never closed them. As soon as we got to our first camp site, I installed a Vitara valve on the end of our sewage pipe after watching many videos on KZfaq. After camping for 3 days we noticed the tanks were opened and I had to laugh because if it wasn't for that purchase, my first black tank flush would have been a mess. We are so thankful for your videos, RVing would be a lot messier without them.

I believe I saw you guys headed north on I-95 around Daytona a while back, we were headed to Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Jupiter FL, you must have been heading to RVOne for this issue. Safe travels, love the videos. This area is my neck of the woods.

Wow that was awesome you got service so quickly! I’m glad your black tank works! I have to say I was a little nervous when you pulled the black tank lever! I got the image of robin Williams in the rv movie getting covered in black tank stuff! So glad it’s working for you!

You were lucky. RV One in SA is the worst place I’ve ever dealt with for service. Glad it worked out for you
