DEAR CVP's!
THIS SCENE BREAKS MY HEART AT THE BIRDMART! Exotic Bird Mart & Expo
I was at The trade show for bird lovers in Fairplex in Pomona, CA 2022.

@@CarolinvonPetzholdt I rescued a 29 year old harlequin. I am encouraged by your relationship with Glory. Wind was caged for 29 years. He's very frightened of everything. It took me months to get him out of the cage and several more to get him to let me touch him. He goes from loving to killer bird in 1 sec flat. It breaks my heart.

Oh my prior to scrolling comments at opening I paused the video to look at my husband and simply moan to him about the same! He comes from Pakistan where there are severe cases of avian trichomoniasis. The pain and slow death from oral obstruction is absolutely heart wrenching! Let’s not forget encephalitis that is contagious to humans 💔

@@Pandagurl218 Yes indeed. Hyacinths are more sensitive to respiratory problems than many other species as well. My African Grey will go with me at times on outings, where there is few people, and never EVER to a pet store or somewhere like this bird show. An unnecessary risk to the health of rare and expensive birds.

I was just thinking the same thing. Plus with COVID being airbourne, birds having incredibly sensitive respiratory tracts, and certain people not being adherent to masking policies... Not worth the risk. I don't even bring my snakes to reptiles expos. Too many chances of infections

Got to be careful you don’t bring disease home. I wouldn’t bring mine to a bird expose. You don’t know what disease could and possibly be there. Not worth infecting my parrots. Not everyone is honest about health of there parrots.

I wouldn’t dare expose my birds especially very delicate birds as you mentioned in the video to other birds with unknown health status especially bringing them that close to the other macaws. You always point out flaws from other people, maybe it’s time to relax and re think what you’re going to say. Also, why is Glory so puffed up? That would quickly make me schedule a check up. Agreed with the clipping, Carolin, I see it too many times when birds are clipped, and its no wonder that these birds get depressed and behavioural issues like plucking and injuries. Your birds are beautiful healthy and happy as all birds should be.

I got my Alexandrine baby a few years ago, he was severely clipped. Took nearly 3 years for his flight feathers to grow in properly. Took him another year to be able to fly. He's great now. Reluctant to fly sometimes, but he's becoming more and more eager. He's 5 years old now and flies around the house looking for me. He's learning recall now that he can land more accurately, he's landing on my hand or arm when he finds me. Knowing that he's interested, helps with training. Hopefully in a short time, I can have him free flying

It breaks my heart to see any of these beautifully amazing creatures in such tiny, cramped spaces. At the end of the video, the babies and the red mccaw barely had room to move. We recently had to say goodbye to our Sun Conure, and I could never have imagined putting him in such a tiny enclosure. I realize it’s a show but it makes me think about how they are treated outside of the show.

That's okay it only takes one lawsuit over an expensive bird and they will change that. However I do agree with you you shouldn't take your bird to bird shows because birds need to be quarantined for at least 30 days will they get to your home and it's best to change your clothes and take a shower when you get home put the clothes right down the laundry chute because PBFB is of serious concern

Not only is Hyacinth parrots the largest parrots but they are also endangered from both habitat loss and over collection for the pet trade. It is really very sad. Glad I found your channel. I loooooove ❤️❤️❤️ all birds. I had a rescued mourning dove 🕊 (she passed away April 2020😢) and I miss her so much. She was my best friend. Eventually I will get another bird. What’s a good starter bird since a dove isn’t a typical pet bird? I went to this Birt Mart Expo in Pleasanton, up north. My son wanted the umbrella cockatoo that was there ( it was such a sweetheart) but it’s a big responsibility and we have 4 cats and he works full time. Someday, so I’ll just have to enjoy them on your channel. Thanks for sharing your experience at the bird mart. I had to add this in… no the cats didn’t get to my dove. Thank you for watching my videos. And welcome to my channel. Yes birds are lots of work. Wow! 4 cats!!! The cockatoo would have been the boss around cats. It’s a medium size bird and a bird that size can keep a cat in check. Now with little birds like budgies and cockatiels I would be more concerned. I just rescued a kitten. I have now 1 cat.

Beards often pluck or barber there's feathers when they are rehomed this is a good reason to never re-home your bird unless it's absolutely necessary and completely unavoidable. However all of my birds are rescues and they came to me plucked some severely plucked but they are getting their feathers back so it's not that big of an issue. "Look at all these birds! What do you think?" The macaws: "I don't know, Carolin, if you see some cows and sheep and maybe a dog and cat and I said 'look at all these mammals, what do you think?', would you feel a mutual connection to them? 11,000. That's how many species of birds there are, Carolin. We're not even the same species, so it'd be like you getting jazzed over a rat because it's also a mammal - we birds are just as distantly related from some other bird species as you are from a hamster, CAROLIN!" Kidding! But I do find it funny when I see people say things like "I don't want to eat chicken in front of my bird" as if it's any different from an owl eating a mouse (also a mammal, like us) in front of a human! Birds are incredibly diverse - more so by far than mammals - yet people tend to forget that despite them having similar adaptations (you have to, to fly - it's physics) - feathers, beaks to save weight on teeth and heavy jaws, feet built for gripping branches when they and in trees, etc - they are often just as distinct from each other as we are from our dogs and cats. A chicken, a finch , a falcon and parrot are really not closely related at all - and in fact chickens and ducks' last common ancestor lived in the Cretaceous, more than 66 million years ago, when dinosaurs still roamed! ;) I'm not faulting you on that, mind you - I just think people who don't spend time with birds really don't understand birds at ALL! Gorgeous birds! The guy at the entrance trying to buy them clearly doesn't know how crazy expensive hyacinths are! My wife would never allow it though - she'd be terrified of them and hates birds :( I BARELY gt her to be ok with budgies and a cockatiel! FYI I fully agree on clipping - my mindset is, if someone can't give them space to fly around and be birds, hey have NO business keeping a bird. They evolved for over 150 million years to FLY, not sit in a cage. VERY few people who have birds actually should - the vast majority just end up stuffing them in a cage all day and shouting at them or covering them up for being themselves. Anyone who does not let a bird have AMPLE space to fly around has zero place having one - I will always stand firm on that. MY birds have always been kept out, and often they'll come sit on me whatever I'm doing, and it's bliss. Let birbs be birbs!

So irresponsible. You are risking your birds health. And the fact you let them get close enough to a strange bird to the point they nipped each other.
