When he screams at the end, hit me right in the heart when I first saw this episode 15 years ago and when I just watched it now. I have had so many moments of pain and frustration like that, where I just screamed out in agony. OCD really is a monster, a monster that consumes your time and your happiness. The rub is the we all know that our obsessions and compulsions are irrational, but we still can't seem to stop doing them.

I sometimes get so angry with my compulsions, that the end really hits home. WHY? BRAIN!? Why do i have to get out of bed every hour and pace my house checking locks and looking under furniture!? Im tired. I just want to sleep without the fear of guilt over a failed responsibility! I just want to sleep!!

I find it helpful to keep a list of ERPs the client has done to remind them of their successes during times when they feel frustrated. They forget about their progress and are only seeing all the "what ifs" surrounding them and it appears overwhelming. I like this video and your explanation.

I'm experiencing the phase where I can just let my thoughts exist but have the feeling that they're in the back of my head, and it's very uncomfortable. I thought once I started to let them be, they would go away but without my OCD thoughts I forgot what I used to think about. Is this normal? Also, thank you so so much for all your amazing work, Nathan! I really appreciate it.

I can absolutely relate with this... I myself is traped in pattern of my just right ocd... And unfortunately that rules have become compulsory...I am a sound reader so there is a fear in my mind if i learn/read any topic of my study silently then that won't be consider as a study.. The feeling of disatisafaction and done nothing comes which makes me very anxious.... I can't study at library bcoz of this.... Currently i m facing big problems bcoz of this since 1yr.....i found solution which itself became compulsion....Living with ocd is really hard... My mind has made certain particular rules while studying for future also... It's getting worse day by day.. I m unable to break old patterns even after trying hard and in addition to that new patters and themes r getting added.. These kind of videos give relief just for some time and i m back to square one.... I sometimes feels i should die asap to escape from this OCD cycle...

My main ocd problem is hair pulling as i find ocd as a positive thing if controlled. I want to stop pulling my hair and only do it in private, mainly when bored and just sitting here. I want to say stressing about my financial situation causes this but still unsure specifically because so many thoughts run through my head. Your count down from 5,4,3,2,1 helps but find best thing to do is wash hair and L theanine may be helping. I believe minor hair pulling has been going on my whole life just became noticeable as a problem when lockdowns occurred. Any help or similar experience would be great.

I have tourettes(TS) & unfortunately a bit of OCD comes with it. I hav 2check certain things more than once. Not a certain amount of times or anything but I will check the doors quite a few times in a row 2c if there locked(of course I know I just checked them) or check my alarm over &over,ect. Anyways it's more of a until it feels right. Im lucky I don't think its extreme but it's there.

Worst parts are complex, long time consuming several compulsions that you have to accomplish in sequence. It’s not just feeling uncomfortable, it is almost as strong as feeling of losing Someone. This is painfully accurate. I do keep it secret and have all my life as well. I think it’s seasonal too. Gets worse at spring.

Hi Nathan! I'm a older teenager who just started seeing a therapist, and she's been mentioning she thinks I have OCD. I think so too, and when she was talking about treatment options she says she would use CBT and find out where these thoughts are coming from, validate them and teach how to cope with them. However, I don't believe the therapist specializes in OCD, and online sources say one's OCD therapist should be using ERP. You've been of great help to my symptoms, and I was wondering if you had any advice for my situation? Should I continue to see this therapist, or shoukd I look for an OCD therapist who uses ERP? Great video as always :) Update: I wasn't seeing any improvement with her so I am seeking out an OCD specialist. Thanks for everyone who replied :)
@jmp2586
@jmp2586 Жыл бұрын
How long have you been seeing your therapist? Do you feel any improvement regarding in your symptoms? I'm not a mental health professional but I've been diagnosed with ocd by two therapists and in my experience erp is what made me feel empowered and able to stop one of my compulsions. I suggest that you talk to your therapist about erp and if they don't start this type of treatment, look for someone else. The best case scenario is a ocd specialist, but if you can't find one, look for a cbt therapist.

@@jmp2586 thanks for the response! I've been seeing them for barely any time at all (not even a month), I've never had a therapist before and all I know about OCD is from my personal experience and the internet. I've had no improvement, but maybe that's because we just started. There was been one time I opened up to her about my most recent specific obsession, and how she responded was by reassuring me my fear wasn't true and then sympathized with me that it must be difficult to live with ever looming anxiety. While this would probably be comforting for someone with GAD, this doesn't particularly help OCD, so this made me question whether I should pursue a specialist instead. She specializes in anxiety and teaching people to embrace themselves for who they are, so while she's a great therapist I'm not sure if I should continue to see her for OCD.

Regarding touching things, I'm the complete opposite. I can't touch anything, especially when I'm in public places. I have this paranoid fear of leaving my fingerprints behind, or DNA or whatever. I wear gloves all the time, no matter how hot the weather gets. I can spend up to 30 minutes washing my hands each time, and if someone interrupts me I have to do it all over again. Someone on the internet told me recently that, I quote, "OCD is good". I've never wanted to punch someone so badly. But, well, people are just uneducated I guess.

Who goes around looking for people’s fingerprints everywhere unless at a crime scene where one would be involved? I’ve worked in retail for over 30 years and touch stuff all day, I’ve yet to come down with some horrid disease and no one has been dusting my fingerprints around the store and all the things I’ve touched, why would they need to? Who does that, that’s so unrealistic. What do you think a mysterious fingerprint dusting person would want/do with your DNA? You need to watch ocd videos for germ/cleanliness ocd and “what if” thinking. Nathan has many videos on different ocd subjects to help you out of this fear trap you’re in. 💕
