3 years…. this update was released 3 years ago… holy s*** it feels like this was yesterday

Honestly I think the Monkey Island updates were amazing as well, they just came out at the wrong time

I say this without hyperbole: this update changed my life. I got Sea of Thieves because of this update, made a timeline video covering both POTC and Sea of Thieves, and the rest was history. Thanks for taking me back and reminding me about how bloody cool this update was!

i understand people's gripes with the game, i have the same ones. however, my gaming habits are to pick a game and just continually play it. honestly, the issues it has dont really upset me the way it does for others.

I miss being as exited about sea of thieves as I was when this update launched.

We didn't realize they were recreating the ride, we were laughing so hard thinking rare just recorded the ride for the game.

I ended up riding the pirates of the Caribbean ride a year after a pirates life and it was incredible seeing everything sea of thieves made a reference to

This was such a special moment for Sea of thieves community, as the hints were going one way, insiders were getting any hints. I can still remember watching the trailers, hearing the PoTC theme and knowing this was going to be fun. Really wished they released them over time, like in Monkey Island, but you got one full story with the promise for more to come.

Great video. And placing it historically at the tail end of the pandemic really took me back. Sea of Thieves got me through that entire period. It was such an important escape. And way of connecting with friends (and occasionally raging with friends). A Pirates Life sealed it’s place in my heart.

It was during this Update that I ended up joining the game. I was convinced to get the game during the Steam Summer Sale of that year by a group of online friends I played TTRPGs with. I was reluctant at first, but came to enjoy the experience. Three years later, I'm now the only one from that group who still plays regularly. Honestly, we've kind of fallen out of touch with one another, so yeah...

Mfw Pirate's Life came out while I was still in my final years of high school and I picked this game up on the Steam sale, playing with friends during the evening after classes.. christ on a bike, where did that time go, and why does 2021 still feel like a few days ago. Pirate's Life was so magical, I remember talking with one of my American friends as she was watching E3 live and she started mass pinging me and we both started loosing our minds about the crossover reveal, playing through the tales was a blast and I adored the ending because it had such a heart-warming charm and beautiful resolution. I genuinely mourn the fact we may never see a Pirate's Life 2, but in some regards perhaps that's for the best, least for now anyways.

I just want rare to drop an update that has me generally excited to get on the game again instead of finding time to complete other things I haven't done yet

This crossover was a dream come true for our son! He still loves doing the TTs!

Pirates was the first TT i ever played on SoT and the Sunken Pearl is to this day hands down my fav TT of all time.

On the topic of the Cursed Captain, I've only recently realized that there's literally no reason we can't use his hat with the Skeleton Curse. It's already modeled for a skull.

I actually started playing Sea of Thieves just before they announced Pirate's Life and it was the hook that got me into the lore of Sea of Thieves. It just felt magical and I wish that I could feel that experience again (other than the bugs on the first week XD).

this just made me more sad about the current state of the game, i feel like its been in a rut for so long, i just want a good and genuine update with bug fixes, some good new content, and focusing on quality of life

I love that time when game was good, not only money milking cow from emporium, lovely days without 90% cheaters, without Rare behavior, just pirate game and good time. After that they started banning for no reason, behave like angry kids and only caring about money from emporium.

this update was everything for me. I had been playing since heart of fire, and I was so excited to see what the tablets were leading to, I thought there would be something about the old mother or some other thing, but when I found out it was a crossover with the franchise of my childhood I was awestruck. The trailer by itself is one of the most well made things out there, the music and visuals built so much suspense and in my head I kept going "wait... no it couldn't be, that's ridiculous!" and then. it actually happened. my brain had been fried. I was so excited I couldn't handle it. and when I finally got to play it and hear the audios from the ride I hadn't ridden since I was 12 I actually did cry a bit. Nostalgia is a powerful feeling. The moment I heard "burn bright accursed light..." that smile crept up my face so fast. When the Monkey Island crossover happened I was also very excited, but MI didn't have the same effect on my as a kid as Pirates of the Caribbean did. And the Captain reveal? are you kidding me? It got me so excited! That excitement for the story carried me all the way through to A Siren's Prize, where it was immediately rekindled by the Herald of the Flame teaser (even though that resurrection took forever...) This entire crossover really just amplified my appreciation for this game and all the work that goes into it, and because of that, I'm never going to stop obsessing over the story, making crazy theories of how the Dark Brethren are geniuses and actually have us all fooled, or making a giant lore document, or constantly checking the game and insiders to see if there's been any changes or hints. I'm just so passionate for this game because it became an escape for me at a really dark point, and I'm never gonna forget how much I appreciate it and the people that made it happen.

I loved the update, the ocean crawlers, the story, all of it. The only thing I'd change would be all the portals they put around the sea of thieves so players could go to the sea of the damned for the tall tale, once you finish the tales they just sort of sit there. Kinda in the way.

I absolutely love all the tall tales. They're probably my favorite thing to do, but I've put them off because I want to get my gold skelly before I play thru them 1 last time. I'm hoping to play thru with a natural progression, equipping the right skins for each tale. Got some levels to go sadly, hope I can get it soon

I wish the sailors grave had more of a purpose outside of the tall tale, it’s such a cool area and just seems like a waste that the only use for it. Also the area in tall tale 3, just so awesome it seems like a waste. It would be amazing for those areas to have another purpose.

A Pirate's Life is my favorite too. It has a lot more epic story and better action than the Shores of Gold.🏴‍☠️

Hottake: season 3 is really overrated. The lead up and initial announcement was awesome but all it did for the sea of thieves story was establish the dark brethren. It also added nothing to the sandbox except for 3 new enemy types. Don't get me wrong the tales are awesome but I don't think anyone could convince me the lesser updates for the months before season 3 were worth it. And I honestly prefer original sea of thieves tall tales over cross over ones.

honestly.. this tall tail was pretty boring for me. I struggled heavy to really get into the story and what was told. and it didn't help that the tall tail was basically the same as all the other tall tails, when it comes to how you proceed it. I got more into the legend of monkey island tall tail, cause it felt more unique and different compared to the rest. and it also had a lot more interesting characters in it.

I ended up loving the Pirate's Life tall tales, but I was one of the few people who actually got sad when I saw the trailer. My attitude was "Disney owns almost everything already, and now they're cluttering up my special pirate game?" (I also was never a fan of the movies.) And then when the (still kinda annoying) ocean crawlers made the game unplayable at first, before their number got reduced, I thought they'd truly broken the game. It took me a few months before I decided to play the tall tales, and of course they're great (especially the ride re-creation, since I've always loved the ride), but it's funny that what seems to be a wonderful memory for most SoT fans was an absolute bummer for me at first. Great video, as always.

Thats probably very controversial but I really dislike Season 3. Its my least favorite update. I hate the Tall Tales and since that was the basically the only new content, this was the first and only season where I didnt finished the pass
