Iirc one of the reasons this pops up a lot is from the design process back when they were making new molds a lot of the time they would experiment by "kit bashing" cutting up different pieces and gluing them together to make something new. Of course the final stage would produce a more cohesive mold. It's interesting to see the lineage of design language. It's almost darwinian

Another pair of pieces that share motifs are the Chronicler's staff piece, and Takanuva's light staff piece. The light staff piece is essentially an "unfolded" Chronicler's staff. This also makes sense if we ignore the MoL movie, where Takua's kohlii staff becomes his light staff. It would make sense that the Chronicler's staff would be the matoran tool that transformed into his toa tool.

The 2015 armor extension fitting on the 2001 torso piece was something I did not expect at all! That is so cool!

Its just good brand design. Having components or products remind you of other components and products from your brand makes it a stronger brand. Its also kinda cool to see if you squint the piraka torso with a metru waist attached kinda looks like a mata torso. In universe it also makes sense because most of the matoran universe species are massproduced and probably based on the glatorian/great beings species in their design. Similarly to how we humans imagine robots that look like us in fictional media.

I had noticed the similarities between the g2 armor and the toa mata body, but somehow I never thought to actually try putting one on the other. That’s really cool that they work so nicely together. I’m definitely going to go try that out now

The motifs on weapons are actually a convenience turned into a recognizable pattern: by putting those markings they are actually putting LESS plastic on the piece, hence it's always convenient for them to use it whenever possible. It's the primary reason why ALL the weapons have so many negative spaces, it's for saving plastic, but they use that wisely by adding patterns and shapes that make sense

I figured the mata torso match out a couple years back I think, I think I only posted about it on a discord though. I love seeing motifs across multiple pieces. We're seeing it now with new parts, like the SCCBS armor shell being based on the curved slopes introduced in KKII, or the samurai armor-esque aesthetic across the SCCBS cockpit and a couple other parts.

I used to play with a mishmash of G2 and G1, so I made my own G1 Toa USING that torso to G2 connection! AAAAAND guess what, I have that Star Wars set with black ones! I grew up on G2 tbh.

dang! i always had the impression that the g2 armor add-on was g1 inspired but i never would have guessed how close to g1 it actually is!

I wouldn't say that it's something nobody has thought of this particular parts combination . I remember when g2 first came out, that was one of those things everyone was doing mostly because those armor pieces have to be the coolest elements to come out of g2, so everyone was using them on literally everything, especially since everyone was quick to point out how the armor plate matched the spine and side piston design of the original toa.

Inika Jaller's arm armor fits perfectly on the sides of his torso

A great place to look for motifs is the Nuva, almost all the new parts they introduce in some way shape or form look like the shoulder armor, of which extends to the Rahkshi legs, and you notice it in places like Axonn's mask and Pridak's feet. A real neat thematic one is how the Staff of Light looks like a straightened Chronicler's staff, which given who Takanuva **is** is a really great touch

I knew about the Mata torso connection and CCBS armor shell, but didnt think much of it. Not as flush (think you would need to move it lower or turn it around) but you can also use it on the Metru torso as well. Also the Av Matoran arm limb has a visual design relations with the Metru arm piece, both have that spikey elbow design. Maybe the wider Av Matoran legs also take inspirations from the Metru legs, The Hordika legs, or even the Nuva legs.

As far as I’m aware of Lego never prints on any piece that are made of their softer plastic so that might have been one of the contributing factors why this piece never got any prints

Had to Check my ReBuilt Toa to make sure I didn't do that because I feel like I knew this was a thing, but never really realized it until just now. I did use them for the shoulders of my Takanuva (Went with the gold Nuva armor for his chest.)

A piece combo I got (not sure if others have) is the Lego Vikings Dragon head over the Hero Factory Speeda Demon helmet, they both have axle holes, you put a 3 long axle through them, and you get a nice, tribal-like helmet

the addon also works well on rakshi lower legs.

it's definitely been noticed before, its the first thing i did when i got the piece. come on now. Did anybody notice bohrok eyes are round?

Imagine g3 comes out and their pieces fit g2 and g1. Why? Because each generation is actually part of a bigger story. Each story taking a role of the 3 virtues. g1 is about unity g2 is about duty and g3 is the destiny of bionicle going forth. It's a crazy wish I know, but I can see them doing it, just like the mata nui robot reveal. That and it means they're all canon in the bigger scope, just not as idividuals. (maybe alternative timelines or maybe the same timeline just restarted over and over?)

a not inconsiderable amount of gold pieces around the era of g2 had that same weird discrepancy of colour. one of the more notable examples is that the dragon master wu minifig uses two gold pieces for his hood, and the top is a different shade from the bottom, it’s a very distracting quirk of the era. i want to say that the darker gold pieces are more fragile than the lighter shade of gold, most of the studs i have in that colour have some level of breakage compared to the lighter gold which ive had no such problems with. im very glad all of the golden masks in g2 were all the same shade, or at least the ones i have. i would hate to be stuck with one random mask that’s a different colour from all the other ones in my collection…
