Sadly, SSN-22 [Connecticut] slammed into a sandbar in the South China sea in Nov 2021. The damage was so severe that the sub won't return until at least 2027. The CO, XO, OOD, and Chief of the Boat were all demoted and relieved of command, damages are at least $1.5 Billion.

They obviously didn't take their duty seriously enough. And in THAT part of the US Navy, it is well-known, that if you mess up, you typically get a severe punishment, almost akin to being dishonorably discharged. Submarines, when not in port, dry dock, and the like, are not meant to be seen, much less detected. The ability to stay hidden is what makes them so feared. Crashing their submarine into a sandbar, whatever the circumstances, ESPECIALLY in contested waters...? Those service men and women are going to swabbing decks with tooth brushes until they get drummed out of the service... They will never Command, at least a Submarine, ever again... at most maybe patrol boats.

The hull numbers have really come a long way. I served on SS-395, SSN-604, and SSBN-635. The role of SSBN-635 was as a deterrent to the Soviet Union's use of nuclear ICBM's. (16 A2 Missiles with 4 MRVs each). The role of SSN-604 was to remain approximately 2,000 yards behind Russian missile submarines off our east coast to sink them if war commenced.

Whenever I hear mention of Federal spending, I think 'grossly over-spending.' Two examples: The US Navy spends $40,000 per day / per each inmate at Gitmo. I can build 3 small houses for $40,000. Also at Gitmo, the Navy spent around $200,000 to build one outhouse - that doesn't even flush.

The District of Columbia is what the new SSBN 826 will be called not the USS Columbia, and by zooming into Columbia SC at time 2432 didn't help. Also the Presidential Unit Citation the USS Jimmy Carter SSN 23 received was not the "Army" PUC ribbon you pictured at time 1724. It received the "Navy's" PUC ribbon which is Blue Yellow and Red "horizontally" striped. Otherwise cool video to most extent. God Bless Submariners.

Considering China out produces th us 10 to 1 I think th stupid navy brass should keep every sub we have esp th ohio class sub! Ww2 was won cuz we produced so many ships faster than they could sink them and since it takes 3 yrs to make 1 wen in 1943 th us built over 70,000 ships destroyers etc from 43 to 45 so acrapping any working sub is plain stupid to me 2 is better than 1 and 71 is better than 60 so if when it takes so long and so expensive to built 1 I think navy should start training and recruiting w world way it is now we better keep everything we got and if it can serve til 2026 it's good enuff to keep it couple more yrs at rate china's building so many ships and subs thier technology is pretty dam good ans thier workers outnumber us bgtme so keep wat we got. May I suggest that you go to a library and take out a copy of the book called Jane's Fighting Ships it may educate you to the realities of this subject.
