Here’s a tip. Fivelets (five-note groupings for a beat instead of the usual 4). Google them if you haven’t heard of them. Good for drum fills or interesting rhythms. Made easily possible thanks to the Tape. Eg. Set tempo to 100. Then record some straight four-on-the-floor quarter notes as a guide. Then rewind and set bpm to 125 and in Endless, enter maybe a 6-note roll in a series of 10 steps. Eg xxxxxxoooo where the 6 x’s are strikes and the 4 o’s are rests (with the > key). The last x hit will land on beat 2. And then beat 3 to beat 4. Just do the math and you can also do seven-note groupings. Or do this same thing at other tempos with the same 4:5 ratio. Cheers.

I always said the finger sequencer was underrated, everyone else keeps going on about the endless sequencer but endless can't do this. Also good for drums.
@Javeton3 ай бұрын
Endless is hard to program though since the way to backtrack is a pain in the ass and no way to undo it if you let go once.

Yup, you did indeed! Yes, combining drum patterns is also fun

My “tip”: Sketch is good if you don’t draw vertically! Try a sampled synth pad sound. Make a drone bass note across the whole thing, add another few notes. Slow it down all the way 🛸

I just figured out the other day, that you can use multiple octaves on the finger sequencer. love it!

Finger blew my mind when I got v1. So great. It is infinitely usable live. There is no way to remember--in front of a crowd--what you put anywhere, sequence-wise. So I just kind of play them randomly and surprise myself. With myself. They (almost) don't charge enough for v2. It's m BFF.
@SONWU3 ай бұрын
Haha…you are the first person to say they don‘t charge enough 😂

@@SONWU I saw it, thanks! First, I'll definitely buy your preset packs, they sound very nice. For now, I'm watching tutorials and practicing. Then I'll surely book a lesson, when I have some practice and specific questions to ask.

I ALWAYS fuck with the finger sequencer. For me, anything simple and quick, I use endless (honestly even for some complex stuff too lol...) but everything else I use the finger sequencer for. It's also fucking great for just jamming.

Best OP1 videos on youtube, this channel deserves more subs! Got my OP1F a week ago, what a great little device! You can get lost in music for hours , tape functionality is so cool (I’m kinda glad there’s no midi) and I’m excited to see what they will add in the future! Keep it coming Son Wu! 🤌

i like to use a sample that has octave jumps (either in the raw sample or with the Tremolo LFO) in conjunction with the ARPEGGIO sequencer

I've been using this to make drum patterns since the first version came out. I usually just sample them into my SP404 these days.

thank you very much for your tutorials ! I'm wondering if you managed already to make a tutorial video of OP-1 field sync possibility with MIDI gears (and not necessarily T.E gears) like Octatrack as slave, or master :) I've try to do it but usually get a lot of instability, maybe I didn't find the right way ! thank you again and take care !
@SONWU2 ай бұрын
My pleasure! Short answer, if you want to use the OP-1's tape, let the OP-1 be the MASTER. I haven't tried it with the Octatrack yet though.

Nice tip about transpose 😊 any idea how to change from major to minor 🤔 let say you jam with friends... and they change from major to minor scale.
@SONWU3 ай бұрын
Since C MAJOR = a minor…you can just look at it that way. Of course it also depends a little on what notes specifically you are playing in each sequence, but generally this should give you a start.
