I've always thought those looked ridiculously huge. The Alex Lifeson model is different... has a smaller headstock & it's the only one I'd want. Actually, the ones at 5:34 and 6:07 look pretty good too.

If upper fret access is a concern and you want a double neck, get a BC Rich. The "B" double neck is a classic in it's own right and you can get the Korean versions for under $2k brand new WITH a hardshell case. They're neck(s) through body too!
@bucknasty69

I’ve got the single neck version of the new Korean made Bich, and it’s a great guitar. Only thing I changed was the pickups; I didn’t care for the stock Dimarzio D Activators, so I swapped them out for a MegaDrive and PAF Pro I had laying around. It’s got 80s tone for days now!
@Darth.Shredder
@Darth.Shredder 7 ай бұрын
@@bucknasty69 I've been waiting for the Koa ones to come in stock at sweetwater. Was leaning towards the double neck but might just go with the 6. It may come down to whichever one comes in stock first. I love the DActivators in the six but the double neck has Duncan Designs which I'd change. The DActivators in the six string I'd be happy with.
@bucknasty69
@bucknasty69 7 ай бұрын
@@Darth.Shredder I didn’t know they’re bringing out a koa model. I’m happy with my purple metallic one, but koa would be nice. D Activators are good pickups. I’ve got a set in an Ibanez Iceman and they sound great. They just weren’t what I was looking for in this guitar. Funnily enough, I put them into my ESP Viper that came stock with EMGs, and I love them in that guitar. Go figure lol
@Darth.Shredder

@@bucknasty69 Yeah, Koa "B" as they now call it lol in six string and double neck and a Koa Mockingbird.. I've got 2 Iceman and 3 Destroyers. The stock Tone Zones sound great in half of them so I swapped them out in 2 of the Destroyers and one of the Icemans with JB's. I;ve got DActivators in a G&LAscari and an older Mockingbird Special X, Really like them. Kind of like the Pegasus in my LTD H3, I;m with you on the EMG;s... I hate them personally,

Gibson uses lots of veneer....Gibson's semi-hollowbodies like the ES-335 and ES-339 have tops and backs constructed of layers (either 3 or 4) of maple veneer. My understanding is that the veneers are assembled in successive cross-grain layers with the top layer having its grain longitudinal to the length of the guitar. The tops and backs are approximately 1/4" in thickness after layup.

How is it that Gibson almost never produced a double neck model with a guitar that had more than 20 Frets while any other builder was not restricted in that fashion? Was it only because they were attempting to unload ES-175 fingerboards or something?

Great detective work. I heard that the reason that Gibson does not make the cutaways deep on their double necks was a concern over the combined tension of all 18 strings on the body. The deeper cutaway on just the six string is a good compromise. But many companies have deeper cutaways on both necks. for example PRS, Carvin/Kiesel, BC Rich, etc. Alex Axe made a nice one. Alex used to have a shop on the infamous 48th street in Manhattan across the street from Many’s and the original Sam Ash. Alex sold double necks to Clapton and John Entwistle. I heard the late great Mark Hitt from Rat Race Choir play one and it sounded great. Ed Roman Guitars in Las Vegas once had Mark’s Alex Axe double neck and has a picture of it on their site. A while ago you showed a Gibson double neck with six pickups in white. Gibson should make another version of that with the Rundgren/ Farner mod. By the way, Mark Farner said in an interview that he started plying the lightweight Parker Fly guitar after his back doctor said that he needs to start using light weight guitars. Maybe that’s when he got rid of the double neck.

It has credible celebrity history, sure its beat to hell but its a true 60s EDS-1275 with history in the hands of the legendary Todd Rundgren, who is a hero to many including myself. If the "The Fool" SG was just some random hippie painted 60s SG, not owned by Eric Clapton and Todd, there's no way it would be worth over a million dollars. This is kind of a micro version of that special example.
