LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Never expected to see this gem of an anime getting some love

This show has the best magic system I've ever seen personally, I love it

What I love about this anime is that the magic actually makes sense, it's 'scientific.' For example, I'll quote the novel when Tatsuya was running uphill with Miyuki around 11:30. "What Tatsuya was using was a magic that would amplify both acceleration and deceleration forces generated when he kicked off the ground, and a magic that would suppress his upward motion in order to prevent him from jumping too high."

Tatsuya was born April, while Miyuki was born a year later in March, so he is the older one of the Siblings ^^

About the questions of "number in their last name": The number was part of their name when written in kanji. Take Chiba Erica(the red hair girl) for example: Her last name Chiba was wrote "千葉" in kanji, and the the first character, "千", means "thousand", which is a number. It will be very hard to understand if you can't read kanji + use English subtitles.

It's cool that this anime began to be remembered more often. One of the few representatives of the genre where magic is presented systematically, and not just "whoever shouts the spell louder and sees more flashbacks, the conditional fireball will be more powerful."

Hope you enjoy this show. The Irregular at Magic High is one of my all-time favorite animes. I love fantasy and I love sci-fi but I rarely ever see the 2 categories mixed together and done well. The detail and thought that goes into the technological aspect of this show and how it incorporates itself into magic is phenomenal. The characters are great, and the story keeps you entertained throughout the different arcs. The animation was ahead of its time from my perspective. While I don't exactly know why or what changed, for the longest time, the copyright grips were so tight on this anime that it was almost impossible to react or show clips of it for the longest time. I feel like that helped keep this gem from gaining more deserved spotlight. With the completion of season 2 and the announcement of season 3 to air late next year, I feel like this show is slowly gaining popularity again.

Season 1 of 'The Irregular at Magic High School' came out in 2014 ( the light novel started in 2008)... it kinda flew under a lot of people's radar at the time

This series has a good balance of action/world building/ and character development. They do a great job of making you like side characters. It's an underatted gem for sure. It had its flaws 100% but it's a good ride.

The reason Tatsuya was talking about numbers when the family names were mentioned is because there is some sort of hierarchy (ranking) if that's what you'd call it. Their are certain family with greater influence on others and the number is more like a ranking it helps distinguish strong from weak and reputable families. It does talk about it in future episodes so I wont say too much. Also the show came out in 2014 and there is a movie that came out in 2021 of when they were younger. The first scene you saw in the episode was from the movie. I'd suggest watching the movie and not leaving it out it completes the puzzle. The film is more about Tatsuya, Miyuki and their family in general. Great show though and I love to see someone reacting to it. Can't wait for episode 2 reaction.

It's just one of these series you can watch again and again and still enjoy as much as the first time😊 It also has one of the most interesting magic systems imo, too

This is one of my favorite animes and no one seems to be reacting to it. So happy you took it up. But there's a lot of things that get left out when going from light novel to anime. The numbers are big families. Being spoiler free here, people with surnames having numbers in them (in japanese. till now mayumi and erika are said to be those) are from big families with influence in the magic space. There are various levels to them like 1 to 10 being better than numbers under 100. Also CAD(Casting Assisting Devices) is basically tech to do magic in short(like wands, grimoires, etc but high tech and much faster).

This series magic is science base and SS1 do them justice. Every magic in this series can explain through scientific perspective, that's including basic science too. You can expecting a good quality from minor detail you can get from them. All but not limit to magic are reasonable, has cause and effect.

The Masterpiece begins

Glad you picked this show. Its very underrated in my opinion. There are some parts where they could have sped it up but overall I like it.

They are basically modern age magicians, but using both magic and technology.

I saw this when it originally came out, I never thought I would see it in a react channel

The numbers thing is a system where if the family has accomplished enough or have proven their strength, they will be given a number and/or a place. So kinda like a council of the top strongest families. The actual name for this in the show is the Ten Master Clans. Both Saegusa and Chiba are currently part of the numbers so he pointed it out. I first watched this show in high school and had nowhere near the amount of attention and comprehension now so it's alright if you miss a few facts here and there. 14:02 The anime came out in 2014 lmao. It was done by studio MADHOUSE which at the time was considered to be one of if not the best studio with high quality production with shows like One Punch Man, No Game No Life, Overlord, Death Note, Parasyte, etc. 15:50 There's a shortage of capable teachers so they're prioritizing course 1 students. Course 2 students don't usually get teachers which is why they're confused. Btw your questions about magic and Tatsuya's specifically will be somewhat explained throughout the series so I think it'll be a spoiler but yeah

Finally you got to watch this anime, this anime was aired around 2014, near when SAO and other really popular anime aired so that's why this anime didn't get so much attention at first when the anime aired

You even caught subtle hints like the fact that they have a stepmother and that the Numbers are like strong magic families. That's great since this anime can be pretty detailed. Also, a little explanation about the teacher thing since I don't think it was explained in the anime. The students were surprised because Course 2 students don't have actual teachers (iirc, it's been a while since I read the novels). Course 2 students pretty much rely on vids and other study materials to learn.

Neel in short tatsuya the mc in simple terms is satoru gojo level in power of which is explained during near the end of season1. As to the whole bloom and weed its slang for magically talented(the advance class) and non magically talented (general class). As stated by miyuki tatsuya is highly proficent in magical theory and science as well and master of ninjustsu or more specifically taijutsu but magic wise hes below average by the schools standards of testing hence no flower or bloom emblem.

Numbers are based on the last names, they are the top 10 clans in Japan which their family having super magic or mages, under them are vassals clans but you'll learn more as you watch the series

I believe what was supposed to be implied was that the Brother is only 11 months older then the sister which is how they're able to go to school in the same year/grade. Also I think this came out in the mid 2010's or so, could be wrong. It's been a few years since I first spotted this one.

If you really end up liking this series I would also recommend The Honor Student at Magic High School, which is the story from Miyuki's perspective... and because it's from Miyuki's perspective it gives details that The Irregular at Magic High School doesn't give.

Did you know that this series is same as toaru series which have a alternate story(but still inline with main story), and it called yuutousei which more focused on his young sister.

If you are curious about the month between the siblings. In Japanese model schools, the school year starts in April so the students attended each year must have been born between April to March of the next year (so most of them would be at the same age when the school starts unless some repeat the year or gifted to pass a class). As Tatsuya born in April and Miyuki at March (of the next year), 11 months apart so they would attend the same class together. The anime gave Tatsuya much better look compared to the Light Novel. Since the novel described Tatsuya as not that good looking (just plain, normal... well, a taller than normal guy) who got himself the most beautiful in all aspects little sister. And Neel you are spot on how the practical way the school required to pass the test. With a magic be categorized into 6 types, it's called Systemetric Magic. While you saw him using a nuke magic (just call it that for now) at the start of the show. It wasn't on the Systemetric Magic so that wasn't count as one. No matter how good he is on hand to hand combat or how he perfected all paper tests, he is (seemingly) subpar on Systemetric Magic so he is a course 2. You can see why as the show goes on. Miyuki also said at the start, "the life she has right now is the gift(power) from onii-sama" that is the sole reason why she calls Tatsuya like that, as sama is a term to use to someone higher in esteem way. It would be revealed why later as well. When Tatsuya said to Mizuki that she had "good" eye. He's being sarcastic to her glasses, in the age where Lasik surgery so easy to pull off there would be no need for eyeglasses anymore. As he knew that glasses are used to filter magic particles to her eyes as she got magic sensitive eyes.
