Gripping the club correctly is vitally important, as it is the only thing that connects you to the clubface and is essential in order to improve your ball striking, whereas a bad grip can limit your potential. In this lesson, I demonstrate how to develop the correct grip and also provide a few key pointers to include in your practice sessions.

There are far many worse things to be addicted to… Golf and Paddy are a positive…. For me personally I prefer to think of it as an opportunity in a few different ways…. #1 … It’s Golf!!!! #2 … it’s Padraig Freakin Harrington who just happens to have 3 Majors, a couple Ryder Cups, Top 10’s all over the Planet, and let’s not forget that he’s in the H.O.F. …. Last but not least because that’s only if whoever is watching this is in a certain age group most likely, it’s mental, emotional, and physical activity that can help you stay just a little bit healthier in the long run…. Hope everyone enjoys this amazing opportunity to learn from this gentleman and apply the lessons on the course and maybe even in life as well…. Hit Em Straight n Not too Often, Cheers!!!

I was never a particularly big fan of Mr. Harrington until recently. I watched his match with Pete Finch and warmed up to his humour and personality. I then discovered this channel. It is easily the best golf instruction channel on youtube. I can’t thank Mr. Harrington enough for helping me with my game. Needless to say, i will be rooting for him whenever i catch him playing a tournament on TV! Again … a huge thank you!

I remember being around 13 and spending the whole summer (18-36 holes everyday day + practice) focusing on nothing but changing my grip because I had a real strong grip as a junior and it took the whole year to feel comfortable with it. It was the most awkward thing. 20 years later I don’t even think about it, a nice nutrual grip feels so natural but when I was changing it, it felt so weird for so long, eventually though it becomes ingrained and you won’t understand how you used to grip it differently.

Thanks for revisiting the "Grip" Paddy. My grip has been getting more and more weird lately. My confidence over the ball and subsequently scores have been suffering. Back to a more regular grip for me 😁

Yes, so true and funny at 8:30. When I'm playing with someone or group for the first time, I can tell right away how they are going to play right from their setup and waggle or non-waggle.

Thank you so much Padraig for making these =D I finally started my Fat Loss Golf for cardio arc. I began my 250lbs weight loss journey last November at 546lbs and currently 460lbs and decided to teach myself golf completely from scratch and i'm doing so primarily using your videos. My plan is learn to hit Sand wedge and Pitch Wedge along w/ putting before I touch anything else. After I am somewhat proficient w/ the wedges I will add a 7 iron. Then I will use those 4 clubs to play 9 holes and not even touch my driver until I can reliably hit pars. I want to build my foundation properly and listen to all the OG wisdom of (Short game/putting is where the money is made) and so thats where imma focus. I putted today for first time and was amazed at how well I did. Over 90% within 2 feet and about 70% at 3 feet after just watching your putting video and applying it. I was even making good amount from 4-5 feet. Thank you so much Mr. Harrington for taking the time to make these videos. I am rapidly falling in love w/ golf and what started as a form of low intensity steady state cardio is turning into something more. My soul literally tingles when im playing =D

it's not in this video but would like you to elaborate on your "packed shoulder" (trail shoulder) feeling that you have mentioned before. Relates to Pete Cowan's teachings but would like to see a video on this. thanks for providing such approachable content. Much appreciated.

I notice I'm much more consistent and straighter with a 10 figure grip vs overlap/interlocked. Is it really worth it to try and re-learn my swing by changing to an overlap/interlocked?

Lovely Paddy, hoping to get out again next week or so. Been playing golf + vr for last couple of months while the weather was poor 😂 What's the story with locking little finger and index finger? Is that a must?
@TheRealWarez
@TheRealWarez 12 күн бұрын
It's called the "interlocking grip" and no, it is not required. Your other option is the overlap, where the little finger sits on top of the index finger (basically the little finger of your trail hand never comes in contact with the grip). Those are the 2 "correct" grips based on current golfing knowledge/information. There is a third grip, the baseball grip, where you grip the golf club just like a baseball bat, but I don't know of any professional or semi-professional golfer who has used that grip in decades. I'm no Padraig Harrington, but I hope that helps!

Padriag illustrates pulling the arms into the body while coming into impact. Is this a thing that works to control swing radius and improve ground contact (less deep divots)?

That’s just what is happening, opposing forces. That’s why the club doesn’t just go flying out, you’re pulling back.
