It’s unlikely that José Antonio Vizcarra was looking for ancient ruins. After all, it was the height of summer in 1823, and Vizcarra, the governor of New Mexico, was waging war against the Navajo. For 74 days Vizcarra and a column of 1,500 soldiers advanced through the west of the state, and their route took them through Chaco Canyon. This was the first recorded journey through the canyon. And while Vizcarra may not have realized it, he was actually about to make an incredibly important archaeological discovery. In the valley, he spotted the ruins of a number of different buildings. This, as it turned out, was a city of the Anasazi, the ancestors of the Pueblo Native Americans. The canyon lies in a remote location between the modern cities of Farmington and Albuquerque. From 800 A.D. to around 1130 A.D., however, the site was the hub of Anasazi culture. But even with Vizcarra’s rediscovery of the ancient structures, it wasn’t until later in the 19th century that archaeologists began to delve into the secrets of the Chacoan past.

You apparently misunderstand the uses of the word "discover". It does not mean create, invent, or anything to do with being first. It means to find, or reveal something, usually not commonly known to others of the society. We speak of scientific discoveries, but no one claims that anyone thinks the things didn't exist before scientists figured them out and revealed them to the rest of the world.

Actually, native Americans did not know it was there, and it is pure conjecture (but has become orthodoxy) that there is a connection between modern-day tribes and the ancient people who built the site. The fact that modern tribes who know wish to stake claim to the ruins are opposed to DNA testing of the finds speaks volumes.

No mention of all the astronomical alignments in a vid about Chaco Canyon? This "city" was used as an observatory of heavenly bodies. Encoded in the structures are certain moon cycles that took hundreds of years of observation to discover. The people who designed and built this complex were adept at astronomy and mathematics. I have been drawn to this site since I was a child learning about the people from "prehistoric" period in the Americas.

Would you prefer “warrior’ the Navajo arrived in the four corners area at about the same time as the Spanish. It was no more Navajo land then Spanish land, the Anasazi having left four centuries before. Our word Navajo in fact comes from the Zuni ‘apachu nabaho ‘ translating as ‘thief of the field’.

So Wikipedia says " It was named Nuevo México after the Aztec Valley of Mexico by Spanish settlers, 223 years before the establishment of the present-day country of Mexico. The present-day state of New Mexico was not named after, nor is it a part of, Mexico. Its geographic characteristics made settlement and effective political control difficult which prompted Mexico's invasion and control of the area from 1824 to 1846.". Ok back to listen to the rest.

Gary Daniel A handful of Spanish explorers walked through, planted a flag and said, "We claim this land for the Empire of Spain." Later, a few missionaries set up work camps for natives, and repressed them if they rebelled. Later still, apparently for about 22 years, they had "control" over part of it. So many people today want to claim it is their birthright, even though their ancestors never set foot there, unless one passed through a few thousand years ago.

I have a problem with DNA results. So far everything I have been reading the Archeologists find very few remains if any of the Anasazi people. So how do they relate all the rulers are related to one women? Two good books to read on the Anasazi are In Search Of The Old Ones and The Lost World Of The Old Ones. Both written by David Roberts read in the same order I listed them. Both well written with a whole lot more understanding of the archaeology and the arguments, or so called educated guesses.

K. C. Those buildings mark key days in the year, solstices etc. Those same buildings mark a very long cycle of the moon that lasts for many years. The ruins at Chaco canyon are more than what they appear to be. The knowledge of the moon cycles alone took many years of direct observation and to encode these into architecture is not as easy as throwing together silos for corn. Maybe research about the site before making judgement. They needed a knowledge of the moon and its varied cycles within cycles and they needed to understand mathamatics to design the complex. These are definitely signs of civilized behavior.

Spaniards are Latinos not Europeans, Europeans are predominately white, and Spaniards, Italians and Greeks and the like are Latinos who have their own special name for Europeans as they do for the dark skinned folks, Spanish architecture is more in keeping with North African building techniques, not as they would say, like Anglo's, Saxon and later Norman stone work is the pinnacle of masonry technology.

Yes they were. There are tons of evidence showing that they killed and ate their enemies, regardless of age, then when drought hit bad enough, they ate their own, including their children. Look up Anasazi pot polish. Here is an example. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/%28SICI%291099-1212%28200001/02%2910%3A1%3C4%3A%3AAID-OA502%3E3.0.CO%3B2-Q

The pot polish pretty much proves cannibalization. The bones were cracked open to get the marrow and they were then boiled. This is only done if you are going to consume the end result. Using body parts for artistic purposes is very different, as is dissecting a body for a "more efficient" burial. :)

I would just like to point out to all the "pro native American Indian" people out there that the current "native" people of America were not the first inhabitants of America. they only arrived about 10,000 years ago after the ice cleared from the bearing straits. before that the entire population of north America were black Africans. The existing population of black native American were systematically hunted and exterminated by the newly arriving Asian population using their superior weapons. this has been proven without any doubt by archeology, paleontology and DNA testing. there is no room left for doubt about it. Before 10,000 years ago ALL the remains found are black African native American. After 10,000 years ago ALL the remains are Asian native American. So as far as anyone can tell, the REAL Native Americans were black Africans. The Asian Americans got the land in exactly the same way that the later white Americans got it. they killed all those who people who were already living there. Also there is no such thing as "the White man" and there never was. There are English, Irish, Scottish, Spanish, French, Italians, Russians, Greeks, Swiss, Turkish, Germans, Egyptians, Finnish, Norwegian, Dutch. and they range in color from dark brown with black hair to very pale pink with blond hair. All of those types have very different and distinct cultures. that's one reason why the Asian native Americans lost. They never had any kind of idea who they were trying to fight. So they lumped everyone together as "the white man" When seen in a proper historical context, it is really "the white man" who has enabled the re-colonization of the Americas by it's original racial inhabitants... Black Africans. And yes, they could have done it in a much better way than they did.Racial exodus is very often a cruel thing. As usual, your kind of racism is unfounded in any real fact.
