She spared Rip asking John for his blessing to marry daughter; it was Rip’s turn to say how much Beth means to him. When Rip said, “I love you,” during the Beck beat down, it was her salvation.

He took them both out and then focused on comforting her. That was his only focus, even though he had been shot severely.
