Hey Sandy, the book says to start from right and move towards the the left. When you start at the left side of the stump there is a tendency for the grinder to walk up onto the stump. Follow their instructions and this grinder works flawlessly. 👍

The best part about the grinder is that you're done when you're done. Not only do you not have a hole to deal with if you pull the root ball out, you also don't have the root ball to deal with! You should get turnbuckle style anti-sway bars for your 3ph arms ...surprised it came with those pin-style ones. All that yoinking is going to snap those clevises eventually!

Have this exact unit and been using it a lot lately. I want to add to be very careful if you are grinding roots or small chunks that are sized right to be sucked up into the unit. I’ve had two nasty clogs so far that required some unfun upsidedown chainsawing to get the piece unwedged. If my tractor PTO had a reverse it would probably have helped. Just stop grinding if you find yourself at the end of the work and the root/stump is jumping around/rattling - the next step will be getting it sucked up into the unit!

That was pretty slick and fast! You answered my question and I could see as soon as you showed us that the teeth were on the front so that is the only direction you can cut. And yes, that is way, way faster than digging the stump out, filling the hole and getting rid of the stump. Thanks for sharing with us, I'll be watching more of your videos.

Hey Sandy I purchased the Woodland Mills Stump Grinder watched your videos before I bought you do nice videos on different products I also have a HM122 band mill I like Woodland Mills products, mounted my grinder on a Kioti DK6010 HST Live in Southern Ohio Have had my mill 4 years works great just got the grinder today easy setup used it to take down 3 20 inch pine stumps I have several white oak Stumps to take down they will require a little more time but should not be any problem

Hello Sandy, thanks for the great videos you put out. Kioti for sure makes the turn buckle style of stabilizers and the come with all the tractors other than the se versions, your tractor being a “se” comes with the quick pin style. Even if you were able to get just one of the turn buckle style it would help you out a lot with the sway. I have a Kioti CK2610 with the same grinder and I set my turn buckles off to the right hand side off center so I don’t have to turn as far to see the stump. You could even try to set your arms out to the right and see if it tightens up the sway as it might get you into tighter holes in your quick adjust arms and away from the slotted ones. Thanks for the video, I ordered one this week before I saw your review. It would be a lot cheaper to rent a self contained unit from Home Depot a few times, but I argued that I want the convenience of being able to do a stump on my schedule rather than planning a whole day of grinding. The electric company trimmed (removed) a bunch of trees from my property so there's a lot of small stuff and I can't mow in that area since my mower hangs up. I'll probably get that area cleaned in a few hours based upon what you've shown. However I can then take my time removing other trees that are becoming widow makers as well as clean up another area. I'll probably buy a spare set of teeth from Gabdon as they have a better price than Woodland. Such a shame it doesn't come with Spares and they wouldn't throw them in as a 4'th of July incentive. Jeffs sharpening & supplies services old teeth as well. I hope the shaft fits a NewHolland TC33D with SpeedCo QH...

Hi Sandy. After watching what you presented, you might want to have some play in that three-point connection. It reminded me of the tree that will not bend, so it is uprooted, or in this case, could break. If you had a lazy and cool day, you have a lot of places to attach a hammock. Have good days!

I tried this stump grinder with my 2550 Kubota and I had to constantly ride the clutch. It was too fast even with the slowest speed. I now us it on my Kubota 3540 HST. Works great. Thanks for the video.

Love your channel, I just wish my land was as flat as yours. My CK 3510 has turnbuckle style adjusters. To me that’s the best thing to keep the 3pt hitch arms from swinging side to side. I have a Woodland Mills stump grinder as well (after seeing it working on your channel). I ground off two stumps and then one trip to Amazon later I had a camera. I’d never run my grinder without it now. I’d use the back up camera you have now and gear up a mount that you can swap easily back and forth. You have your monitor mounted the same place as mine and it works perfect. Thanks for sharing what you do.

that works better than i would have thought. it is precise, and lets you limit the stone strikes. I wonder if you thought about a mulcher head for your mini-excavator? I know that those heads work well on skid steer's to get rid of those downed logs as well.

Right now I sure could use a stump grinder. 3 oak stumps need gone sooner rather than later. One stump is about 38/40 inches at ground level. I enjoy watching you using yours, I just get a little envious. Good vid. Thanks.

good job and video did nice job i think rocks would really work on them i was going to get one but they will not work with any of my tractors. some stumps are hard to dig up any way daddy use to dynomite them out years ago. take care, be safe and well.

Highly recommend a camera with screen on dash with magnets so you don’t have to turn around.

The Grinder leaves the best finish and is no question, the quickest/cleanest way to knock out stumps! When you moved the camera to show where you were looking through, it looks like mounting the camera INSIDE the cab looking out would be an excellent view, since you can see the entire machine and not need to worry about a branch or random chunk of whatever , bouncing up an hitting an exterior mounted camera!

SANDY... One of the best videos you've produced!! (Woodland Mills should reimburse you for it - maybe give you a credit on your purchase price for something else you could use)! When you got the stump grinder and you demo'd it last fall, I wasn't impressed. With today's explanation of it, along with several different views of it in action, I thought..., "If my nephew had one of these, I could honestly say..., I'VE PULLED MY LAST STUMP WITH AN EXCAVATOR." (Well, maybe not... I think you would be grinding for a long time on a 36" oak or black walnut stump). OK.... I also saw what you referred to, regarding the shifting from left to right when you engaged a stump. I'll whip up an email with a better design for the (3-point hitch) brace to eliminate that problem. Damn, buddy, you've no idea how much I wish I had your farm and YOU had the place you Really want!!

Awesome job the grinder is the best way to do it I’d look into turnbuckle style bars to get rid of the slop. Also for ease of moving your mini around your property look for a old trailer to town behind your tractor that’s what I use to move my mini on my property works great

The fastest way to take out stumps is still with an excavator, if you dont have that, you utilize what you have. There are people from the constructionbusiness that log trees with the excavator and use the chainsaw after the tree is in the save horizontal position.

The thinning should work well. I had a tree that was in an area that was thinned quite a few years ago and then taken as a saw log. The rings jumped from less than a 1/8" to more than 1/2" and stayed that way for a few years. If you think of it take a look at the rings when you harvest some of your trees where you thinned and see how they do over a few years.

you making me want to buy that stump grinder... i've seen it for years now... but first time on the same tractor i'm using lol... Oh by the way, you might be able to stuck the 3pts in one side or lets say... a bit tighter. i can tight my snow blower a bit more if i dont trye to center it perfectly, sometime a notch more is all what it needs!

Sandy, strongly recommend to use HST vs std tractor when stump grinding. I have done both and HST is much easier. Doing his on std trans tractor puts a lot of cycles on clutch wears prematurely. Never mind what it does to your left leg... :)

Hi Sandy, it's been a while since I posted anything, but you still get my view when you post anything new! I came back to this vid, because I pulled the trigger and bought a WM 24" stump grinder, (of course the November WM special "No Freight charge" was an extra bonus, lol!) and though have not cut as much lumber on my HM130 Woodlander, I have had nothing but good feelings when it comes to working with Woodland Mills! Question though! Since getting your grinder, did you buy extra replacement teeth, or have you had to replace teeth since you have used it?! I didn't buy any, but figured I would down the road when the bank account got a bit more padded!

3pt pto stump grinders have their place for small work. But for serious large stump grinding the gold standard is skid Steer front mount or walk behind self propelled swing arc hydraulic grinder

That amount of slop in the stabilizers would drive me nuts. I'd pull those pins and add some washers or hammer the forks tighter if they're bent out. Tightening that up will make grinding that much easier.

That looks like a great tool to get rid of the stumps. Does it quickly. I wonder what it would be like with 24" to 30" stumps? It probably would really shine is my guess might have to get cut stumps closer to the ground. Great video.

Did you end up looking in the manual at which side to start from on the stump? I’ve seen most videos say you start on the opposite side of the discharge which would be your right side sitting forward. Curious what you found out and which side works best in your eyes.

Good Morning Sandy, I hope your week is in full swing and that you are creating mounds of chips and slivers. Addressing the sideways movement on the grinder, I looked at my older Kubota's three point setup and noticed that instead of a bar setup like the one on your tractor, mine has a chain and turnbuckle on each side, that can be tightened to secure the entire three point setup, thus no sideways movement. Maybe that could be the answer to your situation. Get back to me if I can be of any help, by sending a photo or ????

The other problem with ripping/digging/pulling stumps out of the ground is where mature trees are in a relatively close proximity to one another. It is not hard to damage the roots of nearby trees this way. And it can occur without you noticing… then a few years later the damaged tree is starting to die.

For what you're doing, the stump grinder is faster and makes the most sense! Taking them out is great if you're an excavator and changing the whole landscape so you can build on it but why have a mud hole everywhere when you can just leave it to rot? That's one of my favorite tools you have, it saves time, money and a lot of effort. About the turnbuckle type sway bars (drag links) they should have those or something even better at that equipment place you visited in your video. You and GP outdoors both go there.

I just use the backhoe, affordability and versatility (I can go from the backhoe stump pulling to doing other work easily), and filling in holes is easy sending moisture your way!

Start on the other side of the stump once to see what the grinder doses I think you would like it.

With all respecht for your work and business: as a certificated forest engineer in old Europe I'd like to draw your attention to the fact that a forest isn't a garden or a park. You might want to think in periods between 100-200 years when managing it. So 2 years is nothing for letting a stump to rot. Give them 20-30 years and they are gone. Pine is a bad species for the soil and it takes 5-10 years until the needles are rotten and they contain very little nutrients. Every leaf plant in your forest is a win and falling leafs in autumn will rot waaay faster than pine needles. So you should try to keep them all. Depending on your soil, if it's not pure sand you destroy the micro biotope under the surface by driving around all over the surface with your tractor. If you have clay in your soil it can take up to 80 years to heal one single tractor crossing. We over here are used with using one single track maybe every 20m for tractors and harvesters and avoid touching the rest of the soil. Additionally we use old stumps for guiding the cables when pulling out logs to avoid damaging the bark. Btw driving over a root you don't see can open an entrance for mushrooms and bacteria happy to have a chance destroying your still wealthy tree... Don't be afraid of other species in the forest hindering your pines to grow. They already are high and get enough sunlight, so that's the most important for them to grow. Not much water needed. Hope to deliver you some insights in forest management. I'm often scared of what I see in the forests of the USA or Canada...Not very sustainable. Enjoy your forest and keep it for your children and grandchildren...

I think you need to take the slack out of the 3 point linkage, it will only get worse with wear.

At my age the looking back out the window i wouldn't be able to turn my head for a month.lol.looks like it sure works well.

I was just looking at a stump grinder for my skid steer. However, the one I wanted requires a case drain. My machine is old, like me, no case drain.

The stump grinder I believe is by far better way to get rid of stumps. I don't think it would be that easy with my manual shift Kubota. Is the 540 rpm recommended by woodland mills. Could you run it faster.

It would seem to me that if you were to make the cut with the upward swing of the grinder, starting rather deep and then working across the stump, the rotation of the grinder would pull the cutter down into the cut and provide the proper tension to keep the whole works from digging in and chattering.

While that stump grinder is the simplest design for a tractor PTO, it is not nearly as effective as one that would swing side to side. Having to move the tractor back and forth to grind the whole stump is tedious due to poor sight lines to the blade.

What about all down tree trash recommend to at least make trash piles that would benifit wildlife such rabbits grouse and other small crtters and reduce fuel should fire happen from lighting or ?

you got too many stumps to do what i do with them. pick one with a flat top, drill a 1" hole in center of top then drill in side to meet first hole about 8-10 inches down. make sure they meet. make a fire in center where the two meet. prop a perculator above center hole. do not block the hole.

It's bouncing because you are starting on the wrong side. It's trying to climb out of the cut.

i don’t think that’s good for a three point hitch. You’re going to hog out your holes that attach your hitch. too much slop. I’d worry about breaking something….But for the grinder itself, it looks like it is effective

all you are doing is removing the tip of the iceberg, stump and root ball still there so you cannot run a plow through the area to turn it into field for growing anything. Great way to make it safe and look good but thats it.
