About the Wad Jadi temple. I’ll try to be simple and hope you’ll understand. They believe if the boy is alive today he would had loved all super heroes just like most boys today. So they gave status to keep him entertained, and also to entertain children of the people who visited the temple. And… all of us as an adult we do have a young child hidden inside of us which it may bring joy to us as well . So when we encounter something cute, animal, children, we seem to go back in time and reminiscing our childhood right tha way. And in our high pitch little voice saying … Swaddee Kha ! 555 (In thai texting 555 = ha ha ha, because 5 pronounced the same sound as ‘ha’. )

Hi Paddy, as a Thai person, I was told by the locals (when I visited Wat Chedi) that the Advanger-themed statues are brought to the temple by Thai people for the boy spirit (Ai Kai) to play with, and for repaying the boy spirit for making their wishes come true (just like the cock you put there, it is also for the boy spirit to play with, so that he will grant you your wishes). Btw, the Roti in Nakhon Si Thammarat is really good, there's place called Bạng Baw Roti & Tea, it is the best place to get Roti in the province. Btw, awesome vlog as always, Paddy!!!

Well done video. I really like the way you mix up your content. For example I love seeing all the epic ness of you atop a lush cliff, on a spectacular beach, or on a boat. However, if you only showed that it would get boring. Therefore I quite enjoy that you mix it up and also show what a town is really like, ugly concrete buildings and all. I like seeing your hotel room, a funky pizza place or coffee shop, a unique tourist attraction, and even a 7-11. It makes the videos much more authentic and real vs a cable travel show that only shows high end resorts and pristine beaches.

Great video Paddy.. these are areas foreigners seldom go to.. would love to rent a car, travel around and immerse ourselves in the local’s way of life. One beauty of travelling to a new place is slowly adapting and quietly watching the locals go on their day to day routine. It makes you expand your horizons and experience. Although there are many reasons for having the comic hero statues at temples specifically….the origins actually come from the leadership of Thai Buddhism in the discussions of how to bring the children closer to the religion during a time when Buddhism is seeing more young children not participating in what is really a cultural tradition of spending time as a young monk…..for some temples that have story boy monk statues….worshippers have always brought toys and such…just more recently added comic heroes….and as the comic heroes began to fill temples to get more participating children, the surrounding community such as OTOP locations and even coffee shops jumped on the bandwagon to attract more family friendly patrons …..there u have it…

Yeah… most towns in Thailand have replaced their traditional wooden buildings with a variety of blasé cement block buildings with no uniformity or character. And there could be a brand new, attractive shop building with apartments above the rented shops but within a couple years the nice facade will be covered with various ugly shop signs covering the 2nd & 3rd floors. These weary looking concrete buildings of all shape and sizes in Thai cities makes one appreciate building codes and ordinances found in other countries.

Thai people believe every land is own by spiritual, kind of same thing as native Indian believes in it , as you said many of Thai house have a little spiritual house , it to let the spirits who own the land know you are here to stay and wish the spiritual for protection, because way back in the older days many Thai villages and Thai house often got robbed by enemy or bad people, so they kind of ask the spiritual to keep an eye on for them property in peace , and there for often Thai people thank them every morning for keeping the house and land in peace for them I like your Rooster Crow Cock A Doodle Doo souvenir lol , love your VDO very entertaining . And you are correct about the marvel statue is the way to keep children entering and also kind of teaching the children of good examples of super hero and a spiritual world in children layman terms teaching.

At time 26:36 be careful when parking your motorbike. Red and white curbs are no parking zones. The police will come along and pick up your bike and put it in the back of their truck to take with him to the police station. You should have parked at the blank curb a few feet over. Hi Paddy did you see a lot of toys in Wat Jedi Temple because people made a wish.When the wish came true,they give Ai Kai a toy whatever small or big toy.You can see Captain American ,Spider-Man etc.Because Ai Kai still a little boy like to play toys let he happy with these,and also set firecrackers,give him military dress.

The Prince of Chumphon went to England to learn Naval stuff, whatever the technical name is. Britain were the naval experts back then. The king wanted close connections with Britain because Burma and India were under British rule so Rama V didn’t want Thailand to be next. As a thai person, my best guess would be that thai people are so so crazy about photo-taking culture, you know, taking selfies having their photos taken etc. So, many owners of establishments like restaurants, cafes, gas station or even temples are trying so hard to decorate their places to attract that kind of customers to come and at least take a photo at their places hoping they would end up buying something. Those avenger figures and the likes are there for them to just take photos with, starting as a creative and quirky way to decorate the place and now they are getting lame and start to signify low taste of decoration, but still, a lot of places have these figures anyway. (mostly places that do not have their own attraction like beautiful garden, beach waterfall bla bla bla). anyway, this is not particularly for Wat Jedi but it’s a general explanation for those Avenger figures you probably have seen everywhere in Thailand. sorry for my broken English.
