Like you said burn doesn't reduce attack, it halves the damage of physcial moves (which body press is). You could justify sword of ruin by saying it only modifies defensively. What's really weird is Wo Chien makes body press weaker.

with this fact, you can also use it as a reasoning standard for other things in the game . body press checks the number from the DEF stat as the ATK stat, because of this interaction, we can use it to deduce game states that dont happen often and even for future moves! Hail raises the DEF stat of ice pokemon, but not the ATK stat. so when Body press uses number of the DEF stat as ATK, there is no boost. Hail boosts DEF This means, Eviolite ALSO does not increase body press and THAT means Choice band will Increase body press. Because The ATK stat will use the DEF stat number and then give it a boost!

@@chadeava If it wasn't for Psyshock, I'd just say that it only checks what moves target instead of what they use... Wo Chien doesn't affect Psyshock, right?

@@MochachiiinoWorks It's also treated differently than using a different normal attacking stat. Psyshock isn't affected, I don't believe, by Burn or Wo Chien... Though now I really wish I had my Switch to test.

I think most of the time, depending on the target, Heavy Slam can be ~120 BP compared to Behemoth Bash 100 BP.

@@ctv186 I personally prefer Bash to heavy slam just because one very common meta pokemon runs tera fairy, and it's very heavy: Raging bolt. I'd rather have consistent 100BP across the board (still OHKO flutter, so whatever)

heavy slam and moves like it only calc base power from their gimmick, then apply stat calcs like normal, so often Heavy Slam is 120 base power bc zamazenta is heavy. however you do get screwed over if it’s an opposing heavy mon with tera fairy. Mostly the reason ppl don’t run Bash i think is because it only has 8 pp max, but the consistent damage definitely has its upside

Ghost types are the answers to zamazenta: gholdengo, annihilape, sinistcha, any ghost type that isn't weak to heavy slam is a good zama answer I've seen people running ceruledge and chandelure but I don't think they are good. Another answer is ditto with tera ghost

Base power of the move heavy slam is based off weight difference but the damage is calculated with the atk stat so for instance if you're much heavier it can be determined the move has a base power of 120 from there it is calculated like a flare blitz or brave bird essentially if that makes sense
