Darius, you should be proud of those two good men you raised. The fact they cared enough to restore that old tractor says a lot about all of you, and especially about the fine job you did raising them. God bless!

This is a beautiful tractor! My dad had a Farmall H in the mid 60's that I got to run for my first experience on a tractor. I first ran it baling hay. I too have fond memories of that old tractor. Thanks for sharing and helping me remember that wonderful time in my life!

My great grandfather bought one of these in the late 60’ or early 70’s. He was the kind of guy that would buy something like this. It was always one the property and pulled many hay wagon trips with the family and all the cousins.

Love these videos! Growing up in farming community, I had 22 uncles and aunts from both of my parents sides. Almost all were farmers, or married farmers. I'm 69 now, still dream of those days working the fields on Oliver 77s, super 88 diesel, Farmall H & M, John Deere R. I understand emotional attachment of these people reuniting with the old iron of their youth. It brings a tear to my eye, a lump in my throat, and joy to my heart when I watch these videos. Keep'em coming and thank you for joy they bring!

Absolutely the most iconic tractor ever built, reliable ,easy to start ,easy to operate ,economical and so versatile you could easily bolt implements onto the chassis rails .We owned three ,some were over sixty years old and they still earned their keep .The Farmalls were revolutionary and left all the other makes behind .

I was around 13 years old when my father bought an old M Tractor back in 1974 we needed more power for his five acre truck patch growing veggies. We found it sitting in the woods just off a country road the owner let us have it for $100 because it had been sitting for years and he didn't think it would ever run again. I helped my dad take it all apart and in about six months together we restored it. I cut mt teeth on that tractor.. Dad sold it in 1983 and I'm still heart broken. Great video.

I got a 1949 M. Lot of people dont know they put different engines and transmissions in them.. one is alot heavier than the other (physically and built) one has a ~3.5 inch piston and some has ~4 inch piston.. mine has the 4 inch.. how I found out is when I rebuilt the engine.. other difference is the transmission, if shifter lever is strait then it is the light version, if it has 2 or 3 bends in shifter, it is heavy one. Another way to tell difference is bearings in front wheels.. 2 different sizes.. tractor looks same at a distance but stand beside them is day and night difference.. mine still has serial plate on it stating it is a IH farmall M. And everything has matching serials so I know parts wasn't swaped. Friend of mine also has a m.. his is smaller everywhere. Which is weird. His has strait shifter which look at transmission is much smaller (about size of the h trans) then engine is same with but smaller from front to back.. one in video I got small glimpse of shifter and saw it is the strait one.. he is got the light M. Find a farmall h and compare them and u will see what I mean.. and to definitely confirm what I am saying, find a m with bent shifter and compare them.. huge difference!!

As a kid on a NZ dairy farm I drove a Farmall A. It was designed to run on kerosene and had an extra small tank you filled with petrol to start. It's ignition was a magneto, and could be hard to start when it got warm. It had a mid mounted mower which was designed so the sickle bar would operate at any angle including vertically. A single furrow plow could be mounted underneath the tractor by revering the draw bare, and the furrow depth was adjusted by raising and lowering the draw bar leading edge by a bar with a series of holes off a pin bolted just after the clutch hosing . The lift ran off the exhaust to a pneumatic ram. It was great for ploughing. You could run full throttle to the faring end, pull back the exhaust operated lift that semi choked the engine , turn drop the plough in and you were off like a rocket. Unfortunately my father sold it and three speed six cylinder diesel Fordson with a right foot clutch when I was away at college. That Fordson sure built up my right leg and arm muscles I have never seen those tractors since. Ibelieve that the Fordson PerkinsHi motor was put in a boat. I doubt that was the fate of the Farmall. And I would love to see a similar model displayed some place

The Farmall tricycle style front end with one or two front tires close together, could go down between a pair of 40 inch rows of corn, soybeans or other row crops. Few tractors had three point hitches, but rather they used mounted equipment such as 2 or 4 row cultivators, which had shovels on frames that were close to the row and mounted on the side of the tractor, and then rear shovels that cleaned up the center between the rows. Herbicide was rarely used to control weeds, cultivators removed the weeds, until the crop was too tall to drive over. You will notice how much clearance this "M" had under the rear axles. 1 or 2 row corn pickers were also mounted on the tractor, and had a conveyor that went back to fill a wagon being towed, with ear corn. The operator could easily see the crop as it was being worked, and movement of the steering wheel would easily keep the equipment centered on the row.

I bought my 1950 M to hobby farm 30+ years ago. It has a cobbled together 3 point homemade hitch. This was my regular use tractor until I purchased an 806 diesel. I attended a funeral a few years ago and on the story board was a photo of my tractor and my deceased friend as the proud owner. No one in the family knew anything about the tractor, but I was really glad to know that my friend Chester had owned it at one time.

Knife Craze 2.0 Early models had the 'tricycle' narrow front ends for what was called 'row crops'. Also, easier to turn sharper at the ends of rows for planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops. Wider front ends were referred to as 'standard', and usually were on larger tractors.

Row crop, the narrow front fit between two rows and the back tires fit over the rows, usually two plant rows under the tractor while working. Many years back, I was fortunate enough to gather up all the parts and restore an old allis chalmers row crop. It had been taken apart and abandoned. I was lucky to find all of it. Rebuilt the motor, repaired everything needed and it got a complete paint job in original orange. It was a four cylinder gas motor. Turned out very nice. I was working for a small JD dealer in Mississippi, they sold the tractor and the new owner put it right to work. Thats the last I ever saw of it, course that was about 41 years ago. I've restored several tractors over the years and enjoyed everyone of the projects. One man brought me a ford 2000 gas and told me it was his dad's who had passed and he wanted it to look like it did the day his dad bought it, I was proud the day I delivered it back to him, we each drank a beer in a toast to his father, that has a special memory for me.
