I have made an edit to this video from when it first went live as I didn't like the tone I took at the end. I got a little heated but that's only because I'm passionate about this platform. Coppa has destroyed my KZfaq Kids toy channel WD Toys. Revenue is down more than 50% from Last Year. This is my full time job and I support my 6 kids ages 3-12 with my channel. Now I don't know how I am going to pay my bills.

That’s not it. The thing is that KZfaq stated on multiple occasions that kids under 13 use the original KZfaq. The FTC used this as evidence in their case. With it being confirmed that kids use normal KZfaq, hell has broke loose.

One of the things that our kids caught was on KZfaq Kids and it was a Thomas the Tank Engine toy opening video where the guy said "let's get this motherf@#*&r opened". That might be only one example, but to us, it was one where KZfaq's "infallible" algorithm got it wrong and why we need more human oversight. I know it's a massive undertaking, but you can't throw creators under the bus for Google's lack of meaningful effort to employ more individuals to sift through content. I mean, that would probably be cheaper than the $170m paid in fines.

Advice: If you have kids, or want to have kids in the future, wait until they’re around 12 or 13 to let them watch KZfaq. My younger sister is 6, and she plays Roblox and watches KZfaq. She learned language that was either rude, inappropriate, etc. I recommend to always supervise what your kid(s) watch.

Coppa was even enacted before social media came about, back in 1998. It was updated to a degree though in 2013.

There's also the fact that how YT managed this situation has, in a way caused another problem. Because of this huge grey area between what's made or kids and what isn't, there are some things on YT that are set as for kids that are clearly not made for children. For example, the series marathon of Clone High and the episodes of Delta State are marked as for kids, when in reality they are considered as more adult, but YT is okay with this. The thing that really gets me is that YT only complains about things that are not set "for kids" and say they should be set "for kids," and never vice versa. They seem to care more about what the FTC and COPPA would do to them if they don't comply to this rather than caring about managing what kids should and shouldn't be allowed to watch. And putting the responsibility of setting what is for kids and what isn't in the hands of the creators without clearly defined parameters, making this huge grey area, is what caused this whole mess. It wasn't even COPPA or the FTC that caused this problem, it was YT's response to complying with them and how they handled this situation, and they did it the wrong way.

I agree with NeptuneGrace. KZfaq Kids is already there, as well as restricted mode. If adults did not want children watching dirty or inappropriate things, they can enable restricted mode, or even use KZfaq Kids, which is completely free.

COPPA has been one of the worst updates updates KZfaq has rolled out. KZfaq has an app specifically dedicated for kids, but doesn't bother to allow Kids-only creators to move them to that channel. It's also stupid we're not able to comment on certain videos (I tried to comment on a trailer for the new Super Mario Bros. Movie, but nope. Just because Susan Whatshername is gone as CEO, doesn't mean things are getting better. I wish for positive changes to this site, even if it doesn't come sooner or later. Even Family-Friendly KZfaqrs are at risk of getting the edge of the sword with this new rule. It's awful.

I can understand notifications because KZfaq needs your data to send you notifications. One thing that terrifies me about COPPA is How KZfaq denied having a mixed option. @Telcrem I'm no lawyer (actually, I have no job), but since COPPA is mainly about advertising, and you are under 1,000 subs (meaning your channel can't be monitized), you should be safe as long as you have no Copyright claims on any of your videos. If you do, you should probably set those to kid friendly just to be safe. But that is just my guess.
