a property of sqrts is that you can multiply them. so sqrt(2) x sqrt(3) = sqrt(6). here they divided the 28 inside the root by 4, so it says sqrt(4)sqrt(7). and sqrt(4) happens to be the square of 2. thus: 2sqrt(7)

math for me clicked when the goalpost changed. In school, we need to find the roots of f(x) which is just an excuse for making us do tedious calculations. In college, this is just a step (very important one, but just a step) to achieving a much greater goal, and achieving this goal recquires technique, experience, algorithms and a lot of thinking, of course.This is what math is about, this is why we learn to calculate, to do it easily when the real challenge becomes thinking and breaking thru

@totallynotpaul6211

Agreed. Also, it's rather improper to use "u" as a random variable, especially when you're involving integration, because you should reserve u for u-substitution.
@gant-arro
@gant-arro 3 ай бұрын
no. Obviously context matters. u can be used to represent units, or in this case units squared. In this problem, u-sub was not used so there is no confusion around what u means. Even if the problem did use u-sub, it would still be correct to use u^2, though for clarity it would be best to have u for u-sub in italics and u for units in default text. That was not necessary for this case, though.
