Great and emotional as i can tell . I snapp up every old Paint box i can Found two like that ,one even with 3 slots for wett boards .Yea, its allways a tripp along sombody's road of Artisticriy ,en general one can kind of see how well that Painter was advanced in ther Art. Thank you for scharing!

I really loved this video! I was at a junk shop and I bought a Windsor Newton oil paint box full of paint in similar condition to yours. The info said it was from a Canadian woman who came to Australia with her paintbox in 1919! I contacted Windsor Newton. They only have records back to 1935. Couldn’t quite find the right one. I wish I could share a picture with you..

Carl, I get your point, but all I'd say is I suggest you don't ever go to a general auction in the UK! 600 odd lots, many from 'house clearances' and probably around 300 items will have back stories. I have a personal naval letter from 1725, family Bible 1760, with Victorian children's drawings in the back...right through to someone's much loved camera equipment from the 1970's. All bought for just a few bucks and all belonging to people just like us at the time. Our time is better spent just doing, rather than thinking and dwelling because, yeah, history teaches us not only about where we came from, but also where we're going. Meantime, just enjoy the ride.

Beautiful story! Today I went to an antique furniture place just around the corner from where I live and surprisingly found an exact vintage devoe and raynolds paint box. I did not know what it was until the owner of the shop told me that it was possibly made in the 1930s or 1940s but before WW2. The leather handle is missing and i have a wooden paint pallet that comes with it. I absolutely love my box and can't wait to add paint and woodburn tools inside it. I paint and do woodburning. I love antiques as well. Happy to have come across your video and a beautiful story behind it.

So touching, especially now during the Covid pandemic the meaning of life and the memories of those passed impact us profusely.

I found a pochade box at an antique store that still had the wooden palette in it with dried oil paint on it. The palette itself is a work of art. The box is in my studio and filled with my vintage collection of charcoal, one which is branded Devoe. I also found another pochade box at an estate sale this past summer. It had Sargent soft pastels in it and of course I bought it. It now stores my gesso jars, spray fixatives and other art supplies. I love both my boxes.m

Thank you so much for sharing. My husband came home with a beautiful easel a few years ago, someone was throwing it away and he snatched it up for me. It's beautiful, wood framed and I have recently taken up painting. I'd like to say the easel inspired me. Today I started to do some research on this company - Devoe & Raynolds Co. Inc. - I never thought I would stumble upon your video. I'm feeling very full circle right now as I married a Thomas from Colorado and wonder if there is any family relation... but Thomas is a pretty common name, lol. Regardless, your video really entertained me and I thank you for sharing!

I just found this video. I enjoyed the story very much. I can offer some further info on a small part of your presentation. Gary and Kathwren Jenkins are still active although they have slowed down some due to health reasons. They were part of the whole Bob Ross group of TV painters but rather than landscapes the did Florals and birds mainly. They were part of the group until Bob's business partner and villain of the tale, Annette Kowalski, decided to take what she learned from the Jenkins' and start her own line of floral painting videos, paints, and books. She convinced Martin F. Weber company to drop the Jenkins' in favor of her stuff creating a lot of hardship for them. They have since gotten away, somewhat, from the formulaic style of the TV painters of that era. They still teach it, but their personal work has taken on a much more 'fine art' style over the decades. Kathwren has a very laid back presentation while Gary is a bit like a frenetic leprechaun in a straw cowboy hat. Both lovely people.

I have gotten some vintage tubes and used the V shape common nutcracker on the lids to gently open them. I heated the lids a bit with a hair dryer if necessary. I love looking for vintage painting boxes.

I wouldn’t give up on those paint tubes if I were you. I did a video on that subject. (How to open oil paint tubes the easiest way.). It hasn’t failed me yet and I’d hate to see those tubes sit idle any longer.
