This song and Kelly's performance speaks to the souls of far too many of us. Absolutely beautiful.

How can you not cry with this one? As sad as the story is, it is also an uplifting song about breaking the cycle.

Shawn and Mel, this is my story! My biological father walked out on me when I was about 3 1/2 years old. He never had anything to do with me. It was like I never existed. Kelly said things that I couldn’t say or describe. When she said “I was worthless,” That’s exactly how I felt. I’m 57 years old and I still feel that way. I’ve seen this particular video numerous times, and each time I still cry.

This is a heart breaker. Her dad skipped out when she was young & wanted no part of her until she got famous. At the time of this performance show as happily married & thought he loved her & would be good for her & he would stay. Sadly, she is now divorced & so that makes this even more heart breaking. This is her story.

I have always LOVED this performance and song for so long. However to hear her write a song about her father abandoning her, asking for money and leaving her heartbroken. To write a song about your husband who was different to then turn out to do the SAME EXACT THING! 🤦🏻‍♂️ Please react to her new edited version she performed at her last Vegas residency. Kelly Clarkson left it ALL on the stage! She is the epitome of a professional entertainer! And a beautiful soul! From what I’ve heard & read over the years this song was based off her experience with her father as a child.

This is one of the best songs and performances ever. The emotion is palpable. I watched this while my Dad was dying from cancer. I just remember sobbing while watching. American Idol was the show we watched as a family for years. I blessed with a good dad but knowing so many are not is devastating.

Kelly was almost 9 months pregnant here. The emotion!!!! Dear sweet Mel- Kelly had to divorce her husband because he was swindling her financially. They both live in the same area so the kids can see both parents regularly. But still. 😢

Reba McEntire loved it so much she did a video of both of them singing"Because of you" and honestly that video shows more about what the song is talking about. But everyone loves both of them the same so I heard. It's the same song but put together in the video perspective the Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire shows more in the video and more intense but both are awesome but kelly wrote the song and sang it first alone . True story about her own father. She talked about it on a talk show. He never came back until she got famous then he wanted to be in her life. That's why it's so hard for her to get through it😥😥

So, uh, yeah, this is my story too. Dad left when I was six. Got one phone call at 8, the next time I heard from him was when I was 23. The conversation went like this: Dad: "Hey, it's so great to hear your voice. When are you coming to see me?" Me: "When I'm invited." Dad: "Oh, you know, you always have an open invitation to come out here." Me: "No, actually, I didn't know that." Dad: "Look, I know I haven't been a very good father to you, but at least we could be friends." Me: "My friends treat me better than that." Dad: "So, is your brother home?" And that was the last conversation I ever had with him.

I remember her on Idol.. and taking my teen daughter and her freinds to the WI state fair to see her just after the show.. sitting and holding the spot in line... LOL.. what mothers do.. I didn't even go in, tickets were sold out and I preferred to sit and eat a cream puff.

This song has me in tears every time even though I was in the opposite situation as a child and never had a day that I did`nt pray that my abusive father would get up and leave. He never did and I left the second I was old enough, some people just shouldn`t be allowed to have children.

I know this is about the Kelly being abandoned and her not doing the same to her daughter as well as her husband restoring her faith that men CAN be great fathers and husband's. I'm a man now but I relate to it due to my father abandoned me when I was 3 and only contacted me when he thought I might play in the NFL but lost interest once he found out I wouldn't pursue it due to meeting my now wife who did put me back together with my broken and tough past. I try to be the father I know can exist and that I would have loved to have had. Even though men are typically expected to not show emotions, when listening to this song I damn near ugly cry. It's embarrassing tbh but the scars are just too deep so I can relate in my own way. Great reaction!

Okay I just stopped crying and then Mel you thanked Shawn for helping put your pieces back together I BROKE. This is my first time ever seeing one of your videos and you guys reacted incredibly to Kelly's performance. I think this performance is one of the most emotional in HISTORY out of any singer. So many people can relate to the lyrics, and then you feel the emotions from Kelly, it just breaks your soul. And I'm in my 30s still living with both parents, so I can't even IMAGINE the turmoil and pain ya'll must have felt growing up relating to the lyrics so much.

She writes a lot about her relationship with her absent father, you should react to "Because of You" next.

I thankfully have no cycle of abandonment or abuse in my family, but my daughter just turned 7 and I listened to this performance a lot when she was 6 and I was utterly flabbergasted that someone would willingly leave their precious girl like that. If I was separated from her I would be in literal agony. This performance makes me need tissues literally every time
